This week in the Slot vs. Wide PPG Allowed Analysis, we break down some of the notable matchups for wide receivers that play in the slot vs. out wide! However, before we do, let’s address some of the horrific calls from Week 6. The first was Jerry Jeudy. I guess I am a hopeless romantic and thought Jeudy could rekindle the old flame and produce as he did vs. the Chiefs in 2022, but boy, was I wrong. The second was Michael Gallup. This one I am not going to capitulate on. Gallup had 10 targets and had one potential touchdown grab that was an overthrow and another that he dropped. Sorry, but I did my job. Michael needs to do his.

Ok, now that we got that awkward conversation out of the way, let’s talk about Week 7. In this article, we are going to identify those matchup trends to see how they will impact your fantasy teams this week.

We will address additional slot vs. wide matchups in more detail on the slot vs. wide matchup show this Friday at 5:00 p.m. PST on the Razzball Fantasy YouTube channel, but for now, let’s dive into the top matchups for Week 7

Notable Out Wide Matchups

Defense: Seattle Seahawks

Out Wide PPG Allowed: 8th

Week 7 START: Marquise Brown

The Marquise Brown and Josh Dobbs connection is like every late 90s and early 2000s rom-com. In the beginning, no one thought the nerdy girl could be super attractive, but just take off her glasses and put her in a dress, and the next thing you know, she is the prom queen. Now maybe Dobbs isn’t the prom queen, but he’s at least not the class clown. Anyway, Brown is somehow the WR17 while not facing a single top 10 out wide defense so far in 2023. This week he gets his first Top 10 matchups vs. the Seahawks, which should lock him in as a WR2!

Defense: Arizona Cardinals

Out Wide PPG Allowed: 11th

Week 7 START: D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett

Currently, both D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett sit outside the top 20 in PPR PPG. However, the silver lining is that both are averaging 12 PPR PPG or better vs. the toughest early season out wide schedule. This week Metcalf and Lockett should look more like Bateman and Robin vs. Bonnie and Clyde (at the end of the movie). The Cardinals have allowed monster performances to wide receivers in each of the last four weeks, and the dynamic duo in Seattle should be sleepless no more.

Defense: Cleveland Browns

Out Wide PPG Allowed: 32nd

Week 7 SIT: Michael Pittman

The Gardner Minshew and Michael Pittman connection will be on full display for the rest of the season. Minshew hasn’t had any issues in the past propping up top wide receivers. D.J. Chark had a monster season with Minshew, and even DeVonta Smith had some of his best games with Gardner in 2022. However, in Week 7, it’s best to think of this connection like lamb and tuna fish vs. spaghetti and meatball (Big Daddy reference). The Browns have allowed the least amount of fantasy points to outside wide receivers, including shutting down DeAndre Hopkins, Zay Flowers, and Ja’Marr Chase, just to name a few.

Notable Slot Matchups

Defense: New Orleans Saints

Slot PPG Allowed: 7th

Week 7 START: Christian Kirk

Last week I got burned rushing to the counter to get my start in for Thursday night football, but unlike Jerry Jeudy, Christian Kirk doesn’t hate me. How do I know this, well, I don’t, but if he plays well tonight, I will send him a Christmas card. Helping Kirk has been the injury to Zay Jones, and it looks like he will be out again this week. This should allow Kirk to exploit a great matchup vs. a Saints DST that has been getting crushed from the slot. This is while facing no notable slot guys other than Adam Thielen (7-54-1) this season.

Defense: New York Giants

Slot PPG Allowed: 4th

Week 7 START: Curtis Samuel

It is clear over the first six weeks of the NFL season that Curtis Samuel is the WR2 in Washington. This is a bigger upset in the fantasy community since Eddie Lacy gained all that weight and decided not to be good anymore. That was wild. His rookie season was awesome. Who were we talking about again?! Oh, Curtis Samuel! Samuel has been solid this season, currently sitting as the WR33. This week he gets a Giants DST that has allowed the 4th most fantasy points to the slot. With six teams on bye this week, Samuel is like Raisin Bran cereal. Is it great? No, but you will like it for some reason.
