Even though I’m not one to pat myself on the back (actually, I am), Razzball has been on an upward curve, bringing some sort of conglomerate synergistic metamorphosis (as they say in the corporate world), providing you an ever-improving ranking accuracy year after year. How do we do it? No clue. It could be dark wizardry. It could be indigestion. It could even be your mother. But I have to admit, this year is going to be daunting, if only because the expectations we’ve placed on ourselves here at Razzball Football are at an all time high (just like my college years). Going from 31st overall to 22nd in Weekly Fantasy Football accuracy is one thing. But going from 22nd to the top 10 in the entire nation last season is quite another. And then on top of that, to finish third overall in our Draft Rankings last year… well, it’d be folly to try and say “Yes, we’re going to try even more, (more better if you believe in remedial English)”, but yeah, I’m going to say it… We’re going to do more better. (My English teacher just placed a bounty on me.) With that said, and my parentheses key broken, here are your 2017 Fantasy Football Running Back Dynasty Rankings

  1. Mike says:

Jay — 2 person keeper league (lose same round as drafted), 0.5 PPR

    Ajayi 8th
    AB – 1st
    Jordy – 2nd
    Shady – 3rd

I assume keep 1st two and as 4th pick, have the option of maybe getting shady back (however unlikely)?

    Thanks man

    • Jay

      Jay says:

@Mike: I’d go Ajayi and AB there. Good mix.

  2. Sava21887 says:

12 man ppr auction league 200$ budget

We do a one round snake off last years keeper values, I have the 3rd pick. Who would be your 1,2,3?

    Top available

    Julio 47$
    Michael Thomas 1$
    Deandre Hopkins 9$
    Gronk 36
    Alshon 14
    Reed 1

    My keepers

    Elliot 50$
    Watkins 21$
    Davonte Adams 3$

    • Jay

      Jay says:

@Sava21887: I’d do Thomas, Hopkins, and Reed for the straight value.

      • Sava21887 says:

@Jay: Thomas is definitely my no. 1 value there, but have a feeling I’m going to be stuck with Hopkins or Julio and I don’t want anything to do with Hou. Reed is a nice value, but isn’t exactly going to win leagues for you. after I get out of the snake draft the best Wr available will be someone like golden Tate or Edelman and last year both of them went for 33$. Wr prices get inflated for the remaining no. 2 or 3 wrs with upside. Last year I had so much depth, then Watkins, John brown and Eric decker pretty much were injured and useless all season long.

        • Jay

          Jay says:

@Sava21887: Yeah, I saw Thomas there and nearly fainted. And I agree on Reed, but the value on a top-5 TE compared to Gronk’s price, it is tempting. And that’s interested on the WR inflation, that would justify targeting Julio for sure.

  3. Brian says:

Doing fantasy football in a money league for the first time and figured I should start to take fantasy football as seriously as I do baseball with money at stake and all!

Was wondering if you noted any significant shifts in your rankings based on the league settings below.

I’ve joined a 14 team PPR league with a starting roster of 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 Flex, 1K, 1 DEF team, and 1 DEF player ($200 to spend at auction) with the following settings:

Passing Yards: 25 yards per point; 4 points at 300 yards
    Passing Touchdowns: 6 pts
    Interceptions: -2 pts

Rushing Yards:: 10 yards per point; 2 points at 100 yards; 2 points at 150 yards
    Rushing Touchdowns: 6

Receiving Yards: 10 yards per point; 2 points at 100 yards; 2 points at 150 yards
    Receiving Touchdowns: 6 pts

Return Yards: 25 yards per point; 2 points at 150 yards
    Return Touchdowns: 6 pts

    Fumbles: -1 pt
    Fumbles Lost: -2 pts

    Tackle Solo: 1 pt
    Tackle Assist: 0.5 pt
    Sack: 2 pts
    Interception: 3 pts
    Fumble Force: 1 pt
    Fumble Recovery: 3 pts
    Defensive Touchdown: 6 pts
    Safety: 3 pts
    Pass Defended: 1 pt
    Block Kick: 3 pts
    Tackles for Loss: 1 pt

In addition to wondering if you see any significant player valuation or positional value shifts, I was wondering if it made sense to spend pretty much all $200 at auction on only RBs and WRs and basically stream/value pick all other positions. If not, would love to hear what auction strategy you would ideally want to take in such a league.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    • Jay

      Jay says:

@Brian: Seems pretty standard from what I can tell. Your IDP points really benefit the big play, so that’s something you’ll have to keep in mind.

But your instinct here is pretty spot on. I would try to allocate some funds to your IDP spot, since there’s only one, but yeah, I think here you can stream the QB and TE and go wild on the RB and WRs…

      • Brian says:

Thanks so much for the insight!

        • Jay

          Jay says:

          @Brian: Any time!

  4. Kendrick llama says:

Was offered Tyreek Hill and Martavis for my BRandin Cooks. Keeper league (no limit). .5 PPR. Whatcha think?

    • Jay

      Jay says:

@Kendrick llama: In a no limit, I’d do it. I like spreading that potential out a little.

