Were still in preseason mode so the main news we should be covering is who got hurt and who is seizing control of a position battle.  Let’s start with the boo boos, shall we?  Matthew Stafford injured his non-throwing hand against Oakland when he hit it on an opposing player’s helmet.  Though the injury is deemed not serious at this juncture, it’s a good reminder that Stafford has had issues staying healthy in the past.  While his 2011 season was an extremely successful one, it was also his first year in which he didn’t miss a game.  Yahoo currently has him ranked 16th and as the 5th quarterback overall to be taken.  Now I don’t disagree with them as he is still relatively young and his first couple of years in the league the Lions offensive line was a mess so I don’t want to call him injury prone just yet.  Heck, I have him higher in my own rankings so I might just be a hypocrite.  However, I do think it’s important we note Michael Vick going 50th overall because of his injury history.  I’m not saying Apples to Apples here – even though I really like that game – but ask any 2011 Vick owner how their season went and you might need to slap an R-rating on that conversation.  In other fantasy football news…

Kevin Smith – Had himself his own scare Saturday with what at first was rumored to be a high ankle sprain.  Thankfully, the results came back negative but lets all hope this is a motivator for him to lose some weight.  Or at the very least apologize for Jersey Girl.

Jonathan Stewart – Speaking of ankle sprains, Stewart did his own tweakage Sunday night versus the Jets but got the same negative results that Smith did, which is a positive.  What, you want me to put in a Jon Stewart joke here?  Is it that painfully obvious I want to?  Must…resist…

Doug Martin – Has all but locked up the starting gig in Tampa Bay over incumbent stone-handed LeGarrette Blount.  I still think Blount will get his touches to keep the rookie fresh, but overall Martin becomes more and more intriguing to me, especially for PPR leagues.  I know it took me a while but Martin’s finally teaching me how to Dougie.

Peyton Manning – Tossed two touchdowns while going 10/12 for 122 yards.  He’s just angry at me for ranking him  behind Ben Roethlisberger in my quarterback rankings.  Yes, I’m 100% certain I am his motivation for excelling this year.  PS, still not buying.  PPS, I really mean it.  PPPS, my wife calls me bullheaded.  Don’t know why.

Terrell Owens– According to TO’s twitter account, he is ‘no longer a Seahawk’.  I’m shocked.  That last sentence was supposed to be in sarcastic font but I didn’t have that option.  Now this entire TO blurb is in Comic Sans.

Russell Wilson – Keeping in the Northwest, the little quarterback that could is making QB controversy up in Seattle, going 13/19 for 185, two touchdown passes while rushing for 58 yards on 2 carries.  Now I think it’s a great story and I actually do like Wilson a little bit but are we really drafting him this year?  Yes, he won the starting job and yes he’s been a great story.  All this to say, it’s the preseason; let’s not get carried away.  Save that for the first week when Andrew Luck throws for 400 yards and we all declare him the next John Elway.

Tavaris Jackson – Going from the Northwest to the Northeast is Tavaris as Seattle sends him to play back up in Buffalo.  Truth be told, he may have a shot there to get a starting gig depending on what Ryan Fitzpatrick shows up this season.  The reason they traded for him is Vince Young has yet to show up for the Bills this preseason.  I don’t mean that in a Maurice Jones-Drew way.  I mean that in a ‘he’s been terrible and shouldn’t be on a team right now’ way.
