Don't be shellfish...Tweet about this on TwitterShare on FacebookShare on Google+Share on Reddit

As a Jets fan, I can only imagine the magic, turbulent carpet ride it’s been this year.  Start the year 1-0 with a nail-biter against the Bucs, then turn around and lose a similarly close game to the Pats.  Follow that up with what looked like maybe a statement game against the Bills only to get trounced by the Titans in week 4.  Maybe New York is just gonna have to kick back and enjoy this roller coaster ride.  Either way, Geno Smith will be the person getting you set up.  Are you buckled in?  Is the bar secure?  Ok, go!  Geno finished the night with 199 passing yards for 3 TDs, and a win to go with zero INTs.  The interceptions have been the biggest bugaboo so far with Geno as he came into the night with 8 INT but tonight he looked very comfortable in the pocket and was able to make his quick reads and get the ball out fast.  He still needs to work on his general pocket awareness but given the Falcons’ general defensive rush problems, he didn’t have to worry about that as much tonight.  If we’re talking fantasy relevance with Geno, I think we’re either talking late season or for keeper/dynasty leagues because he’s still not on my pick up radar at this point but in terms of relying on him, he’s slowly gaining my fantasy stream trust.  In other 2013 Fantasy Football news…

Roddy White – At one point, Roddy was actually the lead receiver for his team.  Then he finished with 4 for 45 and left the game due to a hamstring issue.  His issue so far has only been an ankle sprain.  I just traded Frank Gore for him in the RCL Experts League and now am 1-4.  Take that for what you will.

Jason Snelling – Had very minimal yardage at 23 but finished with a TD before really finishing with a concussion.  Insert Snelling Salts joke here.

Jeremy Kerley – Had a 5/68/1 night with Santonio Holmes out and Stephen Hill pretty much the decoy for the night.  I wasn’t buying him as a sleeper play this week.  That’s cuz I’m more of a straight fry guy, not a Kerley kind.  I hope you’re satis-fried.

Jacquizz Rodgers – Went for 42 total yards and 2 TDs.  Admittedly, he had a few impressive runs, especially his first score of the night.  But in the end, he was compared to a slower version of MJD and I have to say I agreed.

Jeff Cumberland – Had a touchdown to go with 3/79 on the night.  Usually you just scrap most of ATL’s TE points against stats for fantasy because they seem to face Graham 20 times a year but after seeing even Kellen Winslow get in on the red zone action versus them, I’m starting to think this is a viable solution to all my TE problems.

Tony Gonzalez – had 97 yards on 10 catches.  Still doesn’t look overly impressive to me in terms of movement but seriously, he looks like the Rock Biter out there.  Trudge 5 yards, turn around, catch.  Rinse, repeat.  If only the Rock Biter had big strong hands like Tony…

Bilal Powell – Had 12 carries to lead all rushers despite there being two new additions to the backfield.  Yay!  Had only 38 yards with said carries.  Boo!  So, I said I liked Bilal over the off-season before they made all these crazy RB moves but the reality is talent-wise, Bilal is 3rd string here.  Now I’m not plotting his demise by any stretch of the imagination here but if I’m a Powell owner and someone out there wants to pay RB2 prices, I won’t fight their needs.  Moving forward, I’d be worried Goodson and Ivory cut into the touches a bit too much for him to hold his current fantasy status.  BTW, the Jets employed the diamond formation tonight and I have to say to all the female fantasy owners out there who own Jets running backs, it really is your best friend.  I’m looking forward to that formation moving forward.

Julio Jones – Didn’t have a huge game but when you’re draped by the defense all night and still manage 8 for 99, you deserve an internet slap on the butt.  It’s football, we guys can do that without getting strange looks right?  Right?!?

Matt Ryan – I almost forgot Matt played in this game.  What a weird thing to forget.  It’s almost like his 319 for 2 TDs and zero interceptions was boring or something.  Maybe it would be more exciting if he didn’t have to throw check down passes to Snelling 1 yard away from the line of scrimmage because the offensive line is more loose than Subway Jared’s former big boy pants.  As a Ryan owner, I’m moving him not because of lack of talent but he has zero pocket time to do anything and that’ll eventually be a problem.

Levine Toilolo – Despite the strong effort by T-Gonz, it was Levine who got the TD.  All you Gonzo owners go Toilolo’ed.  Yup, it’s stuck in your head now.  Don’t fight it, just enjoy.

