Even though I’m not one to pat myself on the back (actually, I am), Razzball has been on an upward curve, bringing some sort of conglomerate synergistic metamorphosis (as they say in the corporate world), providing you an ever-improving ranking accuracy year after year. How do we do it? No clue. It could be dark wizardry. It could be indigestion. It could even be your mother. But I have to admit, this year is going to be daunting, if only because the expectations we’ve placed on ourselves here at Razzball Football are at an all time high (just like my college years). Going from 31st overall to 22nd in Weekly Fantasy Football accuracy is one thing. But going from 22nd to the top 10 in the entire nation last season is quite another. And then on top of that, to finish third overall in our Draft Rankings last year… well, it’d be folly to try and say “Yes, we’re going to try even more, (more better if you believe in remedial English)”, but yeah, I’m going to say it… We’re going to do more better. (My English teacher just placed a bounty on me.) With that said, and my parentheses key broken, here are your 2017 Fantasy Football Top 50 Rookies Rankings

Thanks for these rookie rankings. Very useful.

    Keeper question:

In a 12 team .5 PPR, 1 QB league I’m already keeping D. Adams for a 14th round pick and Tyreek Hill for a 13th.

I was going to keep Jordan Reed as my final keeper for an 8th round pick but his constant injury issues, including his current toe problem, have me wondering if I should throw him back and keep Matt Ryan for a 12th. I like Reed but the injuries are frustrating.

    Thanks for your thoughts.

      @MattyIce: Welcome!

I’m not opposed to keeping Ryan here, it’s close enough, the 12-teamer helps, but I think Reed still brings the best value, even with the injury concerns. I’d probably go with him ultimately, but it’s close.

    Hey Jay,

Couple of keeper questions, both 12 team .5 ppr

    1. $200 auction, keep 0 to 3: (leaning first 3)

    Rivers $3
    T Coleman $8
    Procise $3
    Meridith $5
    Rudolph $5
    Ingram $17
    D Henry $20
    Larry Fitz $31
    Newton $35
    Cooper $51

    2. Keep 3 but only 1 per position allowed (leaning Winston/Cooper/Gurley)
    QB : Winston, Prescott
WR: Bryant, Cooper, Alshon, Keenan Allen
    RB: Ajayi, Gurley
    TE: Rudolph

    thanks Boss!

@nightpandas: Hard decisions here, but I’m with you. Love both your decisions here. I had thought maybe Ingram instead of Procise, but I just love the value too much there.

    Jay, great stuff! Keeper question:

    We keep 3, 10 team/2 QB/PPR
    A Rodgers (Rd 1)
    D Prescott (14)
    M Evans (10)
    A Cooper (6)
    A Robinson (12)

@KMDA007: Thanks! I’d say Evans, Prescott, and Cooper. I wanted Robinson instead of Cooper, but I’m a huge Amari guy… really tough decision there.

    Hey Jay,

Thanks for the rankings. I have a few keeper league questions.

I’m in a 12 man 1/2 point ppr league where we can keep up to 4 players. You must keep one and if you keep 3 additional, you lose those rounds’ picks.

We have a 3 year limit on keepers . Therefore I must get rid of Antonio Brown.

My other potential keepers consist of Freeman, Crowell, Ty Mont., Ware, Evans, Davante Adams, Matt ryan and r. Wilson.

Who are you thinking to keep and who/what positions do you think I should target with AB?

