I am back as your pilot, highlighting my favorite WR starts and sits for Week 3, utilizing Razzball’s Wide Receiver Fantasy Points Scored Slot vs. Wide and our Defense Slot vs. Wide. The Slot vs Wide chart breaks down how many fantasy points a wide receiver has scored so far this season from the slot vs. out wide. It’s just two weeks, but we have some trends that we cannot ignore!

Starts
- Player: Tetairoa McMillan
- Opponent: vs Falcons
The rookie eclipsed the century mark for the first time this season. Don’t be shocked if he does it again in Week 3. McMillan has scored ALL his fantasy points (27.8) out wide this season while running 85% of his routes on the perimeter. He’s the top target with limited WR competition outside the slot-extraordinaire Hunter Renfrow. The Falcons allow 80% of their 30.8 points per game to WRs out wide. The Panthers aren’t shy to abandon the run as Bryce Young attempted 55 passes in Week 2 while playing catch-up against the Cards. They’ll do so again versus the Dirty Birds.
- Player: Nico Collins
- Opponent: at Jacksonville
The matchup against the Jaguars comes at the right time for the Houston passing attack and Collins, who has six receptions for 77 yards with one TD on 14 targets through two weeks. Jacksonville allows 81% of points to opposing WRs out wide, where Collins is most productive. He is scoring 91% of his fantasy points this season out wide, making this the week we see his breakout. Ja’Marr Chase dropped 165 and one TD on the Jags in Week 2. Don’t forget that Christian Kirk is set to return, which should create space for Collins to operate.
WR3 Starts (WRs ranked outside the top 25)
- Player: Troy Franklin
- Opponent: at Los Angeles Chargers
The Week 2 waiver wire pickup is a must-start in Week 3. This matchup is indoors with the third-highest implied point total (45.5). Franklin has more targets than Courtland Sutton this season, operating as the slot WR for Sean Payton with Evan Engram failing to live up to expectations as the “Joker.” The former Duck is generating 71% of his fantasy points in the slot, while Sutton and Marvin Mims are producing over 80% of their points out wide. The Chargers are giving up 49% of WR fantasy points to inside WRs, which is the sixth-highest rate in the league.
- Player: Marquise Brown
- Opponent: at New York Giants
In a must-win for the Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes will need to rely on his healthiest and best WR. Hollywood needs to get targeted more than five times against a Giants defense that is allowing the third points to WRs. Brown operated more out of the slot in Week 2, which didn’t generate the best results, so I would anticipate additional snaps out wide given the matchup. The Giants are giving up 64% of opposing teams’ WR production on the perimeter, where CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens excelled in Week 2.
Sits
- Player: Quentin Johnston
- Opponent: vs. Broncos
The Denver defense has not allowed a WR TD over two weeks. Johnston has three TDs in two weeks. Something has to give. The Broncos are allowing the ninth-fewest points to WRs on the perimeter. Johnston is scoring two-thirds of his fantasy points lined up wide. I am shying away from this match with Patrick Surtain II. Ladd McConkey and Keenan Allen will generate the most targets.
- Player: Chris Olave
- Opponent: at Seattle
The Legion of Boom would be proud of the Seahawks’ secondary through two weeks, allowing the FEWEST points to WRs. They’ve been nearly equal in allowing 8.3 points out wide and 8.9 points from the slot per game. All the Saints WRs (Rashid Shaheed, Brandin Cooks, and Olave) are fairly balanced in where they’re lined up when scoring their fantasy points. This doesn’t bode well for Olave on the road in Seattle, despite yielding double-digit targets in both games.
Defense Slot vs. Wide Chart
- Player: Deebo Samuel
- Opponent: vs. Raiders
Las Vegas is having trouble with the slot (machines) thus far in the short season, allowing the second-most points from the slot. Allen and McConkey tallied 10 grabs between the two of them on MNF. Jayden Daniels is listed as day-to-day due to a knee sprain with the expectation of playing in Week 3. I expect him to play, so he will need to get the ball out quickly against the Maxx Crosby and the Raiders’ front four. Samuel has lined up 83.1% of his snaps from the slot while scoring 71% of his fantasy points. The setting is set for Samuel to shine against an old enemy from the Bay Area.