Just got Steve Smith and Vincent Jackson as part of a package trade. I’m pretty well off at WR, so both of these guys are just bench depth. Would you drop either for a speculative add of Percy Harvin?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

You traded for someone you’re going to drop? That’s kinda strange…they clearly have trade value, why not look into moving one so you don’t just give them to someone else?

      • Jordan73 says:
        (link)

@Sky: They were throw-ins to make the trade a 3-for-3 swap. Was trading for Lynch, and just took these two back as roster fillers. I can certainly look into trading them, but they don’t have a whole lot of value right now.

        • Sky

          Sky says:

Those are pretty big names to just drop. That’s all I’m saying. Unless we’re talking 8 team league.

          • Jordan73 says:
            (link)

@Sky: 10 team, but I’m not planning on just dropping them, was just wondering if Harvin would actually be a better option RoS. Steve Smith still has some value, but I was really more concerned with Vincent Jackson considering the QB situation in Tampa.

He might be but I’d want a lot of confirmation on his status before I pick him up. Might not get going right after coming off IR.

Well, depends how good or bad you thought Josh Freeman was. He performed fine with him, think he’s a good enough player to overcome that. Not a huge Steve Smith fan myself so he’d be my ‘drop’ if I had to make one.

    Hey Sky,

Drop Chris Givens for Hilton? I am not sick of Givens but i really think Bradford is the problem there. The guy is nowhere near a franchise QB and is clearly hesitant to throw the deep ball.

I’m new to fantasy football so maybe I’m missing something but can someone explain why julio didn’t get any yardage for scooping up white’s fumble and running 20 or 30 yards?

@Allan: my guess is because it wasn’t rushing or receiving.

    • Sky

      Sky says:

I ranked them right next to each other this off-season so I see them as interchangeable. Colston has just been the steadier of the two. I’d keep Danny for upside if I needed it for my WRs, Colston for floor.

Trade my Leveon Bell for Julius Thomas in PPR? I have Jared Cook and waiver on Garret Graham just based off his schedule. Would leave me with MJD/Miller/Stacy/Richardson as my backs for start 2RB & 2Flex.

I’m leaning no right now since I think Graham will provide enough at TE.

    • Sky

@Sky: Thanks. The way waivers are set in my league is reset every Tues based on last to best team. Saving it usually has little value. Would you take Graham or keep Cook?

I got offered V.Davis for my Blackmon – would you take that? I have G.Olsen as TE who is in walking boot today. We start 3 WR’s and my normal starters are Fitz/Cobb/T.Smith and bench has Blackmon/Givens/Woods and Harvin on DL. He also has Witten on his team so I’m sure he’s looking to only have 1 TE on his team.

Other options for other team: he has Foster/Gore/CJ at RB and Colston/Wayne/Jennings starting at WR. Would you counter with TRich/Blackmon for Foster/V.Davis or is that not a decent offer? My other RBs are McCoy/Lacy/DRich/McGahee.

    QB: Ryan, Cutler, Palmer

Yo, Sky! Long time no speak…? I’m helping a friend (Joey) and the research brought up something interesting. He’s dropping Daniels, and needs a TE off the waiver wire. Available guys are Graham (Daniels replacement), Pettigrew, Miller, Cumberland, Eifert, Dickson, Walker, Celek. I know projection-wise, Pettigrew gets the nod, but I found it interesting how bad GB and TB were against the TE. Additionally, GB naturally creates a game environment with a lot of pass attempts, and Matthews is out, which may cause more coverage confusion on the short TE pass for GB. Celek seems like the safer pick of the two, but his connection with Foles last season was “Eh.” I’d be curious about your thoughts. Thanks!

    Amazing math.

I have a team that went from 2-2 to 1-3-1 after last night’s game.

My Week 4 game was a win and somehow got changed to a loss a full week after the fact!

This change is okay, though. This is a salary cap dynasty league and I knew this year would be bad. League in its 11th year but it is year 1 for me. Last week I traded Murray for Chick Michael and four draft picks. I now have two 1s, two 2s and two 3s in the 2014 draft.

@Sky: Yeah, it was a stat correction that took at least 5 days to be processed. It is a MFL league.

One time, in a Yahoo league, a guy missed the playoffs by 1 game. This being a keeper league (half our rosters) he dumped a couple usable players and added some prospects for the following season. A couple days later, on a Friday, a stat change gave him a win and he was suddenly in a playoff game with a few of his best players now on the waiver wire.