    Thanks a lot

back to football time of year, i may have attempted to start cramming in maybe 5 more days but a comish in a 12 team 2 QB half-PPR dynasty with only 4 IDP’s (small scoring IDP’s relative to a lot of leagues) flex spots. last time i read anything it was predraft around the “orange episode” podcast. now on page 5 (late april) moving fast. reading rookie reports too as my MUCH deeper 20 teamer with FULL IDP rosters keepers are due the 6th, draft the 13th (albeit we keep almost entire rosters). i’ll use your rankings for half-PPR for the order here.
QB rodgers/rodfather (he’s still in BUF starting eh, good, that could’ve turned out worse, or better)/brock lobster (THIS isn’t looking good)
RB (2) really bad RB in this league. ingram (19)/woodhead (29)/forte (31)/mckinnon (67, and you are very high on him)/ivory (79)/r.mathews (yuck do have )
WR (3) really good here, need to trade for RB from this: jordy (4)/allen (18)/edelman (31)/d-jax (35)/decker (38)/britt (40)/ treadwell (83)
    TE ertz (13)
    K ?
IDP (4 flex spots, it’s NOT big play so your rankings appear not awesome for me to use, i’ll scramble yet again across the year, as nearly none of my leagues are “big-play” they are tackle based, i.e. tackles are at least less than a 3-1 ratio less than sacks, sometimes half of sacks. all defensive stats are based from tackles, often a .5 for half tackle, 1 for solo, 2 for sack, 3 for TO’s etc) ogletree (9), collins (8), telvin smith (11), larry david (no the other L.david, but new curb on october 1st, 38). in fact in this league it’s probably closest to “big-play” with tackle solo being .75 to a 2 for a sack (so it’s a “big-play” but the IDP overall stats are weak when compared to offensive players more so than my other leagues)

    1. having somehow won this league (with a 3rd or slightly worse roster by scoring) i’ve got the 12th pick in every round (slow draft started TODAY, with YESTERDAY us being notified); i guess just use your and an earlier dynasty rankings here and grab RB or move QB up for 2 QB of course.

    2. HOW far up would i move the QB’s in this and my particular roster (fornette went at 1st thus far)

    3. i’m guessing l.david’s ranking is proof positive as to your rankings being “big-play” based? even with kwon A around he still was producing pretty well last year (but tackle based not big plays mostly). interesting enough upon a cursory glance yours aren’t far from FP IDP overall though.

    • Aubrey Plaza's Pillow says:

@Aubrey Plaza’s Pillow: and team D/special teams DEN (so that’s good). the team D’s score high relative to IDP’s here. also since only 48 IDP’s total are started it’s generally very easy to find replacements in case of injuries and such.

      • Aubrey Plaza's Pillow says:
        (link)

@Aubrey Plaza’s Pillow: oops, also have r.anderson (70). and we CAN cut players as the slow draft goes on. i’m at roster max now so every time i pick i drop. this leads to
        4. what’s my best order of drops: ivory/r.mathews (or mathews first?) have 2 IR’s but of course those tend to go fast.

        • Aubrey Plaza's Pillow says:

@Aubrey Plaza’s Pillow: ah crap, THIS is major reason i hate drafts before like august 20th or so (also my b-day), your own dynasty ranks aren’t out yet. your rookie ranks ARE, but probably once i get outside the top end guys some variance starts occurring as to long term values vs best landing spot for this year values. i do see another writer did have dynasty rankings though (at LEAST one writer, i’m on page 5)

@Aubrey Plaza’s Pillow: I’ll get them out today and the weekend if that helps. And yeah, Early August… just seems most aren’t ready yet.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Aubrey Plaza’s Pillow: Aubrey, sup! So yeah, in 2 QB leagues, I usually like to go QB, then RB or WE, then QB. With the dynasty element, yeah that seems right. And I’d say yes, I did form my IDP rankings based on the player’s potential for the big play… honestly, it’s how I think that portion of the scoring is won.

      • Aubrey Plaza's Pillow says:
        (link)

@Jay: football is arguably the WORST sport to do early drafts for
        1. season itself is small sample, thus ANY changes effect it more
        2. jobs gained or lost in preseason, more often change dramatically
        3. injuries

only good thing here is it’s a dynasty (so talent trumps roles mostly), and only 3 or maybe 4 max rounds.

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

          Agreed on everything here…

      • Aubrey Plaza's Pillow says:
        (link)

@Jay: on the IDP thing lots could affect it on big play or not.

