Rest of Season Top 60 Running Back Rankings: Playoff Edition

All season long, we’ve been grinding through the top-60 rest of season running backs. There has been a lot of turnover, an excess of movement both in and outside of the top-24, and a heck of a lot of injuries and COVID-19 to navigate around — both in the fantasy realm and the real world. But, alas, we’ve finally made it to Week 14. Hopefully, for many of you, this means the start of a successful playoff run, as Weeks 14-16 is when the vast majority of fantasy playoffs occur. For this very reason, I find myself feeling sentimental as I write this. At times, I led you stray, and at others, I did my job well. Now, as we leave the regular season behind and enter the postseason threshold, I have the opportunity to provide you with one last set of running back rankings as it relates to the 2020 season. In this final installment, I’ll be focusing on the set of matchups each running back faces over the next three weeks, as I’ve replaced the previous “bye” week component in the rankings with a look at each respective player’s “upcoming schedule.” And before you ask, yes — I do have David Montgomery ranked as a top-10 rest of season, fantasy playoff run option for that very reason, among others.

But before we get to the rest of that top 10, let’s take one final, albeit emotional trip around the league together. Feel free to bring a pack of Kleenex or, if you wish, simply deploy your own makeshift snot sleeve. Personally, I haven’t cried this hard since I said goodbye to my foreign exchange student in 10th grade. It was emotional. We played a lot of ping pong together. To fully appreciate this last ROS top-60 segment, I highly recommend playing the song “I Hope You Dance” by Lee Ann Womack. Blast it from the speakers as you digest the fickle words to follow.

Waiver Sherpa Week 14

Congratulations! If you’re reading this, I assume you made into your league’s playoff bracket. There’s not a lot of meat on the bone but hopefully you don’t need a ton of help from here on. However, if there are any holes to fill I might be able to help.

I group the adds by position and then within the position, rank them in order of preference. With the playoffs upon us, I have removed percentages of the FAAB. If you need any of these guys to start for your team, then spend what you need to spend. The sherpa will only advise players who are rostered in less than 50% of ESPN leagues.

Allen & Beasley Get It Done Easily vs 49ers

Are you into rap? If so, then I’m sure you’re already familiar with Cole Beasley’s prowess on the mic. What you might not know is that Beasley has been begging his buddy Josh Allen to record a single together, as a duo. After Allen went 32/40 for 375 yards with 6 carries for 11 yards and 4 passing touchdowns on Monday night, while dishing Cole Beasley 9 receptions for 130 yards and his 4th touchdown, the two white boys celebrated by finally recording their future hit single: Allen & Beasley Get It Done Easily. Look out for the jam on iTunes and Spotify shortly. As for their fantasy outlook as you move into the playoffs, Allen remains a must-start even against the tough Steeler defense next week and Beasley is a boom or bust WR3. Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday for fantasy football:

Pittsburgh Steelers 16-0 Odds Update

Where the 16-0 Steelers Would Rank

The Steelers are in a rare position to go 16-0 on the season. This opportunity does not come around often, as only 12 other teams in history have started with this record in the Super Bowl era. However, many experts and pundits still refuse to crown the Steelers the best team in the NFL right now. Many argue that the Chiefs or Saints deserve that honor. Even FiveThirtyEight, the analytical sports giant, has the Steelers ranked as the 17th out of 18 teams to begin 11-0-0, including teams pre-Super Bowl era.

It is safe to say that the Steelers are not demanding the respect that one would expect from a team that has yet to lose a game, 11 games into an NFL season. Especially a team that has beat out several winning teams such as the Browns, Titans, and Ravens. However, how likely is it that the Steelers finish the season with the perfect 16-0-0 record?

You Can’t Spell Lose For Lawrence Without Waller

So you know how I spend every Sunday morning hiding in the bushes outside Darren Waller’s bathroom just trying to sneak a peek? Well this week I saw something I shouldn’t have while lurking in the bushes. Jets head coach Adam Gase was having a secret meeting with Waller. I zipped up my pants and snuck closer to find out what they were saying. I heard Gase whisper, “We really need to lose for Lawrence today. Can you help us, Darren?” So I wasn’t at all surprised when Darren Waller exploded with 13 catches for 200 yards and his 6th and 7th touchdowns as the Jets narrowly maintained their winless pace and solidified their stranglehold on the number one overall pick. Waller is quickly closing the once massive Kelce gap. Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday for fantasy football:

The Shadow Coverage Report – Week 13

Historical Production vs. Shadow Coverage

Ok, let’s try this again! After Lattimore missed week 11 and Julio left early we still don’t have much to go on when these two play each other. Back in 2018 the Saints used Marshon Lattimore on Calvin Ridley and tried to double Julio with Eli Apple as the primary CB. Let’s just say that didn’t go well as Julio went for 11-147. In 2019 the Saints wised up and used Lattimore on Julio; however, Lattimore left the game early due to injury and only played half the snaps. Still Julio only finished with a modest 3-79 all of which came after Lattimore left the game.  Later in the year Julio missed the second game vs. the Saints so you see we truly don’t know how this matchup will pan out.