I’m in a 10 team PPR league where we have 2 RB spots and a Flex. My RB’s are Charles, Forte, Murray, and Le’Veon Bell. I was approach about trading Murray or Bell for TE help (either Cameron or Gates). So I have a few questions…

    1. Do you like Murray or Bell ROS in a PPR?
    2. Gates or Cameron ROS in a PPR? (I’m guessing you’ll say Cameron, but do you worry about Weeden?)

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

      1) I like Murray more, yes

      2) Cameron; my only worry concerning Weeden is that he doesn’t involve everyone and Cam might have a few black hole weeks because Gordon goes off. But Rivers also spreads the ball so that’s a moot point.

  30. Jiggy Nits says:
    (link)

My Knowshon & T-Rich for McCoy & Bryce Brown? He needs a #2 RB.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Hrm, I like McCoy ROS more than both of those guys but you’re basically making a 2-1 trade…don’t know if I’d do that.

      • Jiggy Nits says:
        (link)

@Sky: my other RBS are demarco murray, gio bernard, bernard pierce, deangelo williams & zac stacy. my bench is bursting- never know who to start. dont you think the 2 for 1 would be worth it?

        • Mark says:
          (link)

@Jiggy Nits: Sky may disagree but I’m all for consolidating talent by trading 2 for 1 if you have good depth or play in a shallow league. With your trade scenario it just kinda matters how much you value TRich.

  31. Mark says:
    (link)

Which RB to drop for a Vick replacement? Bolden, Stacy, Ellington? Have TRich, GOB, and Lacy already so looking to keep upside more than floor.

    • Sky

      Sky says:

Don’t think Bolden is the upside play there even though I like him. He’s the drop…

    Garcon or Gordon RoS?

What’s up JB, , appreciate your advice. 12 team .5ppr 15 week season NO playoffs

    QB- PManning, Wilson
RB- Martin, Richardson, Ridley, quizz Rodgers, bolden
WR- Dez, DThomas, Mike Wallace, Alshon Jefferey, Kendall wright, randle, K.Allen
    TE- martellus Bennett

Have a firm offer of megatron for my TRich, Wallace, Jeffrey. Is that too much to give up? It would give me the top-3 WRs too. To rephrase, does it improve my team even if I technically lose the trade on paper. If not who would you counter with?

    Thx

    • Cram It says:
      (link)

@Timmy riggins: That’s too much, more than anything because you’ll have no real 2nd RB. The hole you’ll have at RB is not worth Megatron when you already have an excellent WR core.

My team is full in RBs (Doug Martin, Ray Rice, Giovanni, Pierce, Helu, Stewart).

My WR could use a flex WR for sure (Demaryius, Garcon, Hopkins, Miles, Helu, Floyd).

            2 RB, 2WR, 1 Flex (RB/WR). Non PPR

    • Sky

You shouldn’t speak ill of the dead like that. Bolden

      • frankgrimes says:

@Sky: with a Gronk return you think that makes bolden less attractive?
I like that Ellington cat as well but seem like he wouldn’t get any more/less touches than bolden.

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

Blount fumbled last week and if Ridley’s not a healthy go this week, Bolden could be in for a nice amount of PT. Plus the offense is just better and Bolden was the goal to go back or at least has been.

Vincent Brown, Keenen Allen, or Austin Pettis?

Foles a good add for the short term, but does Henne have any value now that he may start for Gabbert for a little while? Freeman available, but probably just keeping an eye on him for a week or two while he settles in to Min’s game plan, as is Palmer, Wheeden, and Fitzpatrick. 2Qb league and options are THIN, where I have Eli and Pryor.

    Dropping Broyles and Daniel Thomas.

    • Sky

          (link)

J-Stew is a PPR play; don’t know if he’s that great of a pickup overall. I already said to pick up Foles the first time…

            (link)

@Sky: Oh I know, I was just repeating it (no idea why, ha) and saying maybe Stew over Brown. Probably neither Brown or Stew starts for me, except on Bye, but if one of them starts to break out, yippee!

  45. Ryan says:
    (link)

Alright so a person in my league is 1-4 and REALLY wants Vick(probably why they are 1-4). I was going to offer a trade for Dez Bryant. I was going to offer: Vick, Vincent Jackson and S. Ridley. Originally I was going to ask for JUST Dez Bryant, but I think they would give more. So I’m thinking of asking for Bryant, Eli Manning and G. Graham(TE from Houston). Am I asking for too much?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

You’re probably not going to get all of that and Dez

      • Ryan says:
        (link)

@Sky: Thought so, I know that they are ok with Dez for my three, just figured that I would see if I could get the extra guys too because they already have Brady as their QB and Cameron as their TE. So essentially these two extra guys are going to be dropped most likely anyways(maybe I should have included that in the original post). Thanks though!

        • Sky

          Sky says:

            (link)

@Sky: Gotcha. One last question(sorry haha). Just got offered Roddy White for T.Y. Hilton(I would be getting White). Take it? I have D. Thomas and V. Jackson right now as my other 2 receivers.

            • Sky

              Sky says:
              (link)

With Julio out for the year, this could go one of two ways. Either Roddy goes off and is a healthy go. Or, worst case, Atlanta packs up their bags and gives up on 2013 and rests him. I’m inclined to believe in Roddy ROS so I’d take that deal. Just realize those are your scenarios.

  46. RAGS says:
    (link)

Standard scoring, deep league. Would you offer Steve Smith and Darren Sproles for Arian Foster? My other WRs are Garcon, Vincent Brown, Greg Jennings, Nate Washington (probably dropping), and Harvin stashed. But T. Williams, H. Douglas, K. Allen and R. Randle are all on the wire.

Is Garcon and Sproles too much to offer in my position?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

First one you can try. Garcon/Sproles ruins your depth way too much.

      • RAGS says:
        (link)

@Sky: Yeah, thanks. Guy just lost Julio and is a New Orleans homer, so he might take the deal.

  47. Mike says:

I was offered A. Johnson & Witten for Gronk(dude has Brady). Been going back and forth on it. Here’s the rest of my squad. PPR league.

        Thanks

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

Not really. If they’re all out there and that’s your issue, you need to not worry about ROS. You should be looking at weekly matchups and play them accordingly. Doesn’t sound like you are competing with league mates for their services at this time.

          • Sandy says:
            (link)

@Sky: have to set some waiver priority though for this week… I’ll set in your order and prob be fine. Do you think hill and brown are ready to go this week? Or just take Terrence against the skins?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Congrats! Ehhhh, Brees has way too much good history to sit him in my book. I wouldn’t go that far.

  51. Scott says:
    (link)

So the owner of Ridley is selling him for dirt cheap and request for only my McGahee.

Only thing is I feel that Ridley is toast considering that his role last year was an attribute of good health and being the only power RB on the team, with Vereen being the versatile role and Bolden being hurt.

Now that they have Blount in the role as also a power RB, I’m thinking of avoiding the Belicheck carousel entirely. Sure Blount has his fumble issues as did Ridley. But I feel as though they play the same exact type of role, and being injured doesn’t help the case.

I’m I over thinking this for McGahee? 1-4 Owners are getting crazy desperate in my league, but I feel that I could get much better for McGahee than an injured RB that will have no impact on my team at the moment.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

I’d like to know more about Ridley’s health before I make a move. I wasn’t a big Ridley guy coming into the year so I don’t have a huge target to get in on that. Think he’s closer to a low end RB2 moving forward which is close enough to McGahee’s value that I’d rather just hold without more info.

      • Scott says:
        (link)

        @Sky:

Turns our Ridley’s injury isn’t too serious and minor. However, without health being an issue I feel the biggest issue is Mr. Belicheck and the 4 man pool of RB, 3 of which fill the exact same power RB role. Obviously, Ridley is talent wise better than McGahee, but without the reps and touches I’m afraid he’ll have less worth?

I do have the depth too take a chance on this. Maybe ask Andre Brown as an added picture and throw him in my IR slot?

        What do you think?

        • Sky

          Sky says:

I could really use RB help and have a more than solid receiving corps: Megatron, Cobb, Stevie Johnson, Hilton and Hartline for 3 starting spots max. Who would you shop of those 5 (sell high?) and could you recommend some RBs who might be had (buy low?)?

    Thanks!

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Eh, that’s a pretty broad topic there. You don’t have any sell highs unless someone’s willing to buy Hilton as a WR1 which is really unlikely. You have to give to get and though your WRs are good, I wouldn’t say getting rid of a name that would net you something worthwhile – Megatron/Cobb – helps you because then you have a WR problem. You have 2 high end WRs and WR3 types. I wouldn’t be shopping unless someone’s willing to overpay for guys that aren’t Megatron/Cobb.

      • Jon says:
        (link)

@Sky: Thanks, that makes sense. I’ll try shopping the back-end guys and see what happens.

