Putting together weekly rankings is not an exact science by any means, but I hope that it reflects my best thinking on who to start over who and how I would pick a team in a salary cap league or the like.
I will keep these updated as the week goes on. There shouldn’t be a ton of movement with the QBs, but RBs and WRs, which are on the way, (or here, depending on when you read this) will probably move with the rhythm of the injury report. Because, as you know, the rhythm is eventually gonna getcha.
Before we move onto the rankings be sure to check out our weekly QB/RB/WR contest. It’s a moral imperative!

I suddenly have more time to devote to fantasy football, and I have a quick question. In a .5 PPR league, would you rather draft in the 4 and 17 slots, or the 8 and 13 slots. I assume the 4 would yield either MJD or Rice. The 8 is much murkier. . . maybe Brees or Rodgers, SJax or Gore, Wayne or Fitz. On the other hand, 13 is more likely to yield a top WR than 17.
I can swap spots today or stay put. Thoughts?
Thanks.
I’d like the 4 if I can get Rice/MJD.
Yo yo… non PPR 12 team, keep 2…how’s this team tickle you? Not nuts about Kolb, but QBs went early.
90 Kevin Kolb, Phi QB
7 Andre Johnson, Hou WR
31 Marques Colston, NO WR
79 Malcom Floyd, SD WR
18 Ryan Mathews, SD RB
42 Arian Foster, Hou RB
Flex
55 Ahmad Bradshaw, NYG RB
66 Brent Celek, Phi TE
162 Patriots D/ST, NE D/ST
175 Robbie Gould, Chi K
Bench:
103 Johnny Knox, Chi WR
114 Cadillac Williams, TB RB
127 Jabar Gaffney, Den WR
138 Mohamed Massaquoi, Cle WR
151 Roy E. Williams, Dal WR
@Iceman: Your team looks A LOT like the one I drafted on Sunday. Only big difference is that I took two QBs back to back and got stuck with a way shittier TE:
1. (8) Andre Johnson
2. (17) Ryan Mathews
3. (32) Jahvid Best
4. (41) Steve Smith (Car)
5. (56) Ahmad Bradshaw
6. (65) Hakeem Nicks
7. (80) Joe Flacco
8. (89) Jay Cutler
9. (104) Brandon Jacobs
10. (113) John Carlson
11. (128) Rashad Jennings
12. (137) Owen Daniels
13. (152) Leon Washington
14. (161) Bernard Berrian
15. (176) Miami
Good luck to us both!
Doc : Would you grab any of these defenses for a match-up this week?
Titans
Browns
Broncos
Falcons
Chargers
i’ve got (i think) a serious depth issue in a non ppr league @ wr. i’ve got fitz and marshall as my starters with bowe as my only bench wr. i’ve got c johnson and mathews as my starting rbs, and have portis, cadillac, and mike bush on my bench. is it worth dropping one of those 3 for a guy like naanee? i’ve got one wr/rb starting slot and i’m wondering if it’s worth the gamble on naanee
In one of my dynasty leagues, I have James Davis as a rookie pick from last year. Would you keep him over any of these RBs:
Moreno
Sproles
McCoy
My starting RBs are Mendenhall and Rice. Standard scoring except we get 2 pts. for every 9 receptions (I know, who came up with that?). I’m thinking I stand pat, as we can only roster 5 RBs and Sproles has value because of the modified PPR rules.
Thanks for any input.
Who are we liking for a speculative sleeper play?:
Peyton Hillis
James Davis
Rashad Jennings
Brandon Jackson
I might actually be leaning towards Jackson a bit, as concussions tend to have a huge effect on RB’s seasons (see Westbrook’s 2009 and it’s effect on McCoy’s value last year) and Jackson is the clear-cut #2 on a good offensive team who has received a vote of confidence from his coach recently. What do you think?
@Iceman: Looks really stout. Knox that late is a steal. Really like your depth for a 12 team league.
@Pepe Silvia: Yeah, like your starters a lot.
