As they counted down the ball drop in Times Square this year, I sat at home alone—balls of my own in hand—contemplating whether I’d rather own Justin Herbert or Tyreek Hill in a dynasty league which allows me to start two quarterbacks. As I slurped Champagne out of a bowl (I broke every glass in my house when all of my fantasy teams lost in week 15), all of the answers came to me in a rush of drug induced clarity. I began scribbling names down on napkins like some mix of Russell Crow in A Beautiful Mind and Charlie from It’s Always Sunny. Below you’ll find the superflex dynasty answer key I compiled on that fateful New Year’s Eve. I already went over all on the non-quarterbacks on this list over the past couple weeks when I gave you my top 10 and top 20 dynasty rankings for 2021 fantasy football 1-QB leagues. So if you’re interested in my convoluted thoughts on those players then click the links that litter this entire list! Anyway, here’s the top 25 superflex dynasty rankings for 2021 fantasy football:
*note: these rankings are geared toward two QB/superflex, half PPR, full fledged dynasty leagues
Rank. Player | Position | Age on 9/1/2021 | Free Agency Year
Tier 1
1. Patrick Mahomes | QB | 25 | 2032
Went over him in the top 20 dynasty rankings for 2021 fantasy football.
Tier 2
2. Kyler Murray | QB | 24 | 2024
I was tempted to put Murray in the same tier as Mahomes but once I emptied my New Year’s champagne bowl and the mushrooms started to wear off, it hit me that Mahomes’ game is a lot safer bet for the next decade. My only real concern with Kyler is health after his shoulder and then ankle injuries really hampered production for parts of this season and derailed my championship runs. But even with the injuries he was still only a handful of points shy of claiming the top fantasy QB spot in 2020, and the fantasy ceiling might be higher than anyone to ever play the position.
3. Lamar Jackson | QB | 24 | 2023
2020 was a down year for LJax, but any questions about whether 2019 was pure anomaly were answered down the stretch as he averaged 27 fantasy points over the final five weeks. Many will be quick to point out that speed doesn’t usually age well, which is fair, but both Murray and Jackson are only be 24 next year so we have time before crossing that bridge. Lamar doesn’t have anywhere near the arm of Kyler, and the wheels are a shade below too, but he also hasn’t missed a game to injury in two seasons.
Tier 3
4. D.K. Metcalf | WR | 23 | 2023
Went over him in the top 10 dynasty rankings for 2021 fantasy football.
5. Christian McCaffrey | RB | 25 | 2024
Went over him in the top 10 dynasty rankings for 2021 fantasy football.
6. Josh Allen | QB | 25 | 2023
I ranked Allen #6 in my 2019 dynasty quarterback rankings, I’m a genius! Alright, so don’t look too close at the Carson Wentz and Sam Darnold rankings. At this point it’s pretty obvious Josh Allen is a fantasy beast. Not only has he scored 25 rushing touchdowns over the past three seasons, but now he’s become more than respectable in the passing game. Plus Stefon Diggs is at his disposal for at least the next three seasons. Frankly, there’s a decent argument for moving Allen up to tier 2.
7. Deshaun Watson | QB | 25 | 2026
How high would Watson be on this list if he wasn’t saddled with the inept Bill O’Brien for the first 4 years of his career? #2? #1? Heck, he might be in that discussion if only B.O.B. had been let go prior to shipping Hopkins out of town last offseason in exchange for two rolls of single-ply. Even without DHop, and missing Will Fuller for half the season, Watson still posted a career high 33 passing touchdowns this year while continuing to contribute in the ground game. I didn’t even realize he led the league in passing yards (4,823) until I sat down to write this. He’ll still only be 25 years old in 2021, which could be the year Watson returns to the tier of elite fantasy QB’s while enjoying a more stable environment (hopefully).
Tier 4
8. Justin Herbert | QB | 23 | 2025
This kid just dusted Baker Mayfield’s rookie passing touchdown record with 31 TDs (Mayfield had 27) and Carson Wentz’s rookie completions record with 395 (Wentz had 379) and fell only 39 yards shy of breaking Andrew Luck’s 4,374 passing yards as a rookie. He did all this while throwing only 10 interceptions—four less than Mayfield and Wentz and eight less than Luck in their respective rookie seasons. Herbert also completed over 66% of his passes, the highest mark of the quartet. Incredible feats and I’m feeling a little silly for not ranking him higher as I type this all out. Fine, I just moved him up five slots from #13. Happy? No, I’m still drinking cheap champagne out of a bowl and now I’m talking to myself in written words. But back to Herby: while I do have a bias for dual-threat fantasy QBs, some pure passers are just too good to ignore (See: Mahomes, Patrick). The only thing keeping my excitement under control is that the players who’s records he just smashed either a) retired way early due to chronic injury, b) were demoted this year or c) are named Baker Mayfield. Rookie passing records don’t mean everything, especially in the modern-hyper-pass NFL, but Uncie Herb is very impressive nonetheless.
