Don't be shellfish...Tweet about this on TwitterShare on FacebookShare on Google+Share on Reddit

So unless you’ve been dead and have recently been resurrected and for some reason felt the first thing you should do was come to our website, you’d have a good idea on how I feel about these two quarterbacks.  Oh and thanks for the support!  We are big fans of the Zombie community.  You all have put out some really quality movies.  All that said, I’ve been a strong proponent of Robert Griffin, III and a huge worry wart about Andrew Luck for 2012 fantasy football.  My reasoning is fairly simple: RGIII will add value with his legs as he’s not a pure pocket passer.  Meanwhile, there’s not going to be much of a pocket for Luck to pass from this year in my mind.  He’s coming from the same team that broke Peyton Manning for a season.  Now granted, the Redskins O-line isn’t the greatest either but RGIII should be athletic enough to make his bad situation palatable.  I don’t know if I can say the same for Luck.  But with that all said, the draft will always decide which guy is the best one to draft based on value and currently, the best value between the two has to be Luck.

Draft day is all about getting your good guys as cheap as possible.  Well that and cracking open a few tasty adult beverages but mostly it’s about finding guys who are underrated and avoid the guys who are being hyped over what they should be.  Currently in a yahoo draft, I’d have to draft RGIII late at about 82nd off the board and he’s averaging a late 8th round pickup.  Don’t ask how the math works, I’m looking at yahoo right now scratching my head at that too but I’m not going to argue with them seeing as they’re, well, a website.  Whatever, the point is he’s going at or near an established quarterback in Matt Ryan whom I have been smitten with as I’m sure most of our reading community is sick of hearing by now.  Matt is going just a couple of spots ahead of him at 79.4.  Now this is not to say he isn’t worth the pick but value is about assessing risk versus reward.  You have an established quarterback in Ryan who still has room for upside going up against a rookie quarterback.  In viewing it that way, which one holds the best value in your mind?  Exactly.  So like that creepy boy fogging up the window peering in on his pretty neighbor (not that I have any experience with that), it looks like my RGIII love will have to be enjoyed from afar.  Instead, Luck and his 115.9 ADP in over at yahoo has become the attractive rookie play in my mind.  Important note to note: I’m not saying I will be drafting one or the other this season automatically.  This is simply an act of reviewing where the value lies between the two.  In fact, I only reviewed two rookie QBs and there are plenty of others to choose from.  So what say you?  If you’re drafting  – or have drafted – a rookie quarterback this season, who would it be?  Razzball Nation needs to know!

Well it’s not going to be Russell Wilson and the reason is mostly Matt Flynn, among all of the other Seahawk based reasons. Wilson is going to have an insanely short leash. His WRs are poor. That o-line is still not awesome. Everyone needs to stop taking crazy pills and think about what’s really possible in that offense.

RG3 is probably the best bet to be good this year, but people need to calm down there, too. He’s a whole lot closer to Josh Freeman than he is to Cam Newton. Taking RG3 over Ryan or even Roethlisberger is probably a little dumb, but like you say, I see a lot of people doing it.

I can see Luck outperforming guys like Bradford and moving into the Andy Dalton-Alex Smith territory, but he’s got o-line issues, too.

Hedge, hedge, hedge, hedge…haha. I hear ya. I loved RGIII this off-season but his going price is dipping into territories I wouldn’t go. Totally agree with you about Wilson. He’s a nice late round flier at this point but people really get caught up in pre-season hype. I did and still do think he has potential but he has a lot stacked up against him coming into this year. You have Luck probably about where I have him in my rankings.

Hello my man. I have a few questions/seeking advice about my team in a 10 man 1/2 pt ppr (3 keepers) league.

Start 1qb/2rb/3wr/1k/1te/1def and no flex. Only allowed 2qbs, 9 wr/rbs, and 5 between k/te/def. total of 16 players.