@Mr2Bits: I like Denver for a long term play.
@Ivar Anderson(aka johnwhorfin): Agreed. I would stick with what you have.
@Calogero: Yeah, B Jax has looked good too. I’d lean that way.
What do you guys think of this team? 10 man, PPR (tried to strengthen other positions early so had to reach for a QB late)…
QB (88) Jay Cutler
RB (8) Michael Turner
RB (28) Jamaal Charles
WR (13) Randy Moss
WR (33) Steve Smith (CAR)
FLEX (53) Mike Sims-Walker (looking like it might be Arian Foster now…)
TE (48) Jermichael Finley
D/ST (93) Dallas
K (148) David Buehler (DAL)
BENCH
(68) Terrell Owens
(73) Arian Foster
(108) Lee Evans
(113) Michael Bush
(128) Ben Roethlisberger
(133) Mike Williams (TB)
Hey, Doc… looking forward to another awesome season.
How do you feel about post-draft, pre-season trades? I am pretty dead-set against them, because I don’t like to tinker too much, but I just gor offered Shonn Greene and Anquan Bolden for ADP in a 3-WR league. That would leave me with Greene and Benson as starting RBs and Megatron, Jennings and Bolden as my WRs (putting Garçon on the bench).
Your thoughts?
@Doc: I am trying to decide between Matt Ryan and Stafford in a 16 team league this week. Any reason you have Stafford so low? He had a decent game @CHI last year (296, 1 TD, 1 INT, 20 Rush yards), the Bears D isn’t particularly scary, and I see that game being a shootout. Is the weather supposed to bad?
@Doc and all,
12 team, PPR league, 7th pick. Any thoughts?
QB – M. Ryan
RB1 – F. Gore
RB2 – J. Charles
WR1 – R. White
WR2 – M. Crabtree
TE – J. Finley
Flex – R. Williams (Mia)
K – D. Buehler
DEF – Chi Bears
Bench:
D. McFadden
S. Moss
TJ Housh
L. Johnson
B. Roethlisberger
J. Cotchery
G. Tate
B. Westbrook
@matt: If you have those three wideouts, why carry another? You would start Marshall & Fitz, then use Bowe or one of your backs in your flex spot, correct?
If one of your WRs gets hurt, then move Bowe to WR and a RB to flex. My point is, at what point would you ever use Naanee, and is his upside better than those backs?
12 team/non-ppr/4th pick – thoughts? Drop a rookie QB and pick up another Def? Titans?
QB – Kolb
RB1 – MJD
RB2 – Ryan Grant
WR1 – Roddy White
WR1 – Nicks
WR/RB – LeSean McCoy
TE – Daniels
K – Tynes
Def – Broncos
Bench:
Vince young
Sam Bradford
Max Hall
Marshawn Lynch
Santana Moss
Mike Williams
Jacoby Jones
Early Doucet
@Spike Spiegal: Agree that you should go with Foster there. I like it. JC and JC are the riskiest and I like them both.
@eldee: I’m sticking with ADP there. Im ok with trading at anytime, but in the preseason you should trade out of desperation.
@DonSlaughtOnslaught: It’s his inconsistency. He did have a good game, but didn’t have Peppers after him either. And he has 5 TDs to 11 picks on the road so far in his career. I think he’ll be good, just waiting on him.
@Plainville: I’d stick with Denver for now.
What 2 would you rather have:
Hester, Housh, Mike Williams TB
@Dominic: Hester/Williams
I’m torn at who to start at my FLEX spot. It is a 12 team H2H PPR league. I could play…
RB Cadillac vs. the Browns
QB Stafford vs. the Bears
WR Floyd vs. the Chiefs
I could see Cadillac tearing up the awful Browns D so I’m leaning toward him but could see an argument for either of the other 2. Thoughts?
@rollie: Yeah, if you don’t play Caddy at home against the Browns you’re never going to play him.
