I don’t honestly know what NFL week it is. The COVID related rescheduling has made week’s 12-14 seem like one long fantasy playoff missing night terror. For those of you with something left to play for I wish you good fortune in the wars to come. Hopefully you fight them with your players on the field.

  • From the “Roto-Wan wants to will it into existence” file this week: Jordan Akins is prime for a big game. He’s being treated like a WR lining up in the slot or out wide 41/71 snaps in the last two games. He has almost no production to show for it. Brandin Cooks just had his fifth concussion. Keke Coutee went off as he usually does against Indy and will surely ghost us this week. Akins could eat.
  • I wanted to write about Corey Davis so that AJ Brown goes ham this weekend (I have plenty of AJB best ball shares). Kidding aside, we’ve passed the point of writing Davis off as a fluke. Between the first-round picks both having 10 games played Davis leads in yards, catches, deep catches (20+ yards), and yards per route run. Until Tennessee fixes its defense in the off-season there will be elevated pass-catching opportunities and Davis will continue to benefit.

It was a dark and stormy morning. Aspiring fantasy writer Jerry Janiga sang the body electric at his typewriter, the words flowing through him. It was his fantasy football manifesto, “Catch Without Kickers.” He pulled out a notepad from his hotel drawer and quickly scrawled notes over its surface. Beneath the Holiday Inn Express branding, he sketched out his ideas for a winning team with Sam Darnold at quarterback.

It Was The Best Of Cams, It Was The Worst Of Cams

It was the best of Cams, it was the worst of Cams, it was the age of Akers wisdom, it was the age of Newton foolishness, it was the epoch of Akers belief, it was the epoch of Newton incredulity, it was the season of Akers Light, it was the season of Newton Darkness, it was the spring of Akers hope, it was the winter of Newton despair. It was certainly the spring of hope for Cam Akers’ owners Thursday night as the rook toted 29 carries for 171 yards and hauled in 2 catches for 23 yards. We speculated last week that Akers was taking the Rams’ backfield by the horns but even I didn’t expect the kid to out touch Darrell Henderson (2 carries for 5 yards) 31-2. Neither did the brilliant Pigskinonator, who was extra bullish on Akers this week ranking him #14 among RBs compared to the expert consensus of #25, but only projected him for 15 touches. The L.A. runner just might be a league winning RB1 down the stretch, at the very least he looks like a rock solid RB2.

Unfortunately, it was the winter of despair for Cam Newton owners as the “quarterback” went 9/16 for 119 yards, 7 carries for 16 yards and 1 interception before being bench for Jarett Stidham (5/7 for 27 yards). This game scared the Dickens out of anyone who happened to make the unwise decision to start Newton in their playoff matchup. Odds are this is Stidham’s team for the final three weeks. Add him up in superflex league and ignore him everywhere else. Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday for fantasy football:

I just snuck out of a court ordered gambling rehab facility to write this post, so I’ll have to be brief. After I was arrested for stealing old ladies’ purses from the retirement home down the block to fund my string of Arizona Cardinals’ Super Bowl wagers (a 50:1 lock!), the judge sentenced me to 6 month’s of in-patient rehab. Since I’ll be releasing my weekly fantasy football rankings each Thursday morning (except Thanksgiving week!) for the duration of the season, I’ve decided to throw in some bonus bold Thursday Night Football predictions along with my expertly handicapped pick for the contest:

Patriots (+6) at Rams

Forecast: I was walking down the street the other day eating a falafel pita wrap when I ran into none other than Bill Belichick taking his pooch for walk. To my surprise, Bill stopped me and told me eat Subway instead. I argued with him about the nutritional value in a Subway sub–they’re bread can no longer be legally called “bread” in Ireland. Then Bill suddenly cut the sleeves off my best dress shirt and whispered into my ear, “Bet on us to cover Thursday night and don’t start any of our running backs, ever.” He was gone as quickly as he appeared. It was a surreal experience. And who am I to go against sweatshirt Bill and his trusty dog?  Patriots 27, Rams 20

Back to review the crucial week 13 in the NFL, B_Don and Donkey Teeth mix up the order of the show and start with the many A**holes of the Week as we discuss some of the happenings from the week that was in the NFL. From player usage to coaching errors to refs to anything else that affected teams in week 13, we go over it all before we look into the #RazzBowl playoffs. 

There weren’t many big injuries in week 13 thankfully, but those teams that lost Antonio Gibson might disagree. We discuss the WFT RB situation and whether we think you can start anyone in that backfield. Speaking of messy RB situations, the Falcons have joined the ranks of teams utilizing RBs in such a way that ruins fantasy value for all of us. 

B_Don asks DT about his boy Baker Mayfield, and where he fits among QBs for the ROS. There was more QB talk than normal as it seems to be the biggest point of change to review. Jalen Hurts is going to get the nod for the Eagles over Carson Wentz. Kyler hasn’t quite been the same since the injury. Then, we look at a couple rookie QBs in Herbert and Tua to examine how we would use them in week 14 and for the rest of the season. One last thing, why isn’t Gardner Minshew starting?

Rest of Season Top 30 Quarterbacks: Playoff Edition

I woke up the other morning with visions of Flacco in my head. I went to the bathroom and looked at myself in the mirror. “You’re a Super Bowl winning quarterback with millions in your bank account, not the backup QB on a winless team that’s tanking! Go get ’em tiger!” I put on my Pumas and raced outside, not quite realizing it’s 15 degrees when I stepped out the door. Still, I ran. I ran like Rocky ran, sweat-banded and sweat-shirted. And when I cross the mile threshold, I told myself, “It’s three weeks until the fantasy championships! All your friends will validate you! They’ll say you’re handsome and smart and five years from now they’ll remember that Kirk Cousins brought you the fantasy championships!” I looked around, slightly crazed and slightly lost, and realized I was far from home. But aren’t we all. With Joe Flacco on my mind, I started to retrace my steps, one-by-one. Russell Wilson started strong. James Robinson was a fluke FAAB win that brought me to the playoffs. Derrick Henry surged through the defenses while Ryan Tannehill sliced secondaries. And all the while, Corey Davis grabbed first down after first down. There were so many Titans I couldn’t figure out if I was talking “Attack on” or “Remembering the.” But one thing stuck with me: it was the fantasy friends I made along the way. Rest of Season Top 80 Wide Receiver Rankings: Playoff Edition

Your WR top 80 14.0 is here!  This is a playoff specific edition of the WR ranks, with extra weight given to the next 3 matchups specifically. Nothing matters but the path ahead so a few players jumped up because of their schedule. Additionally guys who are currently injured might as well be off the list, although some are straggling around like Kenny Golladay, but there is no guarantee he’ll suit up for our fantasy teams.  

This list is not league or format specific, but it is based on 2020 rest-of-season projection only. When thinking through tiers and rankings I asked myself simply – “all things considered who would I rather have on my roster?”
