This week is shaping up to be the best week to ever watch football with the two worst franchises on bye in Dallas and Chicago.  Seriously, did you see the Week 6 Dallas performance, at home, versus the Detroit Lions?  If Dallas was not on a bye in Week 7, the league would have probably mandated the team took a week off to sit in the corner and think about the product they are putting on the field.  Enter the Bears who just whipped the Jags in London and you have the most hated franchise (by me) of all time.  Week 7 football will be glorious since I will not have to hear about either of these teams.  Week 7…what a time to be alive!

With the Chiefs, Rams, Dolphins, and Vikings back, make sure you spice up your lineups with players from those teams.  Now, let’s look at some names that may help you cover down for the missing Cowboys and Bears while also providing some relief for players that are underperforming.  I am looking directly at you Travis Etienne!  Fair warning: This week’s column will be RB heavy.  While working on your Week 7 lineups, place a little focus on the Browns, Packers, Raiders and Seahawks who will be off in Week 9.

An additional, small consideration for you, the reader, as you move through my weekly columns is to understand that a waiver article is not a mandate from me to add/drop players each week.  Sometimes the best move is the one you do not make.  I fully understand that waivers and trades are top of the fun list in fantasy football but remember winning trumps all other fun things in fantasy football.  Take the following names as options, considerations for your squad versus must-add players.  Only add players when it makes sense for you and your team(s).

WAIVERS:

ADD OF THE WEEK = To be honest and transparent this week, there is not a top of the roster, sure-fire add of the week.  There are a group of names that will have a lot of ‘maybes’ attached to them in this write-up.

QB: Drake Maye – 6% rostered: After Maye’s Week 6 performance, I think it is safe to say the Patriots starting QB position is now his to lose.  Sure, he threw two interceptions, but we forget about those when looking at the total stat line.  Maye did not embarrass himself in his first ever NFL start while logging 243 yards passing with 3 TDs and 38 rushing yards.  For a player you can grab virtually for free, I like Maye moving forward in SuperFlex formats.  He may not crack the starting lineup in single QB leagues, but there are more bye weeks (and injuries) headed our way.

Honorable Mention/Cheaper Options:

QB: Justin Fields – 56% rostered: Fields is much more of an honorable mention than he is a cheap option.  Let me say this about Fields: He is not an above-average passing QB, but he is an elite rushing QB as is evident by the number of bad passes and two rushing TDs in Week 6.  That game is a microcosm of what Fields will bring to the table each week.  He will provide ugly passing stats while being able to compensate with his legs.  I am not a fan and will not roster him, but with him being available in 44% of leagues, he should be a consideration for others.

RB: Sean Tucker – 1% rostered.  Here is the first name with a big ‘maybe’ associated with him.  Tucker led the league RBs in fantasy points with 36 after dropping 192 all-purpose yards (14 carries, 3 receptions) and two TDs as the Bucs pulled away from the Saints in Week 6.  Tucker was a stud for a squad that dropped a 50-burger on the Saints in New Orleans!  The big maybes for Tucker are named Rachaad White (could be back in Week 7) and Bucky Irving (the RB1 for TB).  Tucker had a career game in Week 6, but we do not know if that will translate to similar performances in future weeks.  I like Tucker more if we get word that White will be sitting another week.

Honorable Mention/Cheaper Options:

Tyrone Tracy Jr. – 45% rostered: Tracy’s roster percentage doubled heading into Week 6 and his 100+ all-purpose yards and 1 TD performance did not disappoint.  The ‘maybe’ lingering out there is the health/return of Devin Singletary.  I am of the opinion Tracy has earned the right to be the starter, but I do not make the lineups for the Giants (or any other NFL team, so you know).  I think Singletary will slot back in as the starting RB for NY but feel (gut feel here) Tracy has done enough to earn more touches even when Singletary is back.

Tyler Allgeier – 30% rostered: Don’t look now, but Bijan had 2 rushing TD.  Oh wait, this is a line about his backup, Allgeier.  Even with Bijan dominating the Panthers, he only outscored Allgeier by a couple of points in the fantasy world.  These two stat lines tell me there is enough meat on the bone for both RBs to eat.  Allgeier is an ideal handcuff that is much more than a handcuff and should currently be rostered in all formats.

Kimani Vidal – 11% rostered will be a hot topic around the fantasy water cooler.  Pump the breaks a little before asking me should you drop Player X to ad Vidal.  Dude had six total touches with one being a nice sideline catch and run TD.  Vidal is worth a flier add with Gus Edwards on the shelf for a minimum of three more weeks, but he is not the savior.  Right now, the RB1 for the Chargers is clearly J.K. Dobbins.  Vidal can be a nice compliment to Dobbins and the story ends there.

Ty Chandler – 28% rostered (‘maybe’ Aaron Jones’ hip injury lingers in Week 7)

Isaac Guerendo – 4% rostered (‘maybe’ Jordan Mason’s shoulder is still an issue)

Alexander Mattison – 51% rostered (‘maybe’ he keeps finding the end zone)

Ray Davis – 13% rostered (‘maybe’ James Cook’s turf toe sidelines him again)

WR: Still Josh Downs – 48% rostered if Joe Flacco is the QB.  The big ‘maybe’ here is if TEMU Justin Fields becomes the Indy starting QB again, then Downs takes a massive hit in production.

Honorable Mention/Cheaper Options:

Bub Means – 0% rostered (Chris Olave in concussion protocol on short week)

DeMario Douglas – 7% rostered (did Drake and DeMario just become best friends?)

Romeo Doubs – 35% rostered (back from suspension with 2 TD game)

Gabe Davis – 17% rostered (garbage points count as much as all points)

Darius Slayton – 34% rostered (the ‘maybe’ is Nabers’ return)

Jaylen Tolbert – 35% rostered (positive points each week)

Michael Wilson – 16% rostered (finally cashed in a TD)

TE: This position is still anyone’s guess.  I lean toward ‘maybe’ Dallas Goedert is out an extended period opening the door for Grant Calcaterra – 0% rostered but prefer adding names like Zach Ertz (solid floor), Noah Fant (solid floor), Hunter Henry (Maye > Brissett), Cade Otton (Baker > everyone), and Ja’Tavion Sanders (appears to be taking TE1 role for CAR) – all under 30% rostered.

Remember, you do NOT have to make a move each week.  You do not have to force trades.  If you look at your roster and a hole does not immediately jump out to you, then maybe your team is good to go for Week 7.  If you see a hole (injury, bye, underperformance), then start looking at options to make your team better.
