Well, we’re here. Where is here you might ask? How very existentialist of you. I’m not sure if they call this “Draft Month”, but that’s what it is. And so I’ve taken all of my rankings and gone through them with a fine-tooth comb to bring you an updated list. Really, this achievement was pretty miraculous, seeing as how a comb really doesn’t help me do anything when dragging it across my computer screen. That being said, with the completion of my 2014 Fantasy Football Projections (release is imminent, that’s what she said), I was able to get a better picture of the ranking landscape, which probably still needs a koi pond and more shrubbery. Anyhow, everything could use a good tune-up once and while, sorta like your mother, so without further ado, here is the *Updated* 2014 Razzball Fantasy Football Rankings for Standard and PPR leagues…
Is there anyway to highlight risers and fallers?
Unfortunately, they don’t have an option for that. (Related, I’ll be going over the differences between my rankings and ESPN’s, Yahoo’s, etc. next week.) I will say that Vick Ballard did drop a few spots…
I have been following you the last couple of years and have a lot of faith in your rankings. I do noticeone uy that I highly question and would like for you to share your thoughts on why he is so high on your list. Ryan Mathews seems way to hg fo me being tat he will share a lot of his touches with Woodhead and Brown lus major injury concerns. Please explain why so much love for this guy ?
Thanks
@Brian: You should question it, as he landed higher in my rankings than I would have thought. I have him projected for 272/1301/11 and 31/196/0, which aren’t crazy if you take into account the first five week handicap discussed here: http://football.razzball.com/2014-underrated-ryan-mathews.
I’m not worried about Donald Brown, he’s more insurance than anything.
I NEED your help. The Ryan Mathews love you show is not something I question but it brings into question how to decide on my keepers. It’s a 12 team .5 PPR 2 keeper dynasty league where you lose the draft round listed next to the player. I won the league last year so I have the 12th pick. Every team has a 1st round pick.
M Forte – 2
G Bernard – 3
M Crabtree – 12
P Garcon – 2
S Vereen – 2
D Woodhead – 9
R Mathews – 4
Z Stacy – 10
Here are the players that will be available in the draft:
AP, Charles, McCoy, Megatron, Peyton, Dez, Demaryius, Green, Gio, Marshall, Foster, Cobb, Rodgers, Graham, Andre Johnson, Lynch, Garcon, Brees, Martin, Cruz and others.
My initial thought was to keep Forte (losing the 13th pick overall) and keep Stacy. Otherwise I would release Forte and have the 12th and 13th picks to potentially get Cobb and Graham lets say, while keeping two players with a lower draft round cost.
I’m confused. Looking at the players I can keep and the players available in the draft, who do you think are the two best options to keep? Any insight on why you choose the two you do will be helpful.
Thanks!!
@Ron: Looking at your list, I’m with you. I still like Forte at 2, there’s still value there, and Stacy at 10 is fantastic. I’m assuming you’ll still have that 12th pick in this scenario if I read that right? Let me know.
@Jay: Yes, I still have the 12th pick. Keeping Forte would cost pick#13 overall.
In our format you are only required to start 1 RB, 2WR and 2 flex spots (RB/WR and TE/WR). With that in mind, and Forte and Stacy as keepers which route would you take with the 12th, 36th, and 37th picks? Should I go WR with the 12th pick and go RB/WR with the next two? Or go Graham with 12th and WR/WR with next two?
I really appreciate the help!
@Ron: Okay, yeah, I would go Graham and then WR/WR, totally. Anytime!
@Jay: Jay, I have a LOT of teams all asking for a trade for Stacy since they would only lose a 12th round pick to keep him.
Here are the questions running through my mind:
1) What is the lowest round draft pick I should accept for Stacy?
2) Do you agree with trading him for a pick or is keeping him too valuable?
3) If I trade Stacy who would you keep along with Forte? Mathews for a 4th round pick? Crabtree for a 12th round pick?
Thanks again.
@Ron: Correction: Stacy would cost a 10th round pick not 12th.
@Ron: Yeah, I’d go Mathews in that case, but I really like Stacy this season. Unless you’re getting blown out of the waters, I’d say stick with him.
@Jay: That’s what I was thinking too. What’s the lowest draft pick you think I should accept for Stacy?
@Ron: Do you have any comps that have occurred in your league, to give me kind of the feel your league has on trading?
@Jay: There have been no trades so far this year and traditionally there aren’t many trades at all. Don’t know if this helps but I can add to the equation that time you get to keep a player is based on the round drafted.
Round 1 (No keepers allowed)
Rounds 2-3 (1 year max keeper)
Rounds 4-7 (2 year max keeper)
Rounds 8 on (3 year max keeper)
Don’t know if this helps but I think it adds to the value of Stacy…unless Tre Mason happens.
@Ron: I’m not worried about Tre Mason this year. Based on that, I want at least a prime piece that has a 4-8 round tag. Any targets you had in mind?