Week 13 Recommendation – WR3/Flex

With Julio dealing with another injury in 2020 it is hard to trust him as his usual #1 self in week 13. The good news for Julio is Lattimore has only shadowed Mike Evans in 2020 and with his counterpart Janoris Jenkins out the Falcons should be able to move the football more this week. Most fantasy teams won’t have the depth to fade Julio and with his career 13.4 PPG vs. shadow coverage, Julio should do enough to get the job done in season long leagues

DFS Recommendation – Price FD $8,000 / DK $6,600

Julio is priced as a top 8 option on FD making him a full fade at that price. On DraftKings you are able to get him at a reduced cost at roughly top 16 value, but even at that price playing on a bum wheel it might make him tough to trust. Players I would pivot to include Allen Robinson vs. DET and Adam Thielen vs JAX.

Top 25 Tight End Rankings: Week 13

Hope that you had a good Thanksgiving whether you spent it with family, friends, or relaxing at home. I’m back again this week to bring you another updated ROS TE rankings. Don’t forget to check out the master spreadsheet *here* for more information including ROS schedule strengths. Of course, after Thanksgiving comes Black Friday and Cyber Monday. 

 

Playstation 5

Kelce is the top TE and the PS5 (or the XBox Series X) are the top options this holiday season. Kelce has 65.8 more points on the season than the next TE, Darren Waller. Over the last 5 weeks, he has 36.1 more points than the next TE (Eric Ebron) despite having a bye week in that period. Kelce has a couple less than ideal match ups versus the Broncos and Dolphins the next 2 weeks, but then gets an average one vs. the Saints before a great one with the Falcons in your ‘ship week. BTW, yeah, I got a PS5 during one of the releases, YEAH BOY!

“All aboard!” Stevens called out, standing at the rear of a semi-truck he had been using to drive the RazzBowl tournament participants across the country for the last twelve weeks. He pulled out a clipboard, took a swig of his blue raspberry slurpee, and read names off a list. Such was the life of the #2 seed in the Razzbowl: always the 1.02, never the 1.01. 

“Jerry Jan–” Stevens started when he was interrupted by a hand shooting up out of the crowd. “HERE!” the voice shouted, its face covered by an Antonio Brown vintage helmet. The figure shoved forward, toward the Razzball trophy that sat un-loved on the asphalt. The figure rushed forward, grasping the trophy’s handle like a lover’s hand. The trophy was cold, its silver-lining frosted frosted from the morning mist in the mountains. “What have they done to you my precious?” the figure whispered through the mouthguard. 

“OK, Jerry, you’re sitting up front with me,” Stevens said. “Everybody else, you’ll be enjoying a free showing of Batman and Robin in the trailer. Now, let’s get the champions in! Next up, Will Weiler…” Stevens trailed off, ignoring the helmet-ed figure heading towards the cab of the semi.

That helmet-ed figure was, of course, not the Razzbowl #1 seed Jerry Janiga. Where Jerry was, nobody could quite tell. In the darkness that followed the hellscape that was Wednesday Afternoon Football in Week 12, the former #1 seed The Joey Wright had “dropped” Jerry from his “roster.”

Top 10 Dynasty Rankings for 2021 Fantasy Football

Last December when I released my top 25 and top 50 dynasty rankings for 2020, there were three rankings for which I was mocked most: Kerryon Johnson (way too high at #18, they scoffed), Joe Mixon (way too low at #26, they cried) and Juju Smith-Schuster (way too low at #50, they howled). Two for three would make me the best baseball player in the history of baseball, but in the game of fantasy football dynasty rankings it won’t fly. Also, I missed terribly on a bunch of other rankings including Fournette, OBJ and Hollywood. So now I must be held accountable and take responsibility for ranking my cousin Kerryon Johnson way, way, way too high last year. No excuses! No blame! Even though the freshly-fired-incompetent-coach/GM-duo of Matt Patricia and Bob Quinn seem like pretty good scapegoats—was it really necessary to spend an early 2nd round pick on D’Andre Swift AND sign Adrian Peterson AND not use your talented 23 year old RB Kerryon Johnson at all? Ah right, no excuses. But the sun was in my eyes last year when I was writing my rankings. So this year I brought in a ringer to keep me in check: Pat Fitzmaurice. Pat is currently sitting at #1 (out of 160 experts) in this year’s FantasyPros’ Ranking Accuracy Competition, he also finished #2 (out of 162 experts) in FP’s Draft Ranking Accuracy Competition in 2019 and he holds the title of #1 most accurate draft ranker from 2017-2019. In short, the man is a fantasy football ranking sorcerer and he was kind enough to record a YouTube show with me discussing each of our top 10s—subscribe and give us a like if you don’t hate it.  Anyway, here’s that show, followed by my top 10 dynasty rankings for 2021 fantasy football:
