As my NFL free agency series winds to a close this week – don’t forget to check out the running backs, wide receivers, and tight ends – it’s time to finish strong with some shiny diamonds in the rough. Which signings went completely under the radar? Who could break out in a major way in […]

My sincere apologies to all twelve of my readers for my lackluster effort in last week’s injury report article, where I clearly had no idea what I was doing. An eagle-eyed reader on Reddit pointed to my deficiencies, which were many, and indicated that he — I assume it was a he because he liked to participate in the Tinder subreddit — regretted giving us a click.

Razzball execs spent the past week discussing how we would manage without that 1/132nd of a cent of ad revenue that we would no longer receive. However, the “Blair has no clue” Zoom meeting ended early when FantasyPros returned their weekly ranks. Guess who topped the running back rankings in week 2? Oh, look, it me.

Welcome to the Blurbpocalypse, a portmanteau so clumsy that it finally killed the word “Listicle.” We killed a word that has haunted the internet since the very beginnings of time (My kid still can’t conceive of the small portion of my early childhood where every home didn’t have computers/tablets/phones, so I’ve given up explaining the Internet-less world. Zounds, olde fowlkes must ha’e been sinfully bored, what wit the lack o’ 5G)! The aforementioned Blurbpocalypse happens twice a year, once in the MLB and once in the NFL, at the beginning of each league’s season. Teams finalize rosters, which means we collectively scroll through a pantfull of blurbs that look like this:

Sylvester Stone released by the Rams

Stone showed some flashes of his college years over the summer but was unable to carry it into the preseason. Stone was trying to make it a Family Affair, as Los Angeles initially drafted him. Unfortunately, due to some off-the-field issues, the team couldn’t Stand to wait for Stone to get back in shape. Stone released a brief statement: “Thank You (Falletinme Be Mice Elf, Again).

Part of me wondered if anyone would even notice if I only ranked the top 10 tight ends for 2021 fantasy football. We all remember what Confuscious said, “If a fantasy football tight end ranking post falls in the forest and nobody’s there to read, then did it happen?” I believe Confuscious also told us to draft Darren Waller each of the last two seasons. Wait. No. That was Donkey Teeth. People confuse the two of us so often that sometimes I get confused myself. Identity crises aside, someone must rank the Irv Smiths and the Adam Trautmans of the world, so why not Confuscious Teeth? If you’re just looking for a plain old list of rankings without the fluff, you can stop right here and go check out my top 200 for 2021 fantasy football. Anyway, here’s my top 20 tight ends for 2021 fantasy football:

*Note: These rankings are geared toward half PPR scoring. Projections provided in this season’s rankings are NOT my own, they come from Rudy Gamble’s World-Renowned 2021 Fantasy Football Projections. These preseason projections are available free of charge, while Rudy’s in-season weekly projection subscription is currently available until August 31st at an early bird discounted price of only $17.99 for the entire season! These are the same weekly projections that won Rudy Gamble the FantasyPros designation of “Best Bold Ranker” for the years 2017-2019 (and likely 2020!).

I was recently reviewing my very first ever fantasy football draft. I often get nostalgic and find myself looking back. The first team I could find stored in a draft history option from a site was from 2009. A great squad of since retired players like Maurice Jones-Drew, Reggie Wayne, Pierre Thomas, and Tom Brady… Never mind on that last one. Congrats Mr. Brady on reaching the midpoint of your career in Tampa Bay. Looking forward to your next sixteen seasons and your Canton induction in 2041, I mean if you can get the resumé together.

Welcome to Stat-o-Matic where we will look at some advanced stats around the NFL. As a disclaimer, I am using this space to play around with some numbers and present some interesting findings. But, by no means is this validated or predictive data. I hope that it will lead to meaningful discoveries or it could inspire you to go down your own rabbit hole. We’re going to explore together, crunch some numbers and see what pops out. Stats courtesy of PlayerProfiler.com.