I got screwed by a qb run and ended up with this team:
    QB:Big ben/RG III
    RB: Demarco Murray/Ahmad Bradshaw/Shonn Greene/Mark Ingram
    WR: Julio Jones/Vic Cruz/Jeremy Maclin/A Boldin/Michael Floyd
    TE: A Hernandez/K Rudolph
    K: Jason Hanson
    DEF: Ravens/Seahawks
I’ve had two trade offers, one is my vic cruz and big ben/rg3 for his vick and justin blackmon. The other is their mike Wallace and matt ryan for my julio jones and big ben or rg3. im just thinking of staying put because i don’t want to lose cruz or julio for their awesome keeper value…. so torn… thanks

honestly just thinking of staying put…also waiver wire choices are quite intriguing thinking of dropping mike floyd for one of these: RB: jacquizz rodgers, kendall hunter, ronnie brown, ronnie hillman, isaiah pead, and jonathan dwyer. wr: greg little, denarious moore, randall cobb, sidney rice, laurent robinson, kendall wright, mike williams.

sorry for long post. thanks again :)

Yeah, looks like you were probably hitting the WRs while everyone else was taking their QBs but since you only start 1, at least you have a decent floor with Ben and a high ceiling with RGIII. Might have issues if Ahmad’s foot doesn’t hold up. With the rules you have, you built a nice team that should be competitive this year while you had one eye on the future (Rudolph could be this year’s out of nowhere TE stud).

Don’t like the first trade at all for you. The second one I wouldn’t mind as long as it’s Big Ben involved but in a keeper league I could see avoiding it as well. I’d probably do it just to shore up QB but I’d see if they wanted Cruz instead. Again, that’s just me, keepers make for interesting trade moves.

I like J. Rodgers then Kendall Hunter. I’d drop Floyd for one of them. Think Rodgers has the first chance to make an impact but keep your eyes on Hunter and the health of Gore.

      • Jesse says:
        (link)

@Sky, Yeah, i inherited the last place team and got to pick first overall every round my team sucked so i kept julio, maclin, and shon greene as my keepers. i traded my first overall pick for demarco murray. Was trying to build for future and also be competitive this year. I figured since the league starts three receivers, I would try to maximize my advantage there since most of the good rbs and qbs were already kept. I think i’ll look at hunter because hunter matches up with my team already and i like the idea of him contributing in a sproles-ish way. I can see frank gore and jacobs being injured plus james is tiny and a rookie. Not a bad idea. Thanks. I also like jacquizz because it is ppr, hmm. I am an ND homer that’s why i drafted rudolph and floyd. I’ve seen games of them in person a ton and know what they can do. It’s just unfortunate that floyd and fitz don’t have a better qb to feed them.

Ah, gotcha. RE: Floyd, WRs can have a short or long learning curve and when you have Skelton or Kolb throwing it your way, you’re kinda already set up for failure. ATL is a pass-heavy offense this year and Rodgers should get his touches. I like to think of him as a poor-poor man’s Sproles.

        • Jesse says:
          (link)

@Jesse, Also i countered both with maclin but they don’t want him and i am not sure if Matt Ryan team would do anything for cruz. He also has torrie smith and greg jennings starting at wr along with wallace. Also, would you take saints kicker over lions kicker? hartley is available on wire…

Gotcha Re: Cruz. Yeah, Maclin wouldn’t get a trade like that done but if you’re going to make a trade, Julio or Cruz would be your piece to get it done. Might just want to gut it out for a while and see what you can get from Big Ben and RGIII.

RE:K. Both in a dome on strong offenses. Hanson has the longer history of being successful so I might hold.

Not too thrilled about the clavicle issues – it is one that could linger and cause issues down the road – but you’d be getting the better player. If you don’t need Maclin, it’s a fair trade with a lot of risk invovlved.

Standard scoring 10 team league. Qb, Wr, Wr, Wr, Rb, Rb, Te, W/R/T, K, Def, 7 on bench.
    I had 2nd pick & I drafted like this: A. Foster, J. Jones, S. Jackson, F. Jackson, E. Manning, S. Johnson, D. Brown, BJGE, T. Young, P. Garcon, B. Tate, K. Britt, B. Pettigrew, J. Hanson, Seattle, I. Redman, M. Leshoure.

My problem is having players from the same team > T. Young, Pettigrew, and J. Hanson(k)
I have the same problem with S. Johnson and F. Jackson.

