Don’t be sad that the fantasy football season is over; be glad it happened in the first place. However, if you are among the many football enthusiasts who play dynasty-format fantasy football, you know the season never truly ends. So while we might be staring down the barrel of the NFL offseason, there’s plenty to be done as a dynasty manager. Between now and the beginning of training camp is when champions are made. This week, Nate is joined by guest co-host Matt Chester from The Undroppables and Fighting Chance Fantasy to help you identify some hot dynasty trade targets to either go after or stay away from.Â
NFL News & Notes
Austin Ekeler Staying Home
Chargers RB Austin Ekeler is back in San Diego. The team reworked his contract that allows him to earn an additional $1.75 million in performance-based incentives in 2023. As a result, the uncertainty surrounding Ekeler since he requested permission to seek a trade has gone by the wayside, and now we can focus on the upcoming NFL campaign.Â
Ekeler turned in an overall point-per-reception (PPR) RB1 performance in 2022. He logged 915 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground and 107 catches for 915 yards and five touchdowns. His 327.7 PPR fantasy points were fourth overall behind Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen and Jalen Hurts. Now that we know he’s back in powder blue next season, can he repeat that outstanding performance, or is he about to fall off the RB age cliff, having just turned 28?
DeAndre Hopkins Wants Stability
We recorded ahead of the news that the Arizona Cardinals were releasing WR DeAndre Hopkins, talking about him being quoted as saying he just wanted stability. Well, he’s going to have to wait a bit longer. Hopkins now finds himself a free agent for the first time. There are sure to be multiple teams interested in acquiring the talented pass-catcher, and we don’t expect him to be on the market long.Â
The big question is, are teams looking at Hopkins as a WR1, a compliment to an already established veteran presence in the receiving corps, or a mentor for a young, soon-to-be elite WR? If he’s still a WR1 option, New England and their collection of misfits will make the most sense. If he supports an established receiver, the Bills and Stefon Diggs could be suitors for Hopkins. However, Green Bay would be the spot if he ends up as a mentor in a young receiving room. Wherever he does land, it’s no sure thing.
Dynasty Trade Targets!
Trading in dynasty fantasy football is as natural as breathing. Without it, your squads would suffocate and die a lonely death of perennial last-place finishes. Of course, the trades aren’t always sexy. Sometimes it’s moving Cordarelle Patterson for a third-round rookie pick to clear up roster space for an incoming rookie. However, occasionally you see a blockbuster deal where a manager is willing to move three first-round picks to acquire Vikings WR Justin Jefferson.
In this week’s episode, we break down a handful of recent transactions. This will help you identify dynasty trade targets and what it will cost to acquire them. How can you freshen up your roster with some picks and a veteran QB without breaking the bank? Is there any way to pry Patrick Mahomes from their managers, hopefully not dead, cold hands? We’ve got you covered.Â
