Back for Week 9 waivers. The best way to wrap up the weekend occurred at the end of the afternoon game where the first and second overall draft picks from the 2024 draft went head-to-head. The Bears, who looked atrocious for about 3.5 quarters managed to take the lead with under a minute to go. Then it happened. Some smart-mouthed Chicago DB started trolling the Washington crowd instead of boxing out Noah Brown. The Bears are who we thought they were, the clowns of the league. Enjoy the moral victory Chi-Town! Hahaha, I am still on Cloud 9 over how that game ended. As my guy Sky Guasco and I told you all off-season, Caleb Williams is not as good as the hype. Jayden Daniels is much better. That was all proven (again) on Sunday! A quick recap to some other big stories from Week 8 goes like this: Jordan Love injured his groin and Packers nation almost passed out. News out of Green Bay is the star QB avoided a significant, long-term injury. Love is now considered day-to-day, so keep an eye on his status as we approach the Week 9 matchup against the Lions. Jameis Winston did Jameis Winston things and I am here for all of it! Though he did not deliver the “Eat The Dub” pre-game speech will all need in our life, he did pay his respects out to Eminem in an all-over-the-place diatribe. I do not care because I love Jameis, and it was all fun.
What now? Well, we add up the injuries, again. During Week 8 we lost Christian Kirk (clavicle – done for the year), Stefon Diggs (knee – could end his season), Jordan Mason (re-injury; CMC szn [maybe] after the bye), Deebo (post-pneumonia, did not finish Week 8 because of rib injury), Jordan Love (see above), Brian Thomas, Jr. (chest – TBD), Drake Maye (concussion – maybe misses 1-2 weeks),
An additional, small consideration for you, the reader, as you move through my weekly columns is to understand that a waiver article is not a mandate from me to add/drop players each week. Sometimes the best move is the one you do not make. I fully understand that waivers and trades are top of the fun list in fantasy football but remember winning trumps all other fun things in fantasy football. Take the following names as options, considerations for your squad versus must-add players. Only add players when it makes sense for you and your team(s).

WAIVERS:
ADD OF THE WEEK = Our guy Jameis Winston – 6% rostered did what I told you he would do. He will continue to throw with reckless abandon which is a good thing for your fantasy outlook. The LAC pose a tougher matchup than did the Ravens, but I think you can run Jameis out there especially in Super Flex leagues or as a bye week replacement.
QB: Russell Wilson – 22% rostered cooked the Jets on SNF, then had a nice game on Monday though the late fumble was almost costly for the Steelers. Russ looks good but remember his bye week is upon us.
Matthew Stafford – 40% rostered: Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua are back. Any questions?
Honorable Mention/Cheaper Options:
Bo Nix – 25% rostered (running is nice; passing adds to value)
Mason Rudolph – 1% rostered (game manager with Will Levis szn possibly over)
RB: Tyrone Tracy Jr. – 52% rostered is better than Devin Singletary, and the touches are starting to reflect what we already knew. It appears Brian Daboll might now know it. Keep an eye on concussion news as Tracy was pulled late in the game after hitting the back of his head. He is a must-add in all formats now.
Honorable Mention/Cheaper Options:
Isaac Guerendo – 8% rostered (bye then return of CMC is possible; has overtaken Mason)
Jaleel McLaughlin – 15% rostered (small amount of value; add in emergency only)
Sean Tucker – 11% rostered (good stash in deep leagues for high scoring offense)
WR: Cedric Tillman – 20% rostered went from 0% rostered to 20% almost overnight. Jameis tried to make the kid a star in his first real week of full action. Tillman, with Jameis under center, needs to be rostered and possibly started as a FLEX.
WR: Rashod Bateman – 45% rostered. I have never been a big fan of Bateman, and his Week 8 is the main reason. He just does not carry the consistency we need.
Honorable Mention/Cheaper Options:
Quentin Johnston – 14% rostered (LAC passing attempts have increased each week over the last four)
Elijah Moore – 3% rostered (prefer Tillman, but Moore holds some value in deep leagues)
Darius Slayton – 13% rostered (nothing more than a WR tease)
Jalen McMillan/Sterling Shepard – both under 3% rostered (will get more looks with Chris Godwin possibly done for the season (ankle) and Mike Evans to probably miss time (hamstring))
Jauan Jennings/Ricky Pearsall – 31%/14% rostered – (someone will need to step up for Brandon Aiyuk who appears done for the year (leg); I lean Jennings who missed Week 7-8)
TE: Cade Otton – 63% rostered needs to be added and started in ALL formats. Outside of Otton, the TE position is still anyone’s guess. I am OK adding names like Zach Ertz (solid floor), Noah Fant (solid floor), Hunter Henry (Maye > Brissett),and Ja’Tavion Sanders (appears to be taking TE1 role for CAR) – all under 30% rostered.
Remember, you do NOT have to make a move each week. You do not have to force trades. If you look at your roster and a hole does not immediately jump out to you, then maybe your team is good to go for Week 8. If you see a hole (injury, bye, underperformance), then start looking at options to make your team better.
