The fantasy season is now officially over.  How many titles did you win out there?  For me, I made the playoffs in every head-to-head league and came away with one title and a 1st place finish in a best ball league.  Not too bad but I can (and will) do better next year.

If you’re a fantasy football degenerate like me, the fantasy football season doesn’t end in Week 17.  We keep the fire burning with playoff leagues, DFS and prop betting throughout the NFL playoffs.  There’s something for everyone.  For today though, we’re going to review the season that was and start planning for our next drafts.

That’s right, the Razzball NFL writing team will be shifting gears to look back at what we saw, with a sharp eye on what it means moving forward. In fact, Sky (@SkyGuasco) and I even drafted the first two rounds in a “Way Way Way Too Early 2025 Mock Draft” Tuesday night.  It was a lot of fun and got me excited for the 2025 fantasy season.  If you missed it, you can listen HERE

So without further ado…

NOTE: Positional Finish indicates the player’s fantasy finish at the position based on 6 point TDs and 1 point per 20 yards passing.. The average draft position (ADP) that is inside the () is the positional ADP the player was drafted based on the Razzball 2024 Fantasy Football ADP sheet.

Quarterback MVPs

  • Player: Baker Mayfield
  • Team: Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  • Positional Finish (ADP): QB 3 (QB 22)

Baker Mayfield posted a top 12 fantasy QB in 2023.  So, you’d think that would translate to a “starting” fantasy gig in 2024, right?  WRONG!  Fantasy GMs roundly rejected the notion and made him the QB 22 in 2024 drafts.  Despite the snub, those who recognized the error early enough were rewarded with a top 3 season.  Only Joe Burrow and Jared Goff threw for more yards and only Joe Burrow threw for more TDs than Baker (4,500 and 41, respectively). By the way, here are some of the names that were drafted ahead of Baker: Kirk Cousins (QB 18), Aaron Rodgers (QB 19), and Deshaun Watson (QB 21).  Oh, and that doesn’t count the two sophomore “phenoms” in C.J. Stroud (QB 5) and Anthony Richardson (QB 6).  To all my fantasy friends out there…Please don’t make the same mistake next season!

  • Player: Sam Darnold
  • Team: Minnesota Vikings
  • Positional Finish (ADP): QB 7 (QB 29)

For a minute, let’s forget about the lackluster way the season ended for Sam Darnold and the Vikings.  The body of work Darnold put down for fantasy owners in Weeks 1-17 probably put money in pockets, averaging 260 yards and 2+ TDs per game.  Based on FantasyPros scoring, that translated to a near 20 fantasy point average per week.  What other QBs were in that same scoring neighborhood, you ask?  How about Jared Goff (20.3) and Jalen Hurts (21.3).  Good company!  He’ll likely be donning a new uniform next season and will lag in drafts once again.  I doubt I’ll be targeting him as QB 1 for any of my fantasy teams, but I’ll certainly sprinkle him in as a later round backup – especially in Best Ball and SuperFlex leagues.

  • Player: Bo Nix
  • Team: Denver Broncos
  • Positional Finish (ADP): QB 8 (QB 25)

This starts the rookie QB run.  Speaking of running, that’s the common theme for the two rookie QB MVPs.  Bo Nix was handed the keys to the Broncos offense in training camp.  Most of us in the fantasy world, myself included, were excited but guarded.  Those cautions were justified early on after a couple rough outings, particularly in Week 4 at the Jets where he threw for 60 yards total.  Those of us with patience, or perhaps some foresight, were rewarded with a string of nice outings once in the middle weeks of the season.  By the time the Broncos returned from their week 14 bye week, Nix had become a “must start” in most leagues.  He ended the season with a respectable 12th place ranking in passing yards and 6th in passing TDs.  Additionally, he finished as the 8th ranked QB in rushing yards and chipped in 4 rushing TDs to boot.  The big question will be: Will he suffer from the same sophomore slump we saw with C.J. Stroud and Anthony Richardson this year, or will he continue to grow and become a fantasy stud for years to come?

  • Player: Jayden Daniels
  • Team: Washington Commanders
  • Positional Finish (ADP): QB 5 (QB 12)

The likely Rookie of the Year makes our QB MVP list as well.  Jayden Daniels announced his presence to the fantasy community in Week 1 with 88 yards rushing and a pair of TDs.  After Week 3, he showed signs of being an all-around fantasy QB after 250+ and 2 TDs through the air.  There were some peaks and valleys along the way but by mid-season, Daniels was considered an every-week starter for those lucky enough to have drafted him. He finished his rookie campaign as a top 5 fantasy scorer, including #2 in QB rushing and #9 in total TDs.  Expect to pay a premium draft cost for Mr. Daniel’s services next season.

  • Player: Jared Goff
  • Team: Detroit Lions
  • Positional Finish (ADP): QB 6 (QB 15)

Our final QB MVP produced the second-most passing yards, the fourth-most passing TDs, and sixth-most QB fantasy points, yet was rarely drafted as a fantasy starter.  Jared Goff not only led the Lions to the NFC #1 seed but also led many of our fantasy teams to Championships.  The most important take-away with Goff though…he went a long way to shed his “road Goff” moniker.  After logging road games of 315 YDs and 3 TDs, 280 YDs and 2 TDs, 336 YDs and 3 TDs, and 303 YDs and 3 TDs we can probably peal that label off his jersey.  The 30-year-old QB appears to be solidly in his prime.  His favorite weapons are  rejoining him again next year, so there’s little reason to think he won’t remain a viable fantasy QB moving forward.

Honorable Mention:

  • Geno Smith – Positional Finish (ADP): QB 15 (QB 23)
  • Bryce Young – Positional Finish (ADP): QB 20 (QB 27)
  • Drake Maye – Positional Finish (ADP): QB 23 (QB 31)
