I’m still not sure why I called this pod the “pre-preseason” episode, but I’m sure it had something to do with the season fast approaching. MAYBE. Tehol and I went over the latest slate of presesason Week 3 games that happened during the weekend, more specifically about Randall Cobb and Tre Mason’s injuries, and the clusterf*ck that is the Washington quarterback situation. Also, we had a special guest, Matt from FanDuels, stop by and go over what we have in store this season for you guys daily fantasy wise. We then wrapped up the show going over Tehol‘s Disgrace and Delight rankings, always a treat. Mostly for Tehol… but a treat nontheless. Enjoy the show! (And don’t forget, if you want to take on Tehol or myself, we have leagues open in the RCL!)

Note: All of our rankings, projections, and values have been updated on Sunday and should be activated later today. They can be found here.

Had a draft last night, what do you think? 12 team, .5 per.

    QB – kaepernick
    WR – r. Cobb
    WR – d. Hopkins
    RB – j. Charles
    RB – j. Stewart
    TE – j. Thomas
    W/TE – j. Edelman
    W/RB/TE – cj spiller

    Bn – joique bell
    Bn – v. Cruz
    Bn – knile Davis
    Bn- Charles sims
    Bn- Davonte sims
    Bn- breshad perriman
    Bn- jay ajiyi

Not a big fan of Stewart but hard to pass up a starting rb in round 5.

    Thanks

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Yo: Not a fan of Kap, but the team looks solid. I think JStew is fine when paired up with Charles. Bench has a good mix, though I don’t think Ajayi has looked good so far.

      • Yo says:
        (link)

@Jay: Yeah I’m not a fan of Kap either, I waited too long and didn’t expect 20 QBs to get drafted in a 12 teamer, thought I could have grabbed one of eli, rivers, bridgewater, Stafford, etc.

Other QBs available are Dalton, Mariota, Winston, carr…grab one of these guys or roll with Kap?

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@Yo: Yeah, that seems weird. Some leagues can do crazy things like that though. I’d roll with Kap out of those guys though.

Good stuff on the ‘cast today, powered me through a half-awake breakfast this morning lol. Been prepping hardcore the last few days for my draft last night using a combination of your PPR rankings and the projections from Yahoo given my leagues scoring system. The league definitely rewards volume (.5 points per completion, 1 PPR, 4 points for passing touchdowns, 6 points for receiving, rushing, and return touchdowns, 1 point per 50 passing yards, 1 point per 10 rushing yards, 1 point per 15 receiving yards).
    Here’s how it came out:
    QB – Matt Ryan
    WR – Demaryius Thomas
    WR – Allen Robinson
    WR – John Brown
    RB – Le’Veon Bell
    RB – Andre Ellington
    TE – Heath Miller
    K – Randy Bullock
    DST – New England
    Bench – Devonta Freeman
    Bench – Tevin Coleman
    Bench – Kendall Wright
    Bench – Devin Funchess
    Bench – Jordan Reed
    Bench – Marcus Mariota
    How’s it look?

    • flagg3288 says:
      (link)

@spm7189: Forgot to mention its a 12-teamer. I know how well a draft goes doesn’t necessarily define how the season goes but I had a poor draft last year in this league and after I lost AP the rest of my team was doomed to a 5-8 finish.

      • Jay

        Jay says:
        (link)

@flagg3288: I think you should feel okay about it. Your RB tandem is real solid, and that’ll make up for a weaker WR corps. Bench is meh, but okay enough, I think you should be fine. But you might have to tinker a bit.

  3. Steve Stevenson says:
    (link)

Dynasty rookie/FA draft this week, standard scoring, start 2RB, 2WR and a flex. My bench RB are Foster, Randle (who i was planning to Flex most weeks till Foster’s back), Crowell and Freeman. Was hoping T. Coleman or Duke Johnson fell to me at 10, but with the weekend’s news (McFadden may not be dead, Johnson is concussed), should I be thinking about DMC there so i have a startable RB3 covered on my roster?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Steve Stevenson: Yeah, right now DMC looks okay. I might take a gander there.