@Jay: You said I should atleast look to get a prime piece between rounds 4 and 8.
In this league we can trade draft picks so I’m thinking that I would be offered a draft pick for Stacy. How low a pick should I accept?
@Ron: Yeah, then the second round is the “lowest”… but I regard him as a first round talent, so that’s what I would aim for.
will we be getting some mock draft love from the mighty and magnificent Jay(wrong)? if so, when? if when, why? if why, why not? I’ve gotcha there.
@jake: I think you’ll be getting something from Tehol very soon on mocks. Stay tuned!
Jay – just wanted to get your thoughts on a quick keeper situation. My best options by far are Lacy for a 5th or Harvin for a 15th. I’m leaning strongly toward Lacy since it looks like I’ll have the 12th pick and there’s no way he’ll still be there, but I did stash Harvin all of 2013 for a reason. It’s a 12 team .5ppr league as well.
Thanks!
@Fritz: I think you have to go with Lacy here, despite holding on to Percy, which I think was still savvy.
@Jay: Thanks, man. That’s my plan.
Jay! Antonio Brown or J Nelson? Tough choice for me picking in 2nd round…thought on why u have Brown ranked 4 spots higher than Nelson? thanks
@Lou: I have Brown going 96/1311/8 and Nelson going 79/1201/9. In standard leagues, that’s only a six point difference, that grouping is just really close together and I wouldn’t argue if you wanted to flip them.
Sorry if my FFB ignorance is showing but I’m a novice.
What do the numbers next to the team name mean (eg: Min/10). I know I’m going to face-palm myself after hearing the answer.
I just drew the 11th pick in a 12 team non-PPR. So what am I looking at, some sort of Stacy/Bell/Lynch combo in rounds 1 and 2?
Worth getting laughed at by the rest of the league if I take Matthews that early?
@L-Boogie: It’s the team he plays for and their bye week.
MIN/10 = Minnesota and bye week 10
@Fritz: Forehead, meet palm.
@L-Boogie: Yeah, Fritz gotcha. Stacy/Bell seems like a good combo. The thing with my rankings, you want to use them as more of a gauge of where I see their value ending up. So while you probably shouldn’t draft Mathews in the first round, you should take him in the late-second or third round and expect those numbers.
Keep Spiller in the 3rd or Michael Floyd in the 15th?
@Don Majkowski: I’d personally go Floyd here, that value is fantastic.
Thanks for the Rankings! I need your advice-12 team keeper with some big name franchise players thrown back. keepers are(so far) QB Kapernik, RB’s Bernard,Leveon Bell and Martin(start 2),WR’s Marshall,VJax,Shorts..had to throw back TE Graham. Players available are Graham,P.Manning,J.Jones,Lynch,Morris,AJ Green,RG3,Cam…My question, do I drop Kapernik and Doug Martin to free up salary and target Peyton?? Or keep Kap,Bell and Bernard dropping Martin and target Julio or Graham?
@happyharry1958: No probs. Well, this might mess up your set up, but I’d rather throw back Kap and Benard and then try to go for a Graham or Julio. Not sure if that’s possible, but do what ever you need to do to get Graham back, or as a backup, get Julio.
In a 12 Team H2h Standard Y! League my RBs are – Lacy, Stacy, Tate, Pierre Thomas, Lamar Miller and DeAngelo Williams…..Would you drop Williams for Moreno? I usually don’t like to carry 2 RBs from the same team.
@SMLV1: I’m actually fine with this. Never thought highly of Williams, and there are obvious question marks with Moreno, I still like him a bit more.
@Jay: Moreno more?
@SMLV1: Hah, yeah, sorry to keep you on the edge like that.
@Jay: Your Good. Thanks Jay!
@SMLV1: anytime!
Hi Jay,
Please help. Need to select 2 keepers for PPR.
Brees
J Graham
Roddy white
K Allen
Cj spiller
Jordy Nelson
Ben Tate
Vereen
Decker
Hilton
Thanks!
@Big Ben 48: Graham, Jordy.
0.5 ppr. 8 teams. Need some advice. Right now I’m keeping Ellington (16th round pick) Doug Martin (15th round pick) and Lacy (4th round pick). Many of the picks in the first two rounds are going to be used on keepers, so I’d have the 3rd and probably 6th or 7th pick. That also means lots of the top talent is being kept. I could probably get some combo of Antonio Brown, Randall Cobb, and A. J. green with those two picks. OR, I could keep Dez with my 1st rounder (dropping one of Ellington, Lacy, and Martin as a keeper of course). I could also keep Mathews with a 9.
Thoughts?
I like having the choice of Brown and Cobb with the guys you have. Those are insane values.
@Jay:
Thanks! I’d actually have to trade Dez for Martin (and move up a few picks in the mid rounds). The trade is in place and all but assured, but if it fell through would you keep Mathews with the 9th over Dez?
It’s possible I’d get burned on those WRs but unlikely, and I’d definitely get one.
