Welcome to the 2018 Fantasy Football Season everyone! Especially my fellow Razzballers, shot-callers, brawlers who be dippin’ in Benz with the spoilers. Something-something-benjamins, by P.Diddy. Puff-Dids. Puffy-Dude. Whatever. Yeah, an old school reference, but I spend all day thinking about Drake thinking about Drake, so I wanted a change of pace. So there you have it. Ahem, rankings… it’s time. I mean, it could have been any time, since it’s a flat circle (alright, alright, alright), but this is the time for my rankings. And what makes my rankings so special? Well, my mom always said I was special, so there’s that. And right after the jump I’ll go over my gravitas in that regard, only because the root word of gravitas is “gravy” which we can all agree with is amazing. But before we get started, I wanted to emphasize that this amazing piece of content won’t necessarily contain specific bits of analysis on my rankings. (Feel free to ask any question in the comments section though!) Don’t worry, we’ll be spending the preseason going over that, my loves, my hates, my infatuations but they restraining order probably because I love them too much… all of them. We’ll go over how my rankings stack up against the triumvirate of Disney-owned (or soon to be owned) sport sites like ESPN, Yahoo, and CBS. We’ll even go over my tiers (I’m a sensitive soul), all before the first official snap of the NFL. What I want to accomplish with this post is to not to just release my 2018 rankings, but also to get the ball rolling on what Fantasy Football is all about. (So DEEP.) If you’re one of the above mentioned “Razzballers” or a Fantasy Football veteran (thank you for your service), you’ll probably recognize a lot of what’s to follow. But for those of you who are new visitors, the uninitiated, the initiated, and… actually I think I’m describing the League of Shadows, but whatever, think of this as a welcome guide, even moreso a “beginners guide” to the greatest (at creating ulcers) fantasy sport known throughout the human-explored galaxy. (I mean, we just don’t know what the trending fantasy sport is in Alpha Centuri, do we?)

The TL;DR is: Rankings, Beginners-Focused Content, Ur Mum. Here we go!

Throughout August, I am going to be breaking down 2018 Fantasy Football drafts by round. Not to sound like captain obvious here, but the first round is the most important round. Back when I used to read Matthew Berry religiously, he would always emphasize that you can’t win a fantasy football league in the first round, but you can definitely lose it. The injury stuff is just dumb luck, so it’s hard to kick yourself if you drafted David Johnson last year. It was the right move. In leagues where I was picked first last year, I took David Johnson and I would do it again 100 times out of 100. Anyone can get hurt at any time.

Reid wrote a piece about the back end of the first round that you will enjoy as well.

I’m going to break down the first round in four sets of tiers. I’m going to use the 12 team format. We will have the 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, and 10-12 tiers. I’m simply going to tell you about the player that I like the most in this tier and why. Some of you aren’t going to agree and that is what the comment section is for. If you have checked out my rankings, most of this won’t be a surprise to you but it is a chance to go more in depth.

With the All-Star Break now a memory, many fantasy players have turned an eye from MLB to the looming NFL season. More people than ever are getting into best ball drafts. They allow you to scratch that drafting itch with minimal cost and also strengthen your drafting savvy way more than any mock could. Let’s break down some key components to successful best ballin’.

Instead of throwing a table on Monday’s post, I think that a separate post for PPR is justifiable. I can talk about players who make a jump up in PPR for beginners and we can always discuss in the comment section. PPR is my preferred method of scoring. What can I say? I’m a sucker […]

With Training Camp about to be in full-swing, it’s a perfect opportunity to take a look at some key players that are entering their final year of a contract, looking to prove themselves to their team or multiple teams if they’re likely to hit free agency.

Contract negotiations and holdouts are as typical to fantasy owners as touchdowns and RBBC’s, so let’s take a look at some names you should keep in the back of your mind as you approach draft day.

Let’s get into it!

Somehow Donkey Teeth has a job and a girlfriend still despite spending the last 10 days at yoga training and now going away for a week to go fishing, but he has graced us with his presence to bring you the rookie wide receivers podcast. With the MLB All Star break behind us and NFL training camps starting, fantasy football is in full swing. Donkey Teeth and B_Don continue to get you ready for your dynasty drafts as the guys take a look at college tape from the wide receivers in the 2018 draft class and evaluate their NFL prospects.

It is that time of year. Football is about a month and a half away from meaning something again and that means that our fantasy football drafts are just weeks away. I’ll be moving around these rankings from time to time, but I feel pretty good about these at this point in time. Here are […]

What’s going on everyone, and welcome to the first installment of my draft rankings. During the first two months of the offseason, I have been mostly focusing on strategy articles with MB, Reid and the rest of the crew, but because we are now into July, and the first few teams have begun reporting for […]

Hey there Razzballers,

I’m back and refreshed after a grueling mock draft season and a nice offseason on the beach. But it’s time to hit the ground running and those fantasy football drafts are coming back up for everyone. In my column this week, I plan on breaking down what to do when you own the 10th pick in a 10-man league.

I know. It’s frustrating when you draw the draft order out of a hat and your name is literally the last one called. But guess what? I actually prefer to be picking last. I love it. And in fact, I think it gives you an advantage over the opposition. Let’s take a look at a hypothetical mock draft and see what you can get at picks 10 and 11:

If you drafted Jay Ajayi at the end of the first round in 2017, you probably thought that you got the steal of the draft. After week one, you were convinced. It was all down hill from there and if you were lucky, you swindled a hopeful league mate for a useful player. Ajayi was eventually traded to the Philadelphia Eagles and didn’t see double digit carries until the final three games of the season. It’s also tough to find the end zone when Legarrette Blount is the red zone back. 208 rushes and 1 touchdowns just isn’t going to cut it…

Legarrette Blount and his 40 red zone carries have left for Detroit. In fact, Ajayi didn’t see a single carry inside of the 5-yard-line in all of 2017. The Eagles ran 77% of their offense out of the shotgun and that is exactly the offense that Ajayi can be successful in. According to Warren Sharp, when the Eagles were in the lead, Ajayi averaged 8.6 yards per carry from shotgun and when trailing he averaged 4.6 yards per carry. Obviously, with more of a workload these averages are sure to regress. But, with more volume, comes more overall fantasy production.
