It was a tough week for the NFL as injuries plagued several teams. The effects of the injuries from Week 5 were felt in Week 6, and it only got worse for fantasy teams as the games went on. Just brutal. Let’s take a look at some of the Week 6 takeaways and what we can expect in Week 7…

Panthers at Dolphins
With fantasy newcomer De’Von Achane out for four weeks, Raheem Mostert stepped up by scoring the most points for RBs in Week 6 with 17 carries for 115 yards with two rushing scores and added three receptions for 17 yards and one TD. Tua Tagovailoa didn’t miss a beat with the most QB points scored with 21/32 for 262 passing yards and three TDs. Tyreek Hill was the highest-scoring WR of the week with an incredible 6 catches for 163 receiving yards and one passing TD off 10 targets. Jaylen Waddle added seven receptions for 51 yards and a score off nine targets. The Phins are a fantasy sight to behold if you drafted any shares.
It’s more than a Thielen! Adam Thielen saw 13 targets, finishing with 11 receptions for 115 yards and one TD. Pretty sure the Vikings are missing his talents. Chuba Hubbard filled in for Miles Sanders with 19 carries for 88 rushing yards and one TD. Bryce Young threw for 217 yards and a score despite going against a Miami defense that allows the seventh-most fantasy points to QBs.
Takeaway:
- We got ourselves a battle of the NFL’s offensive juggernauts, with Miami traveling to Philadelphia for Sunday Night Football. The Eagles allow the sixth most points to QBs and fifth most against WRs. Vegas has the over/under set at 52.5! Give me the over and start all Dolphins and Eagles.
Saints at Texans
Houston’s defense made the necessary stops to outlast the Saints. Dalton Shultz caught his third consecutive TD of the season, finishing with four catches for 61 yards off a team-high seven targets. Nico Collins added 80 yards on four receptions. Devin Singletary led Houston with 58 rushing yards off 12 carries, while starter Dameon Pierce rushed 13 times for 34 yards.
Derek Carr threw for a Week 6-high 353 yards and one touchdown. Chris Olave paced New Orleans with seven grabs for 96 yards off 10 targets. Rashid Shaheed caught two passes for 85 yards and the lone TD for the Saints.
Takeaway:
- Houston, we have a problem with this RB room if we have a committee. Pierce was trending down over the past few weeks, but this could now be Singletary’s job. We will have two weeks to wait to see which RB will lead this backfield against the Panthers.
- The Saints have a short week ahead at home against the Jaguars, who have allowed the second-most passing yards and 10th-most fantasy points per game to opposing QBs this year. The Jags allow the fourth-fewest fantasy points to RBs this season. Carr and company will be throwing a ton in this game, so you know what to do.
Lions at Buccaneers Â
Jared Goff, to the surprise of many, passed for a Week 6-high and his season-high 353 passing yards and two TDs. In Sunday’s theme, David Montgomery sustained a rib injury and did not return. He’ll require additional testing this week. Yikes. The Lions were already without Jahmyr Gibbs in this one. Amon-Ra St Brown put the Lions on his back with 12 catches for 124 yards and one TD off a season-high 15 targets. Sam LaPorta registered 11 targets, finishing with four catches for 36 yards. Jameson Williams caught a 45-yard TD, giving Detroit a glimpse of what he can add to this already potent offense.
Takeaway: Â
- The Lions will travel to Baltimore, who allow the second-fewest points to QBs and the third-fewest to WRs on a per-game basis. If the Lions’ backfield is all injured, the Lions could be in trouble, and I am not sure if I want to find out. St. Brown and LaPorta are must-starts, but temper expectations.Â
- In the Creamsicle jerseys, this Bucs team looked and played like the Bucs who wore those magnificent jerseys in the past. Tampa Bay will face a divisional foe in the Falcons, who allowed Sam Howell to throw three TDs in Week 6. Baker Mayfield and his WR duo should bounce back.
49ers at Browns
Christian McCaffrey sustained an oblique injury and did not return. Jordan Mason and Elijah Mitchell are next up for the Niners. Mason tallied five carries for 27 yards and a rushing TD, while Mitchell rushed two times for negative two yards. Deebo Samuel also left Sunday’s contest with a shoulder injury. Currently, the injury is not deemed to be serious. However, Brandon Aiyuk has taken over as the WR1 in San Fran. Aiyuk posted four catches for 76 yards off 10 targets.
The Browns showed up despite Deshaun Watson being out for his second consecutive game. Jerome Ford had a big fourth quarter rushing the ball, finishing with 17 carries for 84 yards, and added two catches. Kareem Hunt recorded 12 carries for 47 yards and a rushing TD while adding three receptions for 24 yards. No matter who is under center, Amari Cooper saw eight targets and caught four passes for 108 yards.