There’s a starting RB on waivers? Pick up McGahee. Snelling I want to know more about his concussion before I drop him but I do still like Ivory. He’d require an injury to become really relevant, though…

Ehhh, they’re kickers. Don’t overthink them. Just play the kicker w/the team that looks like they’ll win/score the most points.

  56. the imp says:

What do you think about picking up GGraham (HOU TE) now that Daniels is going to be hurt for a few weeks? I’d have to drop Fleener (probably the most dropable uninjured TE in our PPR league) to get him. I’m sure you saw the Seahawks-Colts and would be curious about your take on Fleener’s “upsideness” in the midst of another clunker from him.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

It’s reasonable. Low upside offense by comparison but he’s been targeted well to date, especially in the red zone. Probably a higher floor play if that’s a need. Go for it.

      • the imp says:
        (link)

@Sky: There you go. I think you nailed it on the head. I went 3-0 with 3 pts total at TE and then lost last week by 6 with Fleener’s 3 pt outing. I guess that means I need floor more than ceiling right now…
Hopefully, I can trade depth (Nicks is my bench WR/ RG3 or Vick) for a better TE at some point in the season…but that hasn’t worked so far.

          • the imp says:
            (link)

@Sky: More likely than not (as usual once I feel I’ve made a decision) it will be a moot point as the Daniels owner and Clay owner both will pick ahead of me on the wire. Means Fleener will get scooped…hate that thought when I’m making a drop….but I digress.
Hope the wire treats you well tonight.

                Gonzalez….VDavis…Olsen…Finley/Bennett………………Miller

I could trade Nicks (starting Cobb/Amendola/Gordon) to upgrade on Fleener. How far down the totem pole would you go?

The Gonzalez/Olsen owner, in particular, is WR needy (starts TAustin and Hopkins) and will be flush with two TEs past their bye. I’d work the wire for WR where about 50 WRs owned when Amendola gets hurt again….

I figure offering later lets me see my TE one more week and use Nicks if Amendola misses practice W or Th (Nicks plays Th). Offering now would probably make the trade more enticing to the other owner.

non PPR espn standard league. should I
    1. drop d-rich for stacy (also have MJD/Peterson/Wilson/woodhead/bolden, so this move is for bench spot. d-rich was started at most twice, hopefully never again)?
    2. already have waiver out for dropping m.williams for k.allen, but i’m 8 out of 14 so likely won’t get him. if I don’t should I keep Cook at TE (he has to start) or drop M.Williams for one of rudolph/d.walker/reed? With these terrible TE options at TE I know the most I can do is bench Cook until STL attempts to get him the ball. I’m from STL so this is esp gross having givens/cook/d-rich/bradford all on the same team in this league.

damn espn is less socialist with their waivers and don’t readjust them each week based on standings/overall pts like most leagues do, and this is esp bad for me since this team sucks.

I don’t know if Sky would say both Ball and RG3 is too much for Sproles. You def do need to upgrade RB though and move RG3 to somebody.

@Sky: I really thought Wilson and Miller would break out and SJax would break down. I more upset as my “no RB” theory team was off to great start but now Megatron hurt Jones out for year Cruz struggling…you really do need a Stud RB anchor but they are few left nowadays. I’d still rank Martin prolly like five or sixth pretty much where I had him at start of season.

            Sky says:

Actually don’t think your stud WR stance was too bad. Though I’d probably pick 2 and then go fishing for the Keenan Allen’s of the world later to fill WR3. Either way, it’s a viable idea, don’t give up on it.

Miller and Wilson have been fine, their teams are morons. Though SJax had missed 1 game in 3 years…this year is just ridiculous.

But thats the key is you dont wait til later its an all in. Its not a dip your toe with only two WR then freak cuz 20+ RBs are gone. I believe I had like fifth pick overall. First four picks were WR cuz of flex my RBs are Moreno DeAngleo Mathews(barf) and waiver scrubs like Stacy and Snelling. I grabbed Sea earlier than usual, Stafford at QB and I have Julius at TE.
I’m definitely trying it again next year.

Well, philosophically, it really depends who’s available. Was simply saying Julio and Megatron looked pretty good. Getting that ringer later like Josh Gordon or someone of that ilk was still possible. Pierre Garcon has been that top 15 WR that went outside of that ranking. Just saying that there’s nothing wrong with letting the 3rd one dangle a bit but I hear you.
