It was typically on Sunday evening when I received a notification that Scott Fish Bowl needed a spot filled. Without hesitation, I volunteered myself for tribute! As luck would have it, on Monday morning, there was an email with the subject line #SFB16 OFFICIAL INVITE. Just like that, it was official. I was a member of Scott Fish Bowl.

As a long-time fantasy player and a supposed subject matter expert in the field of fantasy football, this was an exciting opportunity for the NFL Razzball team and me. I’ve always wanted a chance to play, and now I’ll get my chance to compete and try to bring home the trophy.

The draft itself was a 16-day thrill ride, with as many as eight hours between selections, bringing together a group of fantasy managers from across the country. Between picks, we watched the FIFA World Cup and swapped our tall tales from the 2025 fantasy season, while filling the draft chat with the usual mix of strategy and good-natured banter.

That’s what makes the Scott Fish Bowl special. It’s more than just another fantasy football league. Over the course of the draft, strangers became friends, united by a shared love of fantasy football while raising money for an incredible cause.

For those who don’t know, Scott Fish Bowl is the largest charity fantasy football tournament in the world. Created by Scott Fish in 2011, it brings together thousands of fantasy football managers, from experts to casuals, to raise money for charity. The scoring format is wild, changing each year, and this year is no different.

The rules are simple, but surviving is NOT!

Scott Fish Bowl 16 features 5,004 teams spread across 417 leagues, with each league consisting of 12 teams. Every roster includes 10 starters and 10 bench spots, all battling for a chance at the postseason. Half the field advances to the playoffs. Teams that finish with 13 or more wins automatically qualify, while the remaining playoff spots are awarded to the highest-scoring teams.

Once the playoffs begin, the format shifts. Beginning in Week 12, each team’s score is calculated using its season-long average score plus its current week’s score, creating a rolling total that carries through Week 17. After each playoff week, 500 teams are eliminated based on how they stack up against the rest of the field.

The gauntlet continues until just 50 teams remain, all competing for a chance to hoist the Scott Fish Bowl 16 championship trophy in Week 17.

Draft Results

During the draft, I quickly learned there isn’t a single “correct” strategy, but experiencing it firsthand drove that point home. With 10 total starters consisting of eight positionless spots and two Superflex positions, Scott Fish Bowl offers nearly unlimited roster construction possibilities. You could have all WRs, RBs, or even all TEs. I don’t recommend it, but you catch my drift.

For those wondering at home, the top 10 fantasy scorers under the SFB16 scoring format last season were Puka Nacua, Jaxson Smith-Njigba, Bijan Robinson, Christian McCaffrey, Trey McBride, Josh Allen, Matthew Stafford, Dak Prescott, Jahmyr Gibbs, and Jonathan Taylor.

My approach was to exploit the scoring system by targeting explosive playmakers who can rack up first downs and bonus-point plays while maximizing the TE premium. At QB, I prioritized high-volume passers with realistic paths to multiple 300-yard games and the occasional 400-yard eruption to maximize my Superflex spots. In the end, I came away with what I believe is a balanced roster that offers both a high weekly floor and the ceiling to make a deep playoff run.