I was thinking starting with dropping Hanson and picking up another kicker on waivers.> Yes/No? Hartley from the Saints?

What do you do when you have this issue? The way it is now, I’ll always start two from the same team. Unless Britt pans out.
Thanks in advance for your advise.

I only worry about the quality of my players, not the team they play for. You drafted a solid team. You could switch kickers, that’s fine. But draft good players and let touches/injuries decide who goes or stays, not having a conflict of interest.

PS, since I see you made the same comment on the Jets post, I’m going to remove that one, ok?

If you have time would you please be able to comment on my team for this season. 10 team league (Defending Champ) 1QB,2WR,2RB,1TE,1FLEX,K,DEF total of 8 players and 1 defense.

    QB-Michael Vick
    RB-LeSean McCoy/Marshawn Lynch
    WR-Greg Jennings/Mike Wallace
    TE-Vernon Davis
    K-Mason Crosby
    Def-Seattle

    Bench/Flex-Antonio Brown/Robert Meachem/Roy Helu/Michael Bush

Strong looking team. Minor quibble is grabbing a second defense. Prefer to have my bench be RB/WR heavy in a 10 team league. Other than that, your team should be competitive this year. Cutler is a quality backup to Vick and Michael Bush is going to surprise people with his draft price, I think. Nice work.

  7. robert says:

I am in a 2 QB league(friends league, not my idea) and I did not anticipate the QBs being gone by the end of rnd 2. I ended up with RGIII, Palmer, and Ponder. I felt disgusted after the draft. The rest of my team, RB:McCoy, Murray,
    WR:Jennings, Colston, Brown
    TE:Davis
    Flex:D. Martin
    Bench:Redman,Helu,T.Young,K.Wright

After missing out on the best QBs, is there hope for my team?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Well, you have a solid 1-2-3 punch at RB with McCoy/Murray/Martin. That said Redman, probably isn’t going to help you out and Shannahan is just evil, even though I do like Helu. Outside of your QBs, your starting lineup looks solid but the bench could use a bit of work. Any worthy RBs on the waiver wire? I don’t see K. Wright being fantasy relevant this year. Your QB situation might make you a genius or a pauper this year. I don’t mind Palmer in a 2QB league. RGIII is being priced like an QB1 currently. If he lives up to the billing, you’ll be fine. Don’t mind Ponder on my bench.

      • robert says:
        (link)

@Sky, On the wire: Jacquizz Rodgers, David Wilson, Kendall Hunter, T. Gerhart, Jahvid Best. Any of those worthy of a pick up?

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

Wow, minus Jahvid, they’re all good pickups. Gerhart will return value early, Jacquizz Rodgers should be a solid PPR play this year (not sure if your league is that) and David Wilson/Kendall Hunter are talented enough to provide value even while/if they’re not starting. If I had to choose, I’d take Gerhart, hope for a monster first game of the season and watch the AP owner squeal. Then kindly offer Gerhart to him for some value. I’d drop Wright for him. Amazing your league doesn’t already own guys like that.

    Sky,

I drafted for my first money league 10 team (yahoo standard scoring with passing td’s=6pts) the other nite…and I’d like your thoughts as to who to start for flex and RB’s:

    QB: Cam
    RB: R. Rice
    RB: M. Turner
    WR: Julio Jones
    WR: Colston
    TE: Coby Fleener
    Flex: Antonio Brown
    K: Henery
    DEF: Patriots

    BN: P. Hillis
    BN: Spiller
    BN: P. Garçon
    BN: Little
    BN: M. Ingram

I had the 1st pick (first time ever!). Obviously I punted TE this draft as I felt the depth there was almost as good as WR’s…I was targeting Greg Olsen for my TE sleeper pick since he’s not gonna split time this year, but the guy before me picked him up.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

That’s a healthy looking team, minus the TE but that’s alright: TE is pretty deep this year. If Fleener doesn’t pan out, there are plenty of sleeper picks to choose from. I’d just keep my eyes peeled during the first week on TE targets.

Though I like your team, if your league has 6 point passing touchdowns, I’d probably prefer to have not taken Cam in the second. Of the top 5, he’s the guy who didn’t toss many touchdowns. Probably would’ve preferred to wait but it didn’t really hurt your team. All and all, I like it. Should be competitive.

