RazzBowl Revelations: Hey, Beers Man!

The first round of the first ever RazzBowl Playoffs is now in the books and the RotoViz crew isn’t playing around. Mike Beers and his three headed monster backfield of Christian McCaffrey, Dalvin Cook and Derrick Henry are striking fear into the butts of the RazzBowl field as they carry a first place lead into the second round of the playoffs. If you’re looking for something to put into your ears, The Beers Man made a special guest appearance on the Razzball Fantasy Football Podcast this past week. Beers’ RotoViz compadre Hasan Rahim is hanging out in second place, with a squad also led by McCaffrey along with Ronald Jones and a slew of wide receivers including Mike Evans, D.J. Moore and Calvin Ridley.

To recap the very simple, not at all confusing, RazzBowl Playoff format: 90 out of our 180 team field (140 industry titans & 40 fans) advanced into the playoffs after week 9. The top 3 teams from each of our 15 leagues were placed into the RazzBowl Championship Bracket and the next 3 teams in each league were placed into the RazzBowl Wildcard Bracket. The scores for round one of the playoffs were tabulated by taking the teams’ scoring average from weeks 1-9 plus their cumulative scores from weeks 10, 11 and 12. The top 15 teams from the 45 team championship bracket will now continue on to round two of the playoffs in the championship bracket while the next 30 teams from the round one championship bracket will be funneled into the round two wildcard bracket.

Rest of Season 80: We Got A Weird One Folks

What an odd fantasy football year. By the end of the season there will likely be a single standout player at the 3 major positions in total points for PPR formats (Lamar Jackson, Christian McCaffrey, and Michael Thomas). The quarterback position has true tiers after being streamed for years. Oddly, the majority of the top 10 finishers at the quarterback position likely won’t have been drafted in the top 10, meaning everyone who waited with the intention of streaming made it out unscathed. Even more strange, the running back position seems to have a far higher percentage of players that maintained health and value in comparison to the wide receiver position in rounds 1-3. Frankly, this never happens. This is all made even crazier by the waiver wire being bone dry. It truly has been unlike any season I can remember. We have often heard, or used, the mantra that seasons aren’t won on draft day, but I’m not sure that applies to 2019. After we all win some fantasy championships over the next few weeks, I’ll go into more detail on my thoughts in reviewing the season and how it effects the game moving forward.

With the fantasy playoffs just one week away, we hope and pray that none of our stars get hit the injury bug. Yet this is the time, now more than ever to make sure we are fully prepared with handcuffs stashed away, and backup receivers scouted to make sure that if the bad news comes our way… we improvise, adapt and overcome!

It’s Thanksgiving Week, which means we have officially survived the bye weeks as well. What a time to be truly thankful.

What are my rankings bona fidas? Well, there’s finishing in the FantasyPros Top-10 Draft Accuracy (7th Place) in 2017, Top-25 Weekly Accuracy (23rd Place) in 2017, Top-5 Draft Accuracy (3rd place) in 2016, Top-10 Weekly Accuracy (10th Place) in 2016, Top-25 Weekly Accuracy in 2015 (21st Place) and on average we’ve finished in the Top-10 Draft Accuracy (9th Overall) and the Top-20 Weekly Accuracy (18th Overall) for the past four years and finished 30th overall for our Draft Rankings with a 32nd overall finish in Weekly just last season. And this is out of over 100+ industry sites and experts year-after-year. I’d like to think we’re pretty good at this stuff…

What does the word bona fidas mean? According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, bo·na fi·des ˌbō-nə-ˈfī-ˌdēz , ÷ˈbō-nə-ˌfīdz means 1 : good faith : sincerity, 2 : the fact of being genuine —often plural in construction, 3 : evidence of one’s good faith or genuineness —often plural in construction, 4 : evidence of one’s qualifications or achievements —often plural in construction. On a separate note, I think it would make a great name for a cat.

What’s my ranking process? I’ve actually written about this in the past, and instead of working hard for new and enlightening content, I have chosen the more efficient (lazy, ahem) method and dropping in a link to that post here. Honestly, my process hasn’t changed much at all (the ole “don’t fix what ain’t broke” proverb comes to mind) and so my “A Day in the Life of a Fantasy Football Ranker” story still remains relevant to this day. (The TL;DR is: I’m lazy as fudge. Well, I mean the other “f” word, but I’m hungry.)

How should I use your rankings? The same way your mother does. Which actually makes no sense. (Unless your mother is in the running to always finish top-3 in your Fantasy Football league. And if that’s the case, say hello to her for me.)

What are some games to look at this week? Well, there are a lot of them. But for the purposes here, we are not looking at games, but instead, matchups. Whether they be exploitable matchups, like a tight end against Arizona. Or a scary one, like a quarterback against a team out for revenge, we have both of those covered here. So let us move past any idol chat and get right to some players to look at or avoid. Depending if you are trying to win or trying to tank for Burrow or Tua.

The running back stash/wheel of death continues this week; I’m sensing a trend, maybe you’ve noticed? Early weeks, wide receivers were the dominant adds; now, its survival of the fittest running backs. So there are three wideouts I’d bid on this week and a bunch of RBs that may or may not help. Some should’ve been added prior weeks. There are even a couple of Tight Ends, which if you’ve been reading has been really tough to pin down which TE will hit each week.

Handcuff Report: Bad Boyz of Week 13

It’s that time of the year, the majority of fantasy leagues are entering the last week of the regular season. Fantasy owners that have secured a playoff spot need to prepare themselves for a championship victory. One way to protect yourself through the playoffs is by grabbing your stud running back handcuff. Unless you own two top 10 QBs, there is no reason to hold two quarterbacks. There is no point wasting bench spots with players that are never going to hit your starting lineup. Nothing is worse than losing Dalvin Cook while you are in the hunt for fantasy football glory only to find that you have no shot at grabbing Alexander Mattison because of low waiver priority or min FAAB budget. Make sure you grab your insurance policy before the price increases. Chris Carson owners are learning that lesson this week. Don’t get caught with your pants down and good luck as you jockey for playoff positioning.