  5. Dom says:

Hey Jay! So my roster is below , got offered a trade was wondering if I should do it. Its a standard scoring league. I feel like I have no number 1 RB, but pretty good WRs, heres the offer:

I Give: WR Mike Evans and RB Spencer Ware

    I Get: RB Ezekiel Elliott

I could counter with another WR/RB duo but don’t know if he will do it.

    QB Aaron Rodgers, GB QB
RB Frank Gore, Ind RB Q
    RB Paul Perkins, NYG RB
    WR Mike Evans, TB WR
    WR Dez Bryant, Dal WR
    TE Jimmy Graham, Sea TE
    FLEX Demaryius Thomas, Den WR
    D/ST Jaguars D/ST D/ST
    K Dan Bailey, Dal K

    Bench Spencer Ware, KC RB
    Bench Brandon Marshall, NYG WR
    Bench Adrian Peterson, NO RB
    Bench Eric Decker, Ten WR
    Bench Randall Cobb, GB WR
    Bench Terrance West, Bal RB
    Bench Jamaal Charles, Den RB

    • Dom says:

@Dom: also if I were to do this trade who should my go to flex be, because right now I’m using Thomas, but he would become my WR 2 if I do trade.

    • Dom says:

@Dom: He added Marvin jones to the deal

      • Dom says:

@Dom: he gave me the choice of Devante Parker or Marvin jones plus Elliot for Evans and Ware

    • Jay

      Jay says:

@Dom: I’d hold a few more weeks and see how this suspension news shapes up.

  6. Dom says:

also for the roster above I drafted Mike Evans over AJ Green, was that a smart choice? I trust Winston more than Dalton.

    • Jay

      Jay says:

@Dom: yeah, I’m cool with that.

  7. Aubrey Plaza's Pillow says:

weird goings on, i’m about to likely get kamara at pick 2.12 (24th overall). howard was the 3rd rookie TE that’s gone, dan bailey was drafted ahead. m.williams fell to 20th overall. i missed doctson by 1 pick (i do need RB though so probably a blessing). and i’m probably about to be able to trade britt for gillislee or red dick, i told the owner i’d take either if he was able to draft gillislee.

      • Aubrey Plaza's Pillow says:

@Jay: i like this no F’ing around get the dynasty ranks out (3 in ONE day!). i’d guess the projections (stats) coming out somewhat after these? (this may have been mentioned, i’m on page 4 and the podcasts)

        • Jay

          Jay says:

@Aubrey Plaza’s Pillow: Yeah, just got tired of doing rankings and wanted to get the rest out. And yeah, Rudy is almost done with projections, very exciting stuff he’s doing!

  8. And Now the Jon Lovitz Dancers! says:

just joined a dynasty 12 teamer (previous owner was a deadbeat). rush yards worth more than receiving, half PPR. start less total RB’s to make up for the difference. 25 receiving yards per point, 10 for rushing. got 2nd overall in all rounds, cut enough people to draft 6 spots (including a D and there’s room for a kicker)
QB rodfather (team is only weak here really, and RB depth)
    RB (1) howard/ware (cutting roughshod)
    WR (2) beckham/m.thomas
TE (cut pitta, will draft one at 2.2)
    WR/TE nuke hopkins
    WR/RB (1)
    BN jeffrey/thielen/meredith (cutting boyd)
K none (just an awful one owned before anyway)
D (TWO awful ones owned, both cut)
so i’ll get fournette or mccaffrey at 1.2 then best TE at 2.2 probably (maybe QB instead), and am trying to trade one of jeffrey/thielen/meredith for a RB or maybe 2 of them for QB and RB.

    • And Now the Jon Lovitz Dancers! says:

@And Now the Jon Lovitz Dancers!: or maybe one of the better WR for a QB, that’s probably more realistic than getting a better than rodfather QB than merdith/thielen/jeffrey

    • Jay

      Jay says:

@And Now the Jon Lovitz Dancers!: I like this team in a dynasty format. Especially landing Fournette. As for the trade, yes, most definitely. You have some nice depth on your bench, I’d try to see what’s out there, shoring up your RB area is always wise. I’m actually okay depending on the Tyrod in this situation.

  9. Tony says:

    Hey Jay,
In my keeper league, we can keep as many as we want, but each keep forfeits a round, starting from 1. So keeping 5 players would mean I couldn’t draft till Round 6. Here’s my team:
    QB: Russ, Flacco
RB: David Johnson (KEEP!!), Eddie Lacy, Doug Martin, James White, Wendall Smallwood
WR: Sammy Watkins, Emmanuel Sanders, Devante Parker, Donte Moncrief, Mike Wallace, JEremy Maclin, Cole Beasley
    TE: Fleener

    • Jay

      Jay says:

@Tony: Hmm, you’re completely right on Johnson, haha. I’d probably release the rest honestly, I don’t see a second round talent there, maybe Watkins, but that has turned super iffy now. I’d probably want the flexibility to pick after Johnson here, risky, but it’s what I’d do.
