Don’t be sad that the fantasy football season is over; be glad it happened in the first place. However, if you are among the many football enthusiasts who play dynasty-format fantasy football, you know the season never truly ends. So while we might be staring down the barrel of the NFL offseason, there’s plenty to be done as a dynasty manager.

Between now and the beginning of training camp is when champions are made. This week, Matt and I were joined by Andrew Cooper of Fantasy Alarm to give you our tiered tight end rankings and two tight end sleeper candidates you should be looking to acquire ahead of the season.

Tight End Tiers

Every analyst has fantasy rankings in one form or another. In this episode of Dynasty Diehards, we poured over the FantasyPros Dynasty ECR rankings. What did they get right? What did they get wrong? Who is a candidate to outperform their ranking?

Tier One

  • Kyle Pitts (ATL)
  • Mark Andrews (BAL)
  • Travis Kelce (KC)
  • T.J. Hockenson (MIN)

While there is plenty to discuss around these four bookends, their place in the first tier isn’t one of them. The real question is, who is the TE1 in this group?

Tier Two

  • George Kittle (SF)
  • Dallas Goedert (PHI)
  • Pat Freiermuth (PIT)
  • Dalton Kincaid (BUF)

Things get more interesting in tier two. While there is no debate from anyone that Dallas Goedert and George Kittle belong here, what about Patty Muth and rookie Dalton Kincaid? The case can be made that Freiermuth is still the second receiving option in Pittsburgh behind Diontae Johnson, but we have no clue what Kincaid’s involvement will be in the Bills’ offense.

He could be the second receiving option for Josh Allen, or he could end up nestled behind fellow veteran TE Dawson Knox.

Tier Three

  • David Njoku (CLE)
  • Evan Engram (JAC)
  • Sam LaPorta (DET)
  • Michael Mayer (LV)
  • Cole Kmet (CHI)
  • Chig Okonkwo (TEN)
  • Greg Dulcich (DEN)
  • Darren Waller (NYG)

The third tier of TEs is loaded with talent, some of which could jump into the second tier by the end of the 2023 season. Chig Okonkwo will likely be in line for a large target volume behind second-year WR Treylon Burks. The same goes for Sam LaPorta, who will step into a Lions offense without WR Jameson Williams for the season’s first six weeks.

Heading into his seventh NFL season, David Njoku is looking to live up to previous expectations in his second season with QB Deshaun Watson.

Tier Four

  • Dalton Schultz (HOU)
  • Isaiah Likely (BAL)
  • Luke Musgrave (GB)
  • Juwan Johnson (NO)
  • Gerald Everett (LAC)
  • Luke Schoonmaker (DAL)
  • Trey McBride (ARI)
  • Noah Fant (SEA)
  • Jelani Woods (IND)

Hello, mediocrity! Tier four is underwhelming, to say the least, highlighting the weakness of the position in fantasy football. No one in this tier will likely break out in 2023 except for Jelani Woods. Heading into his second NFL season, Woods could be the safety blanket for rookie QB Anthony Richardson and catapult himself into the tier-one conversation early on in the season.

Tier Five Sleepers

While the fourth tier is mostly a wasteland of middle-of-the-road talent, tier five has two players that could surprise everyone and finish the 2023 season as a top-12 TE. Who are they? Download the latest episode to find out!