        1. scoring (if you are doing sacks are 3 times a tackle or more, then yeah it’s just this easy. and often if sacks are 3 times TO probably AT least 3 times more)
        2. depth of players. big difference between a 12 team start 3 LB/2 DL/2 DB and a 20 team start real life (yeah DT’s 2 of those, and CB/S/DE 3 LB).
        3. standard deviation of player type. so like many of the top 20 DE’s get the most sacks, but few tackles, so their AVG points per game might be good, but they’ll have awesome games and bad games to get to that average. and if suddenly they play through injuries for a time period those big games might dry up completely. and even if we assume the top 20 DE’s do in fact get those sacks, this is less true for the 21-40 DE (so ranking them it wouldn’t be at all linear when compared to LB). meanwhile the 35th LB or later will get consistent points from the tackles.

what kind of scoring are you assuming, i literally don’t know what a “standard” scoring IDP even is (to be fair i’ve only done these for about 3 total years, and went out of my way to generally start or join 2 or max 2.66 to 1 sack to tackle ratio ones, the non-big plays)

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@Aubrey Plaza’s Pillow: Yeah, I don’t know standard either. RCLs come out Monday and we’re adding 3 IDP slots, and I think we have 1 for tackle, 1 for tackle for loss, and 2 for sack with those, so up to four points there for a huge play… I’m certainly weary of doling out too much, but from what I’ve discussed with others, this seems okay. We’ll see though.

          • Aubrey Plaza's Pillow says:
            (link)

@Jay: yeah, ok, that’s super shallow. pretty much no CB, definitely no DT (even AAron donald i’d rather punt for LB’s). arguably 2 total DT even should be owned probably. also, that isn’t a big play league settings. the alec ogletree’s (which are obviously ranked high in ANY type) are still kings in that (a guy you can count on for say 12 or so tackles). obviously watt, but he doesn’t really count anyway as IF healthy he’s in his own class. that’s actually close to most of my league settings, so TO’s i’m guessing are 3 (with possibly forced fumble being 3 and recov fum being 2).

            – the thing that often happens (even with a lot of the “big-name” DE’s (not watt)) to DE’s is they’ll get the 1.5 or whatever sacks, but maybe 3-6 tackles. whereas MOST MLB gobble gobble gobble up tackles. i don’t know if you still talk to kevin (yr the KING kevin the KING) but ask him if you do.

            • Aubrey Plaza's Pillow says:
              (link)

@Aubrey Plaza’s Pillow: oh, quick note on a IDP with 36 total guys started. it’s easy to hold onto a “name” guy who’s been awesome in previous years (or even that same season earlier), but in a 17 game fantasy season, often a guy like that will have 1 or 2 off games and you’ll end up holding him and by like week 3-5 it’s finally revealed he’s been playing hurt the whole time. r.quinn is a PERFECT example of this (last 2 years). i heard he’s being moved to outside LB now.

a good baseball comparison would be son of donald this year, if this was football you’d be killing yourself badly by holding him even for 4 weeks.

@Aubrey Plaza’s Pillow: Yeah, it’s pretty unfortunate that I can’t combine IDP rankings within my other rankings just to see how they flesh out. I should definitely bring that up next time they ping us rankers on functionality.

Still taking Mike Williams with the 6th pick in a rookie dynasty draft, given news that he may miss the entire year? Draft has unsurprisingly gone Fournett, Cook, McCaffrey, Mix, Davis so far.

@Curtis Jones: oh neato, something to compare to mine (just started, fornette only one gone thus far)

    • Jay

@Curtis Jones: yeah, that’ll be updated soon. Shame on that, was really wanting to see how he would work with that group.

      • Curtis says:
        (link)

@Jay: I went ahead and pulled the trigger. We have 1.11 as well, but I think I’ll use it to supplement our WR core for this year (we can draft FAs as well). We have Jordy and Landry, then Tyler Boyd, then 2 guys we will probably cut (Inman and Strong). Pierre Garcon and Adam Thielen are FAs and eligible to be picked with rookie draft picks.