    • Jay

      Jay says:

@FrankGrimes: We’ll get the word out Tehol slayer!

  4. Derrick says:
    (link)

Thoughts on this team? 12 team. .8 PPR.

    QB – Matt Ryan, Bridgewater
RB – J. Hill, L. Bell, Lat. Murray, Woodhead, D. Robinson
WR – J. Jones, S. Smith, M. Bryant, Coltston, Hurns, Garçon
    TE – Graham
    Def – Lions

During this draft I traded Gurley and a 4th for AJ Green and a 10th. Then I traded Green and Gronk for Bell and Graham. Crazy draft.

Also, Murray and Hill were my keepers.

    • Derrick says:
      (link)

      @Derrick: We start 1 QB, 2 RB’s, 2 WR’s, 1 flex (RB/WR), 1 TE, 1, Def.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Derrick: I like that trade, all of them for you. Well done.

  5. gmatt21 says:

I just found out i have 1st pick in 10 team PPR. Im I taking Marshawn J CHarles or AP?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@gmatt21: My rankings say Bell, and then AP and Charles, but they are all really close. I’m fine with all three.

  6. Joe says:
    (link)

Trying to decide on my keepers in a 12 team .5 PPR where I draft 4th overall and have two second round picks. I can keep two of the following players, losing the pick next to them:
    Charles (1st)
    Gronk (3rd)
    Jeremy Hill (7th)

I’m leaning towards keeping Gronk and 1 RB. Not sure if that’s the best idea but have been going back and forth on Hill/Charles. Right now I know AP, Lacey, McCoy, CJ Anderson, Antonio Brown, Lamar Miller and Forsett are being held but I’m not sure about anyone else. Which two would you go with? Thanks!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Joe: I think it’s a good idea actually. I’d do Gronk and HIll as well, since with the first pick, you can get back a tier 1 RB.

  7. Harrison Ford in Air Force One says:
    (link)

Drafted this squad over the weekend. Yahoo Keeper. Start 3 WRs, 2RBs and a Flex. Thoughts?

    QB–Manning, Bradford
    WR–Cobb, Jeffery, A. Robinson, C. Johnson, J. Brown, M. Colston
RB–Le’Veon Bell, Abdullah, M. Gordon, Gurley, R. Hillman
    TE–Jordan Cameron
    DEF–Miami

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Harrison Ford in Air Force One: In a keeper? Yeah, I like it. Love Bell, Ameer, and Gordon right there, and then you go and add Gurley. Well done.

      • Harrison Ford in Air Force One says:
        (link)

        @Jay:

Yea, we can only keep 2 guys, but still hopeful that one of those picks will turn out to be gold. Appreciate the input! And nice podcast!

Jay!! I know it’s early, but for week 1 streaming def, you like the Colts first 5 match ups?
    At Bills
    Vs Jets
    At Tenn
    Vs Jags
    At Hou

Options are Colts, Carolina, Chiefs, Packers for Week1…thanks bud

    • Jay

      Jay says:

@MadMax210: I’m iffy on the Bills if Tyrod starts, but I like them the rest of the way.

      • JohnnyBeGood says:
        (link)

@Jay: yea, Tyrod is starting for the Bills…so who do you like for Week 1 stream?

        – Colts (at Bills)
        – Carolina (at Jags)
        – Chiefs (at Hou)
        – Packers (at Chi)
        – Bucs (vs Tenn)

        Thanks Jay!

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@JohnnyBeGood: For week one, I love that Chiefs matchup right now. Could change, but it’s pretty solid.

Hey Jay, glad to have the fantasy football draft & season within arms reach! I’m drafting this Thursday so I’ll be sure to post a few questions leading up to draft day. Thanks as always, appreciate all your posts & quick responses considering the volume of comments last season!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Nick: Please do! And thanks for being part of the community!

