The 2023 NFL preseason is almost upon us, so it’s time to batten the hatches and get ready to weather the regular season storm. There are still trades to be made and some rookie drafts to be completed, but it’s not long before our trade fever becomes a start, sit and waivers fervor. Are your teams prepared to enter battle? This week on Dynasty Diehards, Matt Chester and I talked about some critical situations happening around the league right to get you ready to rumble.

News We HAVE To Talk About | NFL Preseason Edition

Saquon Gets Paid (Kind Of)

It wasn’t the most lucrative deal for the talented yet oft-injured RB in New York – he’ll play the 2023 season for $11 million. However,  it’ll keep Saquon Barkley in blue and red for another season. You have to imagine Brian Daboll, Daniel Jones and company couldn’t be happier to have him back.

Leavin’ On A Jet Plane

And we have no idea when Josh Jacobs will be back again. The 2023 points per reception (PPR) RB1 was heard saying he wasn’t planning to return to Emerald City anytime soon. Clearly, the two sides couldn’t be farther apart in contract negotiations, and it seems talks have stalled. Could this be the last we see of Jacobs until 2023?

Justin Herbert Gets The Bag

The Los Angeles Chargers quarterback, Justin Herbert, has committed to his team for the long term with a massive 5-year, $265 million contract extension. This deal solidifies Herbert’s position with the team until 2029, and an astonishing $219 million is guaranteed. Reports from training camp have been that Herbert looks fresh and has been electric. Will he finally live up to expectations with a fully healthy 2023 campaign?

The Bears Are “Kmetted”

Chicago Bears tight end Cole Kmet has landed a surprising contract extension, locking him in with the team for the next four years and earning him an impressive $50 million. While he was a huge part of the Bears’ offense in the second half of last season, there wasn’t much competition. This offseason, the team brought in talented WR D.J. Moore and TE Robert Tonyan, adding more weapons for QB Justin Fields. Clearly, Chicago still believes Kmet will be an integral part of their passing and rushing attacks.

Lions Biting Knee Caps

The hype train for the Detroit Lions has gained a lot of steam in the last few months. After a stellar end to the 2022 season, and despite missing the playoffs, there’s a lot of reason to believe this team could compete for the NFC North crown. Jared Goff, Aiden Hutchinson and Dan Campbell all cautioned against the higher expectations earlier this week. Where do you land on this electric Lions team?