9. Dak Prescott | QB | 28 | 2021
The obvious questions surrounding Dak are the healing of his gruesome broken leg and the contract. If it weren’t for those unknowns, he’d likely find himself at #4 on this list after following up a phenomenal 2019 season with an equally incredible first four games of 2020. I expect that leg heals just fine and Jerry ponies up a few Bitcoin to extend Prescott after franchising him again in 2021. But there’s enough uncertainty for me to bump him down here to #8. Plus he’s a few years older than the QBs above.
10. Tyreek Hill | WR | 27 | 2023
Went over him in the top 10 dynasty rankings for 2021 fantasy football.
11. A.J. Brown | WR | 24 | 2023
Went over him in the top 10 dynasty rankings for 2021 fantasy football.
12. Dalvin Cook | RB | 26 | 2026
Went over him in the top 10 dynasty rankings for 2021 fantasy football.
Tier 5
13. Jalen Hurts | QB | 23 | 2024
Soooo I’m watching the Eagles/Redskins Sunday night game as I type this and Hurts just got pulled for Carson W—nope, that’s Nate Sudfeld! What in the name of Dr. Zaius is Doug Pederson doing?! I’m going to guess he’s just f’ing with the Giants while protecting the health of his young QB in a meaningless game. It’s also very important to know whether Sudfeld is your backup QB of the future (sarcasm). I know this is an aggressive and possibly reckless ranking, but reckless is the holy name bestowed to me by my guru/cult leader and I have a weakness for dual-threat quarterbacks; Hurts’ legs are the real deal. Does he have some room to grow in the passing department? Of course. But plenty of pundits were writing Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen off for the same reasons. When will they learn?
14. Joe Burrow | QB | 24 | 2025
One of the great tragedies of 2020, other than the entire year 2020 itself, was the week 11 Joe Burrow knee injury. The number one pick was on pace for 422 completions, 4,300 passing yards, 21 passing touchdowns and only 8 interceptions, with a 65% completion rate. Not far off of Herbert’s numbers in a far inferior system. If we plug Burrow into the Chargers offense, odds are high that he’s the one breaking all the rookie records. Herbert was never sacked more than three times in a game while Burrow was sacked eight times in one game, seven times in another and four times in two other contests. The main reason I don’t have Joe Donkey ranked higher is the concern that this injury limits his rushing production moving forward, which was a huge part of his fantasy appeal. There’s also a chance we don’t see this kid until late in the 2021 season and I’m not the most patient of dynasty players. Bah, I knew I shouldn’t have traded six first rounders for Aaron Rodgers two weeks ago!
15. Davante Adams | WR | 28 | 2022
Went over him in the top 10 dynasty rankings for 2021 fantasy football.
16. Russell Wilson | QB | 32 | 2023
Dangeruss looked like a world beater for the first seven games of 2020, airing it out for 26 touchdowns. But for the second straight season his fantasy production fizzled in the second half. So what happened? Could he be hiding a second half injury? Maybe. That was my first thought. But the change in play calling coincided with two things: 1) Russ threw four interceptions in weeks 9 and 10 (games which they ultimately lost) and 2) the Seahawks defense woke up around that same time. Petey Sunshine is notorious for having a low tolerance for turnovers and their improved defense gave Seattle the luxury of a ground and pound gameplan. How confident are you that the script with be flipped for the 32 year old in 2021? I’m not super confident myself and I’ve started to second guessing my D.K. ranking over the past couple weeks.
17. DeAndre Hopkins | WR | 29 | 2025
Went over him in the top 10 dynasty rankings for 2021 fantasy football.
Tier 6
18. Saquon Barkley | RB | 24 | 2023
Went over him in the top 10 dynasty rankings for 2021 fantasy football.
19. Alvin Kamara | RB | 26 | 2026
Went over him in the top 10 dynasty rankings for 2021 fantasy football.
20. Jonathan Taylor | RB | 22 | 2024
Went over him in the top 10 dynasty rankings for 2021 fantasy football.
21. Nick Chubb | RB | 25 | 2022
Went over him in the top 20 dynasty rankings for 2021 fantasy football.
22. Justin Jefferson | WR | 22 | 2025
Went over him in the top 20 dynasty rankings for 2021 fantasy football.
23. CeeDee Lamb | WR | 22 | 2025
Went over him in the top 20 dynasty rankings for 2021 fantasy football.
Tier 7
24. Stefon Diggs | WR | 27 | 2024
Went over him in the top 20 dynasty rankings for 2021 fantasy football.
25. Michael Thomas | WR | 28 | 2025
Went over him in the top 20 dynasty rankings for 2021 fantasy football.