Preciate it
@CTapps: Probably, just to get that round savings. Matthews plus that first is much better than Dez plus a ninth rounder I’m thinking.
What up Jay. I like your rankings, but I have a question. 12 team H2H snake draft
I’m in a keeper league and I’m trying to decide between keeping either Gronk, Alfred Morris or Vincent Jackson.
The way our keeper system works is: the round that player was drafted in the year before must be forfeited in the next years draft.
I.e. I Drafted a Gronk in the 2nd, Vincent Jackson in the 5th and Morris in the 1st
I have to forfeit one of those rounds to keep that player.
I’m already keeping Russell Wilson(4th round) and Alshon Jeffrey(7th Round)
Which players value do you like the most with keeping in mind what round I have to forfeit in order to keep him.
Thanks dude. I have to make this decision by Sunday and it’s KILLIN’ me.
Based on that format, I would keep Jackson. I like that value in the 5th.
You have Brady a lot higher than most do, as a Pats fan I like it, for Fantasy purposes in a standard ESPN league what do you think his ceiling is for points? Lets so Gronk is healthy all year, you think Brady could easily get to 300 points?
I like Brady to have a bounce back this year. I have him down at 302.31 fantasy points this season. (394/624, 63.14%, 4459, 36/12)
Justin Hunter… Thoughts on his season this year? I have Kendall Wright as a cheap keeper in an auction league. If Hunter breaks out, does it have any bearing on your Wright ranking? (PPR)
I think in a Whisenhunt offense, all these guys are going to get enough targets to be fantasy relevant. He has a body of work that makes me a little bit excited about Jake Locker, and that’s crazy. But yeah, obviously I’m expecting a big step forward for Wright.
@Jay:
Another quick question… (Auction format, PPR, Kendall Wright, Joique Bell, Rueben Randle – all of my keepers, $3 each, $200 budget)
Im planning on going WR heavy with my money this year… In a PPR league do you think I would be okay with Bell as my RB2? Its a bit of a risk, but with the scheme change, I really like him.
@Bryce Krispie Treats: Yeah, I think you’ll be fine. Your budget room will carry the team.
Why is Gates so high??
@Swanny: While he’s fading a bit, he’s still high on the pecking order of targets, and is being underrated this preseason.
Here is a mock I did today using your rankings. Opinions are welcome. I picked 8th. Thanks!
1. Jimmy Graham (NO – TE)
2. DeMarco Murray (Dal – RB)
3. Antonio Brown (Pit – WR)
4. Ryan Mathews (SD – RB)
5. Michael Crabtree (SF – WR)
6. Michael Floyd (Ari – WR)
7. Chris Johnson (NYJ – RB)
8. Shane Vereen (NE – RB)
9. Reggie Wayne (Ind – WR)
10. Robert Griffin III (Was – QB)
11. Danny Woodhead (SD – RB)
12. Brian Hartline (Mia – WR)
13. New England (NE – DEF)
14. Mason Crosby (GB – K)
15. Maurice Jones-Drew (Oak – RB)
@Oliver: I have to say, I really like this team. Some risk at the RB position, but I like how the receivers turned out, and love Mathews in the fourth round.
I have been prepping for a yahoo league which is set up as an overall points league without head to head match ups. I choosing 5th overall out of 12 teams. QBs get 6pts for TDs but only one point for every 50yrds thrown! Also there is no flex spot, there is 3 WR positions you need to fill.
Would you recommend drafting Calvin at 5, go for one of the top 5 RBs there or draft Manning? I figure since I have to fill 3 WR I should go for the best WR available and pick from the middle class of RBs later in rounds 2-5
Agree or got any other strategy recommendations?
I think you’re fine with how you’re approaching it. I’d still want Megatron here, QB depth is great this season.
Hey Jay,
Love the articles and blogs. Your man crush on R. Matthews has me questioning which keepers I should choose. The league is a 14 team $300 budget with 4 keepers. Who would you keep? I can only keep 2 RBs
C. Spiller – $13 ( keeping him for sure)
R. Bush – $32
R. Mathews – $29
M. Stafford – $56
G. Olsen – $ 14
C. Shorts -$11
Besides standard scoring, the league also recognizes receptions as the following for both RB & WR:
1 pt for every 25 ReYds
2 pts for 5-9 Recepts
4 pts for 10-14 Recepts
6 pts for 15-19 Recepts…….etc
Is this called half PPR? Does this make a difference in deciding between Bush & Mathews as keepers since Bush is the better receiving RB?
Appreciate your advice Jay, and anyone else with any insight.
Bush only had more than 5 receptions in 4 games, even then, Mathews only had one, and Bush nearly doubled his reception total. In this format (not sure what to call it, maybe escalating PPR?), I’d lean Bush, but it’s still close.
So keep Bush & Spiller, what other 2 players do you think I should keep? Appreciate the advice!
Well, Greg Olson seems like a great value, so I’d keep him and the two RB’s. I think you could do better with the 56 tied into Stafford.
