Boooring…that was the one word I could come up with for the tampering period as Wide Receivers were concerned.  Michael Pittman Jr grabbed a big bag extension from the Colts.  Tee Higgins cried about being tagged then reportedly asked for (demanded) a trade from the Bengals.  Not much news to discuss while the Running Back and Quarterback signings were a veritable fantasy writers dream.  In fact, you can see the latest Running Back (Fantasy Football Running Back Rankings (razzball.com) and Quarterback (Fantasy Football Quarterback Rankings – Free Agent Frenzy (razzball.com) articles and rankings for free over at Home – Razzball Fantasy Football.  I am thankful the Wide Receiver news blew up recently and, with the news of some major signings, I have updated my rankings with some serious risers and at least one faller.

Top Free Agent Wide Receivers

  • Player: Mike Williams
  • Predicted Landing Spot: SIGNED – New York Jets
  • My Rank (2024 ECR): WR28 (WR47)

Big Game Mike rockets up my list as his signing with the Jets signals Aaron Rodgers just found his field stretching WR.  Williams will win contested battles and, as a Packers fan, I can promise that NYJ QB will throw balls into small windows or atop the catch radius for his newest receiver.  Rodgers is not shy to give his receivers a chance to win a battle, and a healthy Williams has proven the ability to do just that, especially in the red zone.  I bumped Williams up to 28 in my latest rankings, and will all things fantasy football, health is at the forefront of this rank.  If AR12 and Williams are both healthy, I look for massive returns for an early WR3 in redraft leagues.  Look for a draft day discount as ECR is almost 20 picks lower than where I have Williams slated to end the season.

  • Player: Marquise Brown
  • Predicted Landing Spot: SIGNED – Kansas City Chiefs
  • My Rank (2024 ECR): WR38 (WR43)

Are you serious?!?!?!  The rich just keep getting richer.  Another weapon for Patrick Mahomes is just what us fantasy owners love to see.  I have raised Hollywood up a few spots, and he will probably rise again once I get some training camp and pre-season footage to wet my whistle.  If there is the slightest chemistry between QB and WR, this could be a fantasy match made in heaven.  You may need to pay up by half a round to nab Hollywood and I think the upside with arguably the best QB in the league, is worth the risk.

  • Player: Diontae Johnson
  • Predicted Landing Spot: TRADED – Carolina Panthers
  • My Rank (2024 ECR): WR40 (WR41)

I know.  I know.  Johnson was not a free agent.  But, during the free agency period, Johnson was dealt from the Steelers to the Panthers.  This may seem like a solid move for the young WR as he will be back as the WR1 for a team.  Some may also lean in favor of the deal considering Arthur Smith is the new OC in Pittsburgh and that is his ‘process’ does not bode well for anyone associated with the passing game.  Before you jump all over this move, remember how bad Bryce Young (and Carolina overall) looked in 2023.  Can Young make the jump in his sophomore season?  If he can, then Johnson will benefit.  If young does not improve or even regresses, then Johnson will lose value as a PPR machine.