@Doc: Need 1 player out of these 4 for my flex (1 pt PPR): Hartline, Naanee, Scheffler and James Jones…which one do I roll with for week 1?
thanks Doc
Sit one of Charles, Best, or Ahmad?
Thanks.
@Fletch: Naanee
@Scott: Ahmad
OK, I’ve asked a few different versions of this question, but this one is more direct. As a pure end-of-roster flier –
Do I drop Devin Thomas for Brandon Jackson?
@Calogero: I like Jackson’s upside. DT will be more of a replacement player.
@Doc: drop mason for mike williams sea?
@doc : 10-team PPR league
QB Flacco
WR DJax
WR Steve Smith NYG
WR Bowe
RB Gore
RB Matthews
TE Celek
Flex Arian Foster
K Hartley
Defense Minn + Balt
Bench
malcolm floyd
michael bush
mike williams TB
Big Ben
Leon Washington
I’m leaning toward not starting flacco this week @ NYJ but not sure who to add and who to drop. Was thinking one of leon, big ben, or minn D (not starting this wk vs NO). The best available QBS are palmer and orton.
Should i drop someone for a QB or just sit tight w flacco?
@doc: forgot to mention this is a return yards league (30yds/pt, 8pts/td)
@sal: I’d keep Mason.
@jaw: I would stick with Flacco.
Who to start–Pick 2:
Pierre Thomas, Matt Forte, or Beanie Wells
I took a leap of faith in my PPR league with Crabtree and traded for him and Witten in exchange for Marshall and H Miller.
Did I make the right call?
@Foo Foo: Not a bad trade. Marshall has more upside, especially in PPR. The gap between Witten and Miller is wide, but with TE’s it’s usually not too wide.
@Caprice: Forte/Wells (if Wells practices without restrictions)
Why, it’s the drunk piano player. You’re so drunk, you can’t hit nothin’. In fact, you’re probably seeing double.
Oh no, Doc. I guess I didn’t explain myself well. I was the one who traded Marshall away. I figure in PPR Witten will crush Heath Miller at tight end. Marshall is a Top 10 WR for sure but I think Crabby is primed for a breakout and could finish in the Top 15-20.
@Foo Foo: Ah, sorry. It’s getting late. I think it’s fair, but I would lean toward getting the best player in Marshall.
No problem. I figure most people think I overpayed but I am loving Crabtree this year.
It’s close, but just because Jacksonville’s secondary is awful and Carolina’s is awesome I think I’ll take Kyle Orton over Eli this week. We will see though.
Hey Doc, 2 questions regarding week 1 lineups in a H2H 1 PPR league. We have 2 offensive flex spots in a 12 team league. Who do you think is a better start, Donald Driver vs Phil or Kellen Winslow vs CLE. Also, my RB 2 is Moreno and I am nervous about his injury as well as his matchup JAX, would it be better to go with one of my backups, Hightower vs STL or Fred Taylor vs Bengals. If Beanie is out I am going Hightower, but I have heard nothing on his status yet. Any help would be great, thanks
@Doc: Which 2 of these 3 do you like for week 1: Jacoby Jones, Marlcolm Floyd or Steve Smith (NYG)?
Forte or Bradshaw for week 1?
@Billy Clanton: I’ve got a gun for each of ya.
@genghis chone: Yeah, the matchups point you that way, but you always have to temper that with other factors.
@Moose Knuckles: I’d go with Driver. ARodg will get him the ball. I like Hightower even if Beanie is playing. That STL run D is pretty bad.
@Fletch: Floyd and Forte
You have Orton ranked ahead of Flacco this week. Is it close or should I start Orton over Flacco with the addition of Housh.
@mike: It’s really close, but I like Orton’s upside against a bad Jags pass D.
Doc, who should i start i got Brady vs Cincy and Cutler vs Detroit? @ TE i got Finley @ Philly or Winslow vs Cleavland? what do you think?
@romo: Finley for sure. I love Cutler’s upside against Detroit, but you gotta play your studs. Go with Brady.