      • The G says:
        (link)

        @Sky,

For what it’s worth, I took Cam with my third rd pick (Julio was my 2nd rounder)…and I’m keeping my eyes on Jared Cook from the Titans. Regarding Cam, I agree, I could’ve waited and gotten a Ryan or Rivers type, but I feel that Cam will sit in the pocket and throw more TD’s this year. We’ll see…

In terms of starters for Week One, do u keep the lineup I have or sub one of bench players in? Thanks!

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

Ah wow. Surprised he escaped the 2nd round.

I always want an RB in my flex. I’d go Hillis

  10. Wilson says:

I have Foster and Jennings while another team has MJD and Tate. He has logically offered Tate for Jennings.
I am actually considering not taking the deal. I should just be smart and take it right?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

When MJD comes back, I’d be surprised If Jennings held his value. Guess it depends on if you believe MJD will be back soon. Tate should have a quality role in the offense all year. For me I’d take the less risk and nab Tate

    Hey sky,

I’m in a 2 qb league with my qb’s being romo, schaub, freeman, and russel wilson (I took too many qb’s, I know). Just wanted to know who to start week 1 if it’s not too early to ask. Obviously I’ll start romo but my 2nd qb I should go with schaub or go for some upside with wilson? (don’t think freeman’s good but you can say him too if you think he’s a good start)

    Thanks!

    • Sky

        @Sky,

Thanks haha my rb’s are pretty good I’ve got mccoy, reggie bush, doug martin, kevin smith. At WR I’ve got julio, jennings, steve smith-carolina with titus young and denarius moore on the bench (it’s a 10 team .5 PPR league). Let me know what you think of the team (qb brings my team down I think)

I want to do a trade like you said but don’t know what to try to get maybe a TE (I have pettigrew and greg olsen) or a more solid rb2 I don’t know.

Dang, that’s a nice backfield and a nice starting set at WR. Yeah, if you could get a TE upgrade with someone who really needs a QB, that would be nice. Normally wouldn’t want two TE but it’s not like it hurt your depth anywhere. Maybe a two for one special and move Pettigrew in the deal to them for a higher end TE.

          • Abie T says:

@stoopid, probably Jeffery. Its hard to say that as a Bears fan living in Chicago, but he won’t be starting and while he has all sorts of talent he’s still 3rd or 4th on the depth chart. Lance Moore would be my second choice FWIW.

The sexy fantasy rookie QB’s are RG3 and Wilson. Fantasy circles are always in love with “double threat” QB’s, yet the top fantasy QB’s year in and year out are pocket passers. Luck is supposed to be the best QB talent in years and he’s severely underrated because people think he cant run despite his speed (4.59 40 yd dash). He has a better arm than the other QB’s, is more accurate and has equally (if not better) as good of weapons.

I think the rookie QB you want is Luck.

Nelson is David or Jordy? I’m not a big Demaryius fan but if you believe in him, he’s your WR2 or 3 depending on how that Nelson question is answered so it’s reasonable. Overall, your team looks great for a 10 team and that many roster spots. Hard to believe you got Graham/Stafford/Rice all on one team. Usually guys that are gone in the first 2 rounds. Can’t really fault your team, even though I’ve lost my love for Redman during the preseason. Really nice work!

Alright, so I’m seeking a little trade advice.

First, I’ll lay out my roster, 10 team league, pretty standard scoring (4 pt passing TDs though)

    QB: Vick
    RB: McFadden, Forte
WR: Marshall, Andre Johnson, Miles Austin
    TE: Pettigrew
Bench: Rivers, Doug Martin, BJGE, Crabtree, Sidney Rice, Olsen

Okay, so, there are two possible trade scenarios. First is I trade Martin for Lloyd, and then I would drop Crabtree or Rice for Ryan Williams who is a FA. The second is Rivers for Lloyd, then again I would drop Crabtree or Rice for either Carson Palmer or Russell Wilson.

Do you like both trades for me, or which do you like. And if you like both, do you like one more than the other?

    Thanks