      • Nick says:
        (link)

@Jay: No problem, really like the website..I actually used to browse razzball.com (baseball portal) & when I started playing Fantasy football I knew which blog I would check on a weekly basis for all things FF!

On to more important things…I’m in a 10team standard (FAAB waivers) league…I snagged DeMarco & Rodgers last year with I think the 3rd or 4th overall pick. That landed me in 3rd to finish the season.

This year, I’m thinking go with 2 RBs first, than go QB….however, I really enjoyed having Rodgers & not worrying about a QB on a weekly basis (not to mention he put up huge consistent #s).

I’m nervous about the top RBs this year…I mean Peterson is ranked #1 but hasnt played in a year! Bell is #2 but is out the first 2 games (I can deal with that since he’s been crazy good). & Forte @ #3 also boggles me as the Bears look lost out their on the field…

What positions would you target in a very thin league (10 teamer)?

        • Mike Hunt's Honorable Discharge says:
          (link)

@Nick: i’m guessing in a 10 teamer (even more so if it’s a 6 pt passing for QB’s) getting a top QB goes up slightly in value, and since WR’s are deeper than RB this year grabbing more top end RB’s might be more valuable as well.

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@Nick: I still focus on RB’s, the depth just isn’t there this year. QB 3rd round is okay if it’s Rodgers or Luck, but you gotta focus on RB’s.

          • Nick says:
            (link)

@Jay: Thanks Jay. Its 4 pts for QB TD, so ill agree with you and pick a QB during round 3 or later. Don’t think I’ll get Rodgers or Luck as they will be off the board by end of round 2

            • Jay

              Jay says:
              (link)

@Nick: yeah, you should be fine without a top tier guy.

  10. Jack says:
    (link)

    Brian Quick or Reuben Randle?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

      @Jack: Quick, but it’s close.

  11. Sausage says:
    (link)

Have 2nd pick in 12 team PPR league. This whole Bell two game suspension has me hung up. Assuming AP is taken before me can anyone convince me to take Brown, Lacy, or Charles before Bell???

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Sausage: Because it’s PPR, I’m fine with Bell, but a strong case can be made for Brown. For what it’s worth, I have them ranked one and two, respectively.

  12. Clint says:
    (link)

So how long do you think it’ll take the Browns to pony up more draft picks to go after ‘the one that got away’ in RG3 now that he’s been benched by Overlord Gruden?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Clint: I’d say none. I think he has little trade value, honestly. I think they’ll hang onto him this season, since Cousin implodes a lot, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he found his way to the Jets, Bills, or Texans. Patriots could be an interesting wild card too, but I doubt that would happen.

  13. Barker says:
    (link)

Would you drop isaiah crowell or devin funchess or just drop kicker and wait it out until season starts for darren mcfadden 10 team league

My rbs d murray gore coleman blount crowell
My wrs dez marshall robinson agholor funchess

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Barker: Well, with Funchess injurying his hamstring again, it complicates the situation. I’d probably drop the kicker for DMC and see how things develop.

  14. Barker says:
    (link)

Would you drop crowell or funchess or K and wait it out til season starts for mcfadden ?
    10 team league

My rbs murray gore blount coleman crowell
My wrs dez marshall robinson agholor funchess

    • Barker says:

      @Barker: sorry for double post

Would you drop either for garcon also

      • Jay

        Jay says:

@Barker: I’d drop Funchess for Garcon probably.

