Our word of the day is gambling.  I love gambling, most of the time in small amounts unless I’m at the black jack table at 3 A.M. after my second trip to the ATM, but that’s a story for another time.  Plus, I was much younger then (if you consider two years ago a long increment of time).  When not gambling after consuming a bunch of whiskey, it’s usually a few bucks here and there on March Madness, NBA playoffs, or the reason why you’re reading this, the NFL.  When I’m making money gambling on sports, 75 percent of the time it’s because I’m betting against the public.  Fantasy football isn’t much different…

After two straight Superbowl appearances, the NFC South is coming up faster than that lady from The Leftovers and this past season of Fargo.  Yes, I know her name is Carrie Coon, I didn’t have to google it, and she’s become my favorite actress.  Some of you already know that I think that the Leftovers is the best show ever made, but I’m also impressed that Fargo was able to pull off another good season for the third straight year.  Fargo has a built-in setting, but coming up with a different cast, story line, and ending every year and doing it well blows my mind.  To put it in perspective it only took a second season for True Detective to suck at the same format.  Well, I guess it didn’t “suck”, the acting was awesome.  I’m one of the few who bought into Vince Vaughn in his role.  The story was a snoozer, I can’t defend that part.

Before we get into our second division preview, be sure to check out Zach’s preview of the AFC East.  Zach will be covering the AFC while I cover the NFC.  Also, we must rejoice that Jay has returned to give you his rankings and predictions for the 2017 season.  Zach and I are going to try and record a podcast every week to get you ready for the football season.  We plan on having a few surprise guests, but most of it will just be us two talking shop.

Even though I’m not one to pat myself on the back (actually, I am), Razzball has been on an upward curve, bringing some sort of conglomerate synergistic metamorphosis (as they say in the corporate world), providing you an ever-improving ranking accuracy year after year. How do we do it? No clue. It could be dark wizardry. It could be indigestion. It could even be your mother. But I have to admit, this year is going to be daunting, if only because the expectations we’ve placed on ourselves here at Razzball Football are at an all time high (just like my college years). Going from 31st overall to 22nd in Weekly Fantasy Football accuracy is one thing. But going from 22nd to the top-10 in the entire nation last season is quite another. And then on top of that, to finish third overall in our Draft Rankings last year… well, it’d be folly to try and say “Yes, we’re going to try even more, (more better if you believe in remedial English)”, but yeah, I’m going to say it… We’re going to do more better. (My English teacher just placed a bounty on me.) With that said, and my parentheses key broken, here are your 2017 Fantasy Football Defense & Special Team Rankings

Hello everyone, and welcome to Razzball’s Fantasy Football 2017 Division Previews. On this piece, we’ll take a look at this year’s AFC East. In past offseasons, we’ve seen many versions of the same headline: “Watch Out Patriots, Dolphins/Bills/Jets Are The New Team To Beat”. And while we haven’t seen that storyline yet, this is a division that moved in the right direction as a whole. It’s good to see that just for football in general. There are a lot of fantasy storylines and scenarios to dive into, so let’s get right to it…

Hello everyone, and welcome to the second post my mini-series on talking about each different position before the start of NFL Training Camps in a month and a half or so from now. Again, something to keep in mind, this is by no means a draft plan, or any sort of in-depth analysis about each position, as those articles will come out later in the summer during the camps themselves, but rather, a series of articles that can get the ball rolling towards the 2017 fantasy season.

I’ll be moving away from the structure of the”Players I Like and Players I Don’t Like”, and move towards an open discussion on my feelings about the position as a whole.

So enough chatter, let’s get right to it!

It’s about time we wipe, scrape, and any other action one does to remove dust (probably more wipe than scrape, because if you’re scraping, that’s not dust man) from the place I call home: Razzball Football. Now that we’ve finally reached our own Fantasy Football preseason schedule, we should take a short time to reflect on what was your prototypical offseason… which was basically a draft, a free agency period, and then a great NFL black hole of nothing happening that sucks space-time so hard, I sometimes think about astrophysics when jacking off. (Coincidentally, this is also how I describe the time in between Game of Thrones seasons.) In what is probably one of the biggest slogs in any sport, the NFL offseason is now behind us and we can start talking about the important things in life. Like Rankings. Draft Strategy. Team previews. Real content! And yeah, jacking off. Which is also, technically, content. Regardless, the first order of business are our Rankings and here’s how it’ll all play out, just so you plan your life accordingly! And when I say your life, I really mean my life…

Welcome Back to our 4th episode as we start to get the audio ball rolling. I was on vacation with the family over the fourth so Zach did a segment with everyone’s favorite, Tehol Beddict.

At the beginning, we cover the news, then we get into Zach’s quarterback article and I give him some input and we found out that we think the same way in our quarterback drafting strategies.

We didn’t record an outro because #productionvalue so you can find us on twitter here and here. Enjoy!

After an extended hiatus, due to soul searching summer travels, me and Zach return for a podcast that was recorded on two separate nights over the past couple of weeks so beware of #productionvalue.

I rambled a lot about missing out on Ezekiel Elliot last season while gushing over Joe Mixon’s fantasy potential. We don’t condone domestic disputes, but we condone fantasy production. We try to decide what a healthy Sammy Watkins can do for Tyrod Taylor. We also bring up Browns quarterbacks and Jeremy Maclin.

Hello everyone, and welcome to the first article in a series of position-by-position analysis before Training Camp arrives in a about a month. We’ll start off with the QB position, a position, unlike previous years, where there are many options that can leave us satisfied, while few that will make us feel sick. This is a good thing that means we can spend most of our research on assessing the HB and WR positions for the upcoming year, but it’s still important to figure out the path we want to take when choosing our gunslingers.

Below, I’ll be profiling my favorite options from this group while also weighing Strength-of-Schedule and any offseason changes or impacts from the draft. Then I’ll go over the options that I want to stay away from this year.

Let’s get to it…

After the Jets cut Decker on June 12th after failing to find a trading partner and option, we knew it would only be a matter of time before he landed somewhere. And here we have it, as Decker signed with Tennessee a few days ago in a contract of 1 year for $5.35 million.

Almost immediately, Decker seems to love the fit, calling his union with the Titans a “perfect storm”. I can’t help but agree.

There are a lot of things to take away from this move and how it impacts Tennessee’s offense.

First off, let’s look at the addition of Decker to this Titans offense. Decker can now finally get into an offense that features a firm QB situation at the helm with 3rd-year arm Marcus Mariota. No more are the days of receiving passes thrown by the aging Ryan Fitzpatrick or the wildly inconsistent Geno Smith, or even the possibility of Bryce Petty or Christian Hackenberg. Hell, I would rather have Tennessee’s backup in Matt Cassel over these other options currently.

Decker can fit into the offense in more ways than one, and aside from the fact that Mariota does a very good job at spreading the ball around to his guys, we can assume that Decker will find a huge role in the redzone, and more importantly, in the slot, where he played most of his snaps in during the 2016 season. Mariota was also a fantastic QB in the redzone, where Decker was very active in during the ’16 season as well. These are things to get excited about, and to focus on during the season.

Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor aren’t the only ones getting overpaid to disappoint us this upcoming fall (More on this and much more next week when Tehol graces us with his presence on the Razzblitz podcast).  Jeremy Maclin, who was recently released by the Kansas City Chiefs, has been signed by the Baltimore Ravens to a 2-year deal that will pay him 6 million this upcoming season.  The other team involved in the sweepstakes, the Buffalo Bills, either couldn’t or wouldn’t match.
