Notable Out Wide Matchups
Defense: Jacksonville Jaguars
Out Wide PPG Allowed: 1st
Week 8 START: Deebo Samuel
The 49ers are coming off the bye after losing three straight. The good news is that the bye week came at a great time for Deebo Samuel, who got in a full practice on Wednesday. This should immediately put him back into your lineups as they face off vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars allow the 2nd most points out wide and the 5th most yards after the catch per game. Smells like a recipe for success for Deebo!
Defense: Washington Commanders
Out Wide PPG Allowed: 4th
Week 8 START: D.K. Metcalf
After a stellar 2022 season, it has been a rough go of it for the Seahawks’ passing attack. Currently, both D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett sit outside the top 30 in PPR PPG for wide receivers. Heading into Week 10, both Metcalf and Lockett could get right, but especially Metcalf. This season the Commanders have struggled vs. top outside wide receivers. This list includes monster games from D.J. Moore, Drake London and A.J. Brown (twice). Based on lineup percentage, Metcalf looks like he will be the primary beneficiary making him an ideal WR2 this week.
Defense: New York Jets
Out Wide PPG Allowed: 32nd
Week 8 SIT: Davante Adams
The post-Josh McDaniels Raiders played inspired football last week, dominating the Giants across the board. However, that dominant performance didn’t translate into a big performance for Davante Adams, who only secured 4-34. As the Raiders look to lean on the run more and with rookie Aidan O’Connell at QB, it’s probably best to view Adams as a matchup-dependent WR2/3. This week vs. the Jets is not one of those matchups you want to start Adams. The Jets have allowed the fewest fantasy points out wide since Week 4.
Notable Slot Matchups
Defense: San Francisco 49ers
Slot PPG Allowed: 8th
Week 8 START: Christian Kirk
Even though he was drafted four rounds after Calvin Ridley, it is clear after the first half of the season that Christian Kirk is the WR1 for the Jaguars. Through the first eight games, Kirk leads the Jaguars in receiving yards and touchdowns. This production has made him the WR21 so far in 2023. This week he faces a 49ers team that has allowed the third most fantasy points overall and 8th most to the slot over the past six weeks.
Defense: New England Patriots
Slot PPG Allowed: 10th
Week 8 START: Josh Downs
We will need to monitor the injury to Josh Downs this week as he recorded a DNP heading into Week 10. If he begins to progress throughout the Week and is active Sunday, he makes for an ideal WR3 vs. a struggling Patriots DST. The Patriots seem to be in turmoil as rumors swirling around Bill Belichick continue for the first time in two decades. This dysfunction has led to the Patriots getting destroyed by wide receivers allowing the 5th most points overall and the 10th most to the slot.
Honorable Mention: SIT Garrett Wilson vs. the Las Vegas Raiders
Week 9 Recap
START Amari Cooper vs. the Cardinals – As Andy from the Office would say, “Nailed it.” Top five on the Week for Amari Cooper!
START Garrett Wilson vs. the Chargers– It was an ugly game for the Jets overall. This led to a lot of garbage time which was great for Garrett Wilson as he finished as the WR13 in PPR on the week.
SIT Zay Flowers vs. the Seahawks – I didn’t expect Zay Flowers to go 1-11 vs. Seattle, but I will take it.
START Rashee Rice vs. the Dolphins – Rashee Rice didn’t have a big game vs. the Dolphins. However, he found the end zone and finished as a WR3 in PPR.
START Demario Douglas vs. the Commanders – Demario Douglas could have had a much bigger day vs. Washington. He was able to secure 5-55, finishing as the WR27 in PPR on the week.
Score – 5 of 5