  15. Mike Hunt's Honorable Discharge says:

same league as mentioned just over a week ago
14 team dynasty with active rosters of 18. i have to cut at least 2, 3-4 if i want to draft 1 or 2 rookies.
Somewhat weird scoring settings. super values QB’s and good kickers, somewhat overvalues good team D’s.
20 yds per pt for throwing, 6 pt TD’s, -2 for picks, 15 yards per rushing and receiving pt, only 5 for rushing/receiving TD’s. -2 for fumbles lost, 25 yards per return yard.
    with kickers 3 for FG’s under 30, 30-39 worth 4, 40-49 worth 5, over 49 worth 6, -4 for under 20 yds missed, -3 for 29-20 yds missed, -2 for 39-30 yds missed, -1 for 49-40 yds missed.

    roster = QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 regular flex, 1 super flex, K, D, 8 BN.
    i have
QB foles/palmer/hoyer/sanchize (traded for sanchize last year, and bradford won’t stay healthy)
RB – AP, Hyde, Ellington, mason
WR dez, green, cooks, t.smith,c.johnson (MIN)
    TE Green Julius
K barth (not so good here, i found out about barth being flipped like 20 minutes before keepers were due, and i wasn’t at a computer)
    D MIA
Turns out we HAD to drop down to 16 at most total people by league rules, and by who else was dropped i fully understand why i got no trade offers for a.will/michael/stills. With all of these dropped: spiller, sproles, d.walker, woodhead, mike floyd, sankey, mccown, baldwin, matthews (RB), garcon, wheaton. Standard rankings say it now goes (i tweaked a little at the top end with the big name rookies, and QB’s being worth so damn much)
Gordon, Randle (but this is now listed as timeshare, i’m scared), Gurley, Cooper, 2 big QB’s, Yeldon, Abdullah, Spiller, Coleman,Agholor, Freeman, Garcon, Woodhead, Matthews, D.Walker, Bush, Funchess, Royal, D.Cobb, Duke J, T.Will, Sankey, Dave Johnson, Parker, Ball, Stills, Sproles, Hill, Coleman, M.Jones, Dorsett, Mike Floyd, Green-Beck, Polk, Baldwin, Wheaton, Perriman, J.White, Britt, Latimer and more.

This won’t change my first pick at 9th overall (need RB for future so likely Yeldon), but it will change my options at my other pick at 37th overall. With that roster and all of McCown/Taylor/Geno as other starting QB options, do i grab
    1. one of those QB, later dropping Sanchize for depth piece (TE backup Clay also out there) or WR #6
    2. grab Hill if he’s still there (i know to grab D.Walker if he’s still there, but less likely).

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Mike Hunt’s Honorable Discharge: The emergence of Tyrod makes this interesting. I like what I’ve seen so far. And I’ve become less enamored of Josh Hill as time keeps going, so take that for what it’s worth.

      • Cheese Eating Surrender Monkey says:
        (link)

@Jay: yikes, so stick with Hill over J.Cook or Tamme till Gates is back?

    rb Stewart
    rb Martin

    bench
    Coleman

    D Cobb
    S Johnson wr sd

I had to Frankenstein my QB position

    Thanks JZ

@clubberlane: well, you know how I feel about Bridgewater. Love Cooks. The RB2 situation is a little scary though.

lafell hasn’t been adjusted yet in projections. he’s looking bad though to play. wayne not even in projections. how much of lafell’s stats should be flipped over to dola/wayne/edelman. and same question or gibson, who’s shown to make 68/874/5 but he’s out for the year.

    • Mordacious Levator says:
      (link)

@Mordacious Levator: sorry, those stats were lafell’s listed, gibson’s are 8/102/1.

    • Jay

      Jay says:

@Mordacious Levator: Yeah, those will be updated soon. I’d say Wayne is the biggest benificiary.

  19. Lamar Killed My Vibe says:

Just had my draft last night 10 team standard curious to your thoughts.

    Qb- Matt Ryan & Bridgewater
RB- L. Bell, L. Miller, M. Gordon, David Johnson.
WR- Julio Jones, D. Hopkins, A. Robinson, M. Wallace, Martavis Bryant
TE – Julius Thomas, Jordan Cameron.
    K- Crosby
    Def – Denver

    Thanks.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Lamar Killed My Vibe: It’s a good team, but the depth is a bit shallow. You might need to drop Bridgewater for a RB or WR as the season progresses.
