Apparently, Stefon Diggs pouted enough to get out of Buffalo. Did he do the same on his way out of Minnesota? I am not sure and only the parties closely attached to the situation will know. One thing I do know is (my opinion) is Diggs is rounding into a formidable WR-Diva ala Terrell Owens, Keyshawn Johnson, and dare I say, Antonio Brown. As much as I like the landing spot for Diggs, my concern, as a fantasy football writer responsible for the WR position, is the number of mouths to feed in the Texans offense. I am curious if the old pun ‘Houston we have a problem’ will rear its punny head or if Diggs will assimilate while acting as mentor for both Nico Collins and Tank Dell.
Since this is the first real breaking WR news since the Pittman extension, I feel it is incumbent upon me to update my 2024 rankings for the WR position. The other skill positions have been a tad more fun to watch develop. In fact, you can see the latest Running Back (Fantasy Football Running Back Rankings (razzball.com) and Quarterback (Fantasy Football Quarterback Rankings – Free Agent Frenzy (razzball.com) articles and rankings for free over at Home – Razzball Fantasy Football. Top Free Agent Wide Receivers
- Player: Stefon Diggs
- Predicted Landing Spot: TRADED – Houston Texans
- My Rank (2024 ECR): WR22 (WR25)
Diggs landing in Houston will be boom or bust. Will Diggs love the eight targets for 95 yards he receives in Week 1, or will he gripe about not getting 10 targets or a TD? Time will tell if Diggs loves the move to Houston or if he quickly wears out his welcome. I am not moving him up my rankings but have sent Tank Dell down from WR24 to WR35 based on the Diggs trade and the Dell injury status which we do not have a ton of information on today. I truly believe the biggest beneficiary will be Nico Collins. Fully healthy and with a rapport with CJ Stroud has me loving Collins at WR18.
- Player: Tee Higgins
- Predicted Landing Spot: Buffalo Bills
- My Rank (2024 ECR): WR23 (WR28)
I am still a little higher on Higgins than are the current ECRs. With that, and the fallout from the Diggs deal to Houston, I think Higgins will be dealt to Buffalo for a 2024 2nd Round pick (and maybe some other picks back-and-forth sprinkled in). Sitting near the bottom of the Top 24 WRs in my rankings is right where he belongs. He could rise a little should my trade prediction come to fruition. Imagine getting along with Josh Allen and being his WR1? That spells success for Higgins in my book.
- Player: Curtis Samuel & Khalil Shakir
- Predicted Landing Spot: SIGNED – Buffalo Bills
- My Rank (2024 ECR): WR53, WR60 (WR61, WR62)
If Higgins is not traded to Buffalo, I am excited about what Curtis Samuel and Khalil Shakir can do for my fantasy team. With that being said, neither is close to WR1 territory nor will either ascend to that level. Remember, it is not the first-round picks that win your league. Your middle round selections will often decide your fate and you can do worse than Josh Allen’s top two WR targets. In order to make space for Shakir in my Top 60, Elijah Moore has dropped below the cut-line with Jerry Jeudy dropping to WR56.
