2017 Fantasy Football NFC North Preview

This is it, I’ve reached the end of my half of the Razzball Division previews with the rest coming from Zach.  It’s been quite a journey researching the NFC for the upcoming season.  It was great going through all of the players that have disappointed me in the past and still loving them for this year and vice versa. Now, I feel somewhat ready to start my rankings for 2017.  Within a week, I will put out my top 200 for the season and I will also put out a top 100 IDP players post as well.  We’re reaching the home stretch of the NFL offseason, but we still have a lot to cover over here at Razzball.  Without further ado, let’s get to the Starks of the NFC North.

RazzBlitz Podcast: RazzThrones with Jay, Tehol, and Viz

Viz joins the normal crew for a “RazzLit” episode, which could be the new name because Jay LOVES it.  Along with the occasional “your mom” joke or a “that’s what she said”, Jay has really taking a liking to the millennial vernacular it seems.

Viz tells us about what he has in store for two of the fastest growing fantasy sports, Basketball and Hockey, this upcoming season.  Luckily for Razzball, we have some of the best fantasy sports advice for literally any fantasy sport that you want to play.

Viz tells us why he wasn’t in on this Game of Thrones season up until this past episode, which by the way, was easily one of the best in it’s 70+ episode run.  We talk about the Starks and also the crazy battle that took place setting the tone for the final three episodes of the season.  Finally, we wrap up a short episode (but it’s the motion in the ocean that counts), by talking about RCL leagues.  SIGN UP, BEAT TEHOL, WIN AWESOME PRIZES.

Strategy: Trump’s IDP Tape

IDP leagues have been around for years.  More and more leagues are gravitating towards them as people look for something different. At Razzball, we are embracing IDP this season as well.  Jay recently announced that Razzball will be including IDP slots in RCL lineups as a replacement for kickers and D/ST slots.  This is such a great and exciting way to replace the two least exciting spots in our fantasy football lineups. To keep things interesting, we will have 1 spot for a defensive lineman, 1 spot for a linebacker, and one spot for a defensive back.  Not only are we replacing the boring positions, but we are adding another starting spot.  Some of you may be unfamiliar with IDP as a whole.  Some of you may not know how to value an IDP position or strategize these spots in your draft.  I think I can help give you a few pointers.  As somebody who has been playing in leagues with 1-9 IDP spots for the last five years, I have pointers for people who are familiar with IDP as well.

Underrated: Or Is Marcus Mariota Overrated?

By definition, a “dark horse” is a little-known thing that emerges to prominence.  You can’t call the Tennessee Titans a dark horse, it’s a cop out.  We all know they have the weapons to snag a wild card spot if they aren’t able to surpass the Texans this year.  They added weapons on offense, such as Eric Decker and Corey Davis, and they were able to sign Jurell Casey to a long term contract.

2017 Fantasy Football NFC West Preview

Ever since Jim Harbaugh left for Michigan to chase Ohio State in the Big Ten, the NFC West has been a tale of two teams.  The Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals have traded blows over the past few seasons to represent the West with a home playoff game.  This season is business as usual for the Seahawks.  Seattle continues to reload while getting healthy where they were shorthanded the prior season.  The Cardinals are becoming more of a question mark as Father Time creeps in on offensive weapons that Bruce Arians depends on.

The once left for dead San Francisco 49ers are seeing a light at the end of the tunnel by bringing in John Lynch to be the GM.  Many questioned this tactic until we all witnessed him fleece the Chicago Bears on live television in the most one-sided trade that I can remember.  While we as fantasy team owners know to turn our noses this season, there are a few pieces in place to keep an eye on for the future.  Who knows, maybe there in a 2017 break out star on the 49ers.  We witnessed the magic that Kyle Shanahan can brew up last season with the Falcons.  The Rams changed head coaches but did little else to garner any attention after a disaster-ridden offensive season in 2016.

Underrated: Give Miller Another Chance

Football season has started the same way for the last two seasons for me.  I spend a weekend in July binge watching Last Chance U.  If you haven’t seen this masterpiece, it’s a Hard Knocks style show that follows a season of the best college football team that you’ve never heard of, East Mississippi Community College.  This football program, led by controversial head coach Buddy Stephens, snatches up a lot of the highly recruited SEC players who have been kicked off of their respective programs for failed drug tests, bad grades, and violent behavior.  Whether these guys deserve a second chance is up to the viewer to decide, but I dare you not to get sucked into this show about a team in Mississippi trying to win its fourth national title in six years…

2017 Fantasy Football NFC East Preview

Along with the two sophomore quarterbacks that are sparking a lot of Fantasy Football interest, there were a few free-agent moves that are going to shake things up as we build our rosters in August.  We have a few new veteran receivers in this division and a veteran name at running back that’s going to make the Philadelphia backfield situation confusing.  Also, there’s a rookie running back in Washington who is looking to take a chunk out of the backfield work.  I’m going to quit burying the lead and get the damn thing started.

Before we get into the NFC East, I want to take a paragraph and congratulate Jay, Grey, and Rudy for their Top-3 (TOP EFFING THREE!) finish in Fantasy Football draft rankings for FantasyPros last season.  These guys have been at it for years making Razzball not only one of the best fantasy baseball sites, but also one of the best fantasy football sites.  Keep telling your friends about us, the results from our content speaks volumes when you see stuff like this.

Rejoice, for Jay has broken months of podcast silence to discuss his rankings and Razzball’s favorite show… GAME OF THRONES!

Tehol questions why I question Jay’s rankings, but I don’t. I just want to learn how to be a top-10 Fantasy Football ranker in the country (top-20 the past two years). We talk Drew Brees, Kirk Cousins, Kelvin Benjamin, Jordy Nelson, and O.J. Howard with Tehol chiming in with his clever wit and boyish charm.

As we are obligated to do, we spend a few minutes on the O.J. Simpson infatuation that hasn’t stopped sweeping the nation for 25-ish years. Then we get to the good stuff… Sansa vs. Jon Snow, mispronouncing Ed Shereen’s name, and what the future holds for one of the best shows on television.

My apologies for my cat screaming in the background. He is, in fact, not abused, he just really hates our new puppy and wants the world to know. What would a Razzball podcast be without a little #productionvalue?

Overrated: Don’t Digg Yourself Into a Hole

Wide receiver is a tough position to draft outside of the top 15.  Within the next 35 players of the preseason top 50, there are 10 guys who are going to outplay their ADP, maybe by a lot. There are also 10 other receivers getting hype, who just don’t live up to it, whether they are a complete bust or just somebody who frustrates you to put into your lineup every week.  I’ve been there, I drafted Kelvin Benjamin and Sammy Watkins on the same team last season.  This league is a two-keeper league and my keepers were ho-hum going into the draft, and I knew that I had to make a splash.  Doug Martin and Brandin Cooks were career hit or miss guys so I went high upside with my first couple of picks…