Takeaway:
- San Fran will travel to Minnesota on Monday Night Football, who allow the third-most receiving yards and sixth-most fantasy points to WRs this season. Mason should be the priority waiver add for this week. There are lots of what-ifs because of injuries, but if CMC misses time and if Samuel can play, I can envision Samuel seeing double-digit touches alongside Aiyuk.
- On the road to Naptown, Cleveland will face an improved Colts defense that only allowed 148 passing yards and 85 rushing yards to the Jags potent offense but gave up four TDs (two passing and two rushing). If Watson returns, the Browns offense could smash in this one. A sneaky play could be Elijah Moore if he can hit the home run deep ball.
Eagles at Jets
The Jets upended the Eagles with Breece Hall’s eight-yard rushing TD late in the fourth quarter. Hall finished with 12 carries for 39 yards adding four catches for 54 yards. Garrett Wilson led Jets WRs with 12 targets and eight receptions for 90 yards. Â
Jalen Hurts threw an unprecedented three interceptions against the Jets, which marks only the second time in his career since 11/28/2021 vs. NY Giants. Hurts passed for 280 yards with one TD and rushed for 47 yards, adding one score on the ground. A.J. Brown caught seven balls for 131 yards off nine targets. Brown has four consecutive games over 100 receiving yards. Devonta Smith saw 11 targets, finishing with five grabs and 44 yards. D’Andre Swift led the Philly backfield with 10 carries and only 18 yards but supplied eight receptions for 40 yards and one TD. Â
Takeaway:
- Gang Green will return after a Week 7 bye facing their city rival Giants. If Zach Wilson can grow more chemistry with Wilson, the Jets offense may not be as inept as we once thought after Aaron Rodgers went down.
- To right their wrongs, Philadelphia will face a soft Miami defense. This game will have points all over the board. The Phins allow the seventh most points to QBs and are middle of the pack against RBs and WRs. As mentioned earlier, start all your Eagles and Dolphins shares, and don’t look back!
Notables:
- Trevor Lawrence was uninspiring with 181 passing yards and two TDs against the Colts, who allow the 10th-most points to QBs. He also appeared to hurt his knee in late in the fourth quarter, which should be monitored as the Jags face the Saints on Thursday Night Football. The Saints have allowed the sixth-fewest passing yards to QBs this season, and if Lawrence is out, I’d lower expectations for Jaguars skill position players on a short week on the road. Â
- Justin Fields left his game due to injuring his throwing hand against the Vikings. Chicago hosts the Raiders next week and were without Kahlil Herbert and Roschon Johnson. The Bears are a mess and easily a team to stay away from.
- Ryan Tannehill suffered a right ankle injury and was seen on crutches postgame. Derrick Henry was solid rushing for 97 yards and a TD, but if Malik Willis is under center, I would lower all Titans for Week 8 rankings. Â
- The Justin Jefferson-less Vikings amassed only 181 passing yards despite facing the Bears, who have allowed the second most passing yards this season. T.J. Hockenson had team-highs of eight targets for six receptions and 50 yards. It doesn’t get easier as the Niners visit Minnesota on Monday Night Football. The Niners allow the third-fewest to QBs and the eighth-fewest to TEs.
- Zay Flowers scored his first NFL touchdown in London and posted six catches for 50 yards off eight targets.
- Jimmy Garoppolo was forced out of his game with a back injury. Josh Jacobs was given 25 carries and rushed for 77 yards. If Jimmy G is out next week, expect a heavy dosage of Jacobs as the Raiders face the fifth-friendliest defense to RBs in the Chicago Bears. Â
- The Falcons passing game was led by Drake London, who caught nine out of 12 targets for 125 yards. Kyle Pitts caught his first TD of the season. Desmond Ridder has back-to-back games over 300 passing yards. Falcons will face Tampa Bay, who allowed Goff to pass over 300 yards.
- Cooper Kupp saw his first TD of the season and added seven grabs for 148 yards off nine targets in a friendly matchup. Puka Nacua saw seven targets but finished with four catches for 26 yards. Perhaps the Puka window has closed, or is he a good buy-low candidate?
- Kyren Williams had the highest rushing total off the week with 156 yards and a TD but suffered an ankle late in the game. Why can’t we have nice things?
- Saquan Barkley returned from a three-game absence and was heavily involved with 28 touches for 98 scrimmage yards.
Bye Week Update
- Week 6 Bye Week teams: Packers are in Denver, who allow the most points to RBs. Should Aaron Jones be healthy, he should be in line for a top-five RB finish in Week 7. Steelers are on the road in Hollywood to face the LA Rams. Rams allow the fourth-fewest points to WRs and tenth-fewest to RBs. Pittsburgh should get Diontae Johnson back in this one.Â
- Week 7 byes include the Carolina Panthers, Cincinnati Bengals, Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans, New York Jets, and Tennessee Titans. Adjust your lineup accordingly.
