Don’t be sad that the fantasy football season is over; be glad it happened in the first place. If you are one of the many football enthusiasts who play dynasty-format fantasy football, however, you know the season never truly ends. We might be in the divisional round of the playoffs, but there’s no time to rest. Between now and the beginning of training camp is when champions are made.  We will be in the trenches, following all the breaking dynasty fantasy football news, trades, draft picks, free agent signings, and rumblings amongst NFL media, so you don’t have to.

Every week, the Dynasty Diehards will be breaking down all the relevant information from around the league and helping you make sense of it. This week, Nate and Jon break down the implications of the divisional round of the playoffs, what Buffalo needs to do to get over the playoff hump and win a Lombardi trophy, plus Jon gives us his thoughts on Quentin Johnston in the latest edition of Rookie watch.

Is Brock Purdy Legit?

This is the burning question on the minds of many NFL fans and analysts alike. Brock Purdy has been an unlikely hero for the San Francisco 49ers, managing to win all five of his first NFL starts, and has the Niners sailing in the playoffs. After a convincing win over the Cowboys in the divisional round, they are on their way to an NFC Championship match-up with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Considering he was Mr. Irrelevant in the 2022 NFL Draft, Purdy’s efficiency and poise are surprising. Reason would dictate that he’s done enough to allow San Francisco to move on from Jimmy Garopollo. But, is it a given that he will supplant Trey lance as the starter in the Bay?  If he leads this team to a championship matchup on February 12th in Glendale, it will be hard for the organization to ignore what the rookie has accomplished.

Joe Burrow, Dynasty QB1?

After a slow start to the 2022 season that had many questioning if the Cincinnati Bengals could manage a wild-card berth in the playoffs. However, Joe Burrow and company turned it around, and after a dismantling of the Buffalo Bills in the divisional round, they are headed to their second straight AFC Championship.

Burrow finished the 2022 fantasy season as the overall QB4. However, after the slow start, he finished as the QB2 from Week 6 through Week 17. The 2023 season should see Cincy address some of the issues Burrow and the Bengals offense had to overcome to get here this season.  If this team spends money to shore up their offensive line and get some help in the secondary, Burrow could have a much easier path to supplanting Patrick Mahomes as the dynasty QB1 in 2023.

The Bills NEED A Power Running Back

The Buffalo Bills fanbase is a tortured bunch. #BillsMafia, as they call themselves, thought this was their year. Josh Allen and company look nearly unstoppable at times in 2022. However, their Achilles heel was revealed late in the season and into the playoffs: outside of Allen, this team cannot effectively run the ball.

It’s not generally a good sign when he finishes the season as your team’s second-leading rusher despite making upgrades at the running back position and professing you want your star quarterback to run less. But, unfortunately, that’s precisely what happened in Buffalo in 2022. Despite trying to get Devin Singletary and rookie James Cook more involved in the red zone, the lack of a true power running attack inside the 20 proved to sink a promising ship in the NFL divisional round. So will Buffalo target someone like David Montgomery in free agency or take their chances in the upcoming NFL draft?
